If you could choose just one boys name as your all time favourite- what would it be?

We are really stuck on a name for DS2. We already have DS1 who is Joseph, we loved this name from day one and never ever had any doubts throughout the pregnancy and when he was born it just 'fit' and suited him perfectly. I think I love his name so much that thinking of another I like as much is impossible!

Currently names we like but don't LOVE are:
Thomas
Henry
Oliver

All fairly traditional and popular names but my question is if you could pick just ONE boys name, unusual, popular or traditional, what would it be??

Too many Thomas's and Olivers around. Henry good but Edward better - traditional without being over grand and not over used and diminutives - Ned, Teddy, Ed are all good and manly!

I have a Caelan James, a nod to his scottish heritage.
But Henry is my favourite, I love the book 'A Star called Henry'

purpleloosestrife · 11/11/2011 21:56

bennedict and fabian are lovely names

Happygochuckie · 11/11/2011 21:56

James is and always will be one of the greatest male names. It sounds sophisticated and masculine on its own, soft and youthful as Jamie, trendy and fresh as Jay, cute and quirky as Jimmy and simply classic as Jim.

I adore names with great meanings. I relative of mine recently married a Nigerian and I am inspired by great African names (Tafari - "he who inspires awe", Kayode - "He brought Joy", "Enitan - man of story", Kayin -Celebrated child", "Tendaji - "he who makes things happen"), are some names I think are amazing for a guy to have......But, alas, I'm not African nor have ever been there so probably will never pull any of them off or have the guts to uase them!

Otherwise,
Solomon (peace),
Marcus (Dedicated to Mars (!!!) )
Nicholas (people's victory)
Christopher
Nathan (Given)
Gabriel (man of God)
Lemuel (Friend of God)
Asher (happy/contentment)
Ryan (Little King)

My Guilty pleasures - Humphrey (warrior of peace), Barnabus (son of encouragement) and Horatio (nn Ray) (The time, the season).....but I'd have them any day of I could!

I asked my 2 year old DS for a suitable name for our expected DC2, to which he replied "Jackson". I said "oh that's nice, shall we call our baby Jackson now?" Then he replied, "no, Blanket" !!!

How on earth???

Harry is my absolute favourite boys name, I used it for DS1 but DS2 was hard to choose for as I'd already used my favourite!

George, Jacob, Leo and Ben were all names on my list for DS2

Devonlover · 11/11/2011 22:35

Dominic (DS1 name)

MUM2BLESS · 11/11/2011 22:45

I like these James, David, Luke, Jason and Jayden.

Favourite would be Jayden.

LOVING Matthew but our surname is a bit too similar and stars with an M so may be a bit of a mouthful!

oliviasmama · 12/11/2011 12:21

My absolute fave is Walter.

oliviasmama · 12/11/2011 12:22

followed closely by Jonah and Arthur

GruffalowsMammy · 12/11/2011 12:27

Although I didn't come up with it I now love DS's name (Griffith) I slightly regret not using the Welsh spelling (Gruffydd) if it had been down to me, I would have picked Benjamin. I also love Iolo pronounced yol-o.
