If you could choose just one boys name as your all time favourite- what would it be?

We are really stuck on a name for DS2. We already have DS1 who is Joseph, we loved this name from day one and never ever had any doubts throughout the pregnancy and when he was born it just 'fit' and suited him perfectly. I think I love his name so much that thinking of another I like as much is impossible!

Currently names we like but don't LOVE are:
Thomas
Henry
Oliver

All fairly traditional and popular names but my question is if you could pick just ONE boys name, unusual, popular or traditional, what would it be??

Thomas - I have one! Wanted him to be a Tom though, not a Tommy, but he is insisting that he remains Thomas at the moment...

I love Henry but couldn't use it due to our surname.

I love Teddy too. I wanted Theodore on the birth certificate so a DS could use that if he wanted but would be called Teddy.

We didn't use that one either but I love my DSs names (sorry don't want to out myself).

Alexander
James
Calum
Finlay
Caleb
Finnion

If I had to choose one- Caleb.

My DS is Henry Joseph. It was either that or Joseph Henry but he looked like a Henry when he was born. I'm a bit gutted we used Joseph as a middle name to be honest as I love it and now can't use it in the future.

I adore Arthur but can't use it due to DP's surname.

mybootsaremuddy · 10/11/2011 19:23

I cant decide between my ds's names as i love them all.
Xavier
Jonathan
Quentin

Also love Elijah but it clashes with dd1s name (Elizabeth nn Eliza). If we have another ds would prob choose Ezekiel(Zeke) or Alasdair.

Ross, Connor, Bradley and Ben are my favourites. DH will need convincing. He likes Jamie but my Dad's brother is called James, everyone called him Jim but Dad always called hime Jamie. They had a huge argument two years ago and don't talk so don't think Dad be too pleased with that choice!

DH and I loved Atticus when I was pregnant (nn Attie) but weren't brave enough to use it.

I also loved Arthur but DH hated it.

Nice to see my ds's name mentioned so often here.

I love Raphael. Being Scottish it was never really going to happen though.

Pishtushette · 10/11/2011 19:56

Ruben
Felix
Rhodri

So hard to choose just one. I have two sons, and we had a couple of choices of FN and MN sets, ready to see which fitted when they arrived.

Other names on my list were:
Dominic (the first choice for DS1, but changed our minds when he was born)
Felix
Robert
Giles
Theodore

Put lots of people off the scent of what we were planning by saying "Hector" to questions about names during pregnancy. Secretly, I really like it, but count it as A Bit Out There for me!

Oliver. Love love love this name, and don't care how popular it is! It worked really well with our surname too. We're struggling to come up with another boy's name we love as much in case DC2 is a boy!

It's between Toby, Teodor and Eduard at the moment, although I love Hamish and Alexander, but we can't use either.

TheThingUpstairs · 10/11/2011 20:07

Joseph

TheThingUpstairs · 10/11/2011 20:08

Oops, not very helpful though. Also Dominic.

Great thread - am expecting DS2 so watching with interest! Love Henry out of your list. Joseph is on our list, as is Arthur and Freddie.

sunnybobs · 10/11/2011 20:11

Gabriel! As soon as my DH suggested it we both knew it was the one. Finding it difficult to find anything as immediatly fall in live with for our due DC2 though.

babybessa · 10/11/2011 20:14

I know EXACTLY what you mean op - throughout pregnancy with DS1 I knew his name as had always loved it: Thomas. Struggled so much with DS2. Boys names very hard imo. Eventually decided on Christopher. Like to think they go well together and it suits him - tho his nickname Boo at the moment thanks to his brother...

I love Henry, but we couldn't have it as a first name for various reasons.

I have a Theodore (Theo), Rufus and Rory. They have various names between them including James, Henry, Richard, John, Alexander and Victor, all of which are family names.

I loved Jasper, Sebastian, Barnaby, Benedict and Dominic but wasn't allowed any of them.....

lambbone · 10/11/2011 20:35

Edmund
Hugh
Ciaran (if ethnically appropriate)

dementedma · 10/11/2011 20:37

I have a Joseph - NOT Joe - Joseph
other names I loved were Guy, Simon, Sebastian, Benedict,James, Laurence

Crazybusyme · 10/11/2011 20:40
