If you could choose just one boys name as your all time favourite- what would it be?

We are really stuck on a name for DS2. We already have DS1 who is Joseph, we loved this name from day one and never ever had any doubts throughout the pregnancy and when he was born it just 'fit' and suited him perfectly. I think I love his name so much that thinking of another I like as much is impossible!

Currently names we like but don't LOVE are:
Thomas
Henry
Oliver

All fairly traditional and popular names but my question is if you could pick just ONE boys name, unusual, popular or traditional, what would it be??

This is a difficult question. What would have been my favourite 5 years ago isn't the same as today.

If you were to press me, today I would say Frederick. For me, traditional is always the way to go.

BTW I have a Joseph and a Henry. I think they go nicely together :)

I adore my 2 boys names - Joshua and Daniel - loved them before they were born and still love them now.

James

Freddie. DS1 is Freddie and he was always going to have that name. DS2 was a million times harder to name.

SootySweepandSue · 10/11/2011 10:04

Miller. Love it as a first name!

DS is Oliver which I love despite it's popularity! Also love Frederick (Freddie), William and Benjamin and also warming to (in a big way!) Henry, Sebastian and George!

Am almost 12 weeks pregnant with DC2 and almost hoping not a boy just because it's going to be so hard to choose between the above!

I think all of the above go well with Joseph in addition to Alexander and Nicholas!

Laurie which is my ds's name

But I also love Theo and Rufus which I couldn't get past DH...

I like Henry the best from your list

This is weird.
James is what I'd have called DS (I'm sticking with 2 DDs)
He have been James Thomas, Tom being my grandfather. Who I always remember this week. He was partially paralysed by a snipers bullet on the Somme, he'd lied and joined up at 16.
Anyhow, James and Thomas are my vote.

Isaac goes well with Joseph.

Out of your list I think Thomas. I know an joe and Thomas and it's a good match.

nancerama · 10/11/2011 10:52

Barnaby. DH vetoed it though :(

mopsyflopsy · 10/11/2011 10:57

Quentin (DS's name) - we still love it six years later Smile.

Tom - short, cute for a little boy, and manly for a man.
Not Thomas, mind - TOM.

And we have a Joe, not Joseph - do you see a theme there Wink.

Sebastian.

Wasn't allowed it for either ds though Sad. We had same problem for ds2. Ds1 was easy, we chose it early on in the pregnancy and were really happy with it. Ds2 we had a name, weren't 100% sure and waited til he was born, and even then took an hour or so to really decide. I love it now though Grin, except that he's destined to get it spelt wrong his whole life (whether or not to put double 'l' and double 't', most people have got it different to what we settled on, but hey ho)

PootlePosyPumpkin · 10/11/2011 11:14

Jack. It was my grandfather's name and it was always going to be my future DS's name - way before it became mega popular again. I finally got to use it for DS1 14 years ago & still love the name as much now as I've always done.

I also found naming DS2 much harder for the same reasons as you but went with Tom - which does really suit him. If DD had been another DS though I truly don't know what we would have called him!
