If you could choose just one boys name as your all time favourite- what would it be?

We are really stuck on a name for DS2. We already have DS1 who is Joseph, we loved this name from day one and never ever had any doubts throughout the pregnancy and when he was born it just 'fit' and suited him perfectly. I think I love his name so much that thinking of another I like as much is impossible!

Currently names we like but don't LOVE are:
Thomas
Henry
Oliver

All fairly traditional and popular names but my question is if you could pick just ONE boys name, unusual, popular or traditional, what would it be??

I have two boys and their names were our absolute favorite.

Hayden
Wyatt

Other choices were
Adrian
Logan
Christian

I'm very partial to:

ELLIOT
DUKE

The latter was my fave choice for a boy as Duke de la Rosa sounds cool!

I have a friend who named her son PIRATE. Now that's something else! Really dislike Jayden, it's just awful. And there are also too many 5 year old boys named Hamish/Magnus/Fergus/Fraser/Lewis running around my daughter's scottish school. I always feel they should be wearing tweed jackets and smoking a pipe!

Joseph - though I probably wouldnt actually go with it in the end as its too similar to a relatives name plus DH doesnt like it shortened to Joe which it inevitably would be.

Sandra2011 · 11/11/2011 13:58

I have Henry & William

James, no question - has been my favourite name since I was about 11 and my best friend at school was a lovely James.

Also like

Edward
Michael (we have a surname that this just would not work with!)
Thomas
Daniel
Benedict

Joseph is my favourite. Its versatile and sounds nice. Joe is cute or you can use the long version which is a classic.

My DS is Benjamin, which gets shortened to ben......I call him Ben-bo Baggins!!

SmethWitchBelle · 11/11/2011 16:00

Clearly my post is no help to you choosing as you already have a Joseph! Couldn't help contributing to the thread Grin

Elliott is probably my all time favourite, it even makes your face smile when you say it.

I do also love Stefan a lot. HATE Stephen though, which is weird as it's practically the same name.

Stefan and Elliott sound like nice boys who play guitars and hug their mums, but are a bit mischevious. :)

Eli or Ezra

Toby. I always knew I would call my first son Toby and although it took dh a while to come round (his family cat had been Toby) we both are still thrilled with our choice 5 years on. We feel the same about dd's name, and it's a lovely feeling, esp as she adores it too.

DS2 is Oliver, which I do love but for me its popularity has taken the shine off it quite a bit. I can almost hear people thinking 'meh' when they hear it.

But it suits him, and I don't think there are many less James's/ Jacks/ Josephs/ Williams/ Thomas's about. They are classic names which have stood the test of time!

Albert.

My dad's name. It rings differently in my ears to others.

Jux · 11/11/2011 18:37

I like Ptolemy, but I don't think that helps you much Grin ( wouldn't have used it for my own either and luckily had a dd).

Alexander's pretty good with a good precedence.

Angus - DS. James, John, Richard

proudfoot · 11/11/2011 19:30

Samuel

Miette · 11/11/2011 19:32

Duke is the name of Boycie and Marlene's dog, not a baby boy name.

choceyes · 11/11/2011 19:49

Atticus

girliefriend · 11/11/2011 19:55

Alfred/ Alfie and George preferably Alfred George!!!

racingheart · 11/11/2011 19:56

bythemoonlight, Albert is a gorgeous name. Imagine how cute and cheeky a little Bertie or Albie would look. Makes me broody!

Barnum · 11/11/2011 20:13

We have a Jake (who is really Jacob), Orin, Theo and Barney - we wanted names that couldn't really be shortened and we seem to have succeeded in that quest!!
I also loved Gabriel, Arlo and Kit :)

seren82 · 11/11/2011 20:47

My overall favourite is Meilir, which is Welsh, pronounced May-leer. Samuel is traditionally my favourite but is vetoed. Also love Fabian, after a great little boy I taught. Probably won't be allowed any of them!
