OK, final name thread! One of us will be disappointed, who should it be?

We have two name choices. Neither one of us is happy about the other's choice. We have been through every name we can think of and, without a word of a lie, there is not one single name in the entire world that we agree on, believe me, we've tried and it's beginning to grind us down. We've just got totally different taste in names. So we've accepted that one of us will have to get used to a name we're not wild about.

Anyone else in the same position, what did you do? Is it possible to live with a name that's just ok and not The Name?

My mother suggested hypnotising him! She's getting fed up with me ringing her to complain about it.

Thank you all for your patience btw. I never thought this thread would hit the 100 mark. Shows what a lost cause we are Blush

There was a girl at university with DD called Velocity. Maybe you could go overboard for that and then your Dh might start to warm to Verity....

ragged · 22/10/2011 08:21

I dislike Verity as well, for same reasons as your DH.
I think I'd cry if I had an OH insisting on it.
There are so many extremely nice girl names, you'll find one eventually.

EBDteacher · 22/10/2011 08:28

Sorry- haven't read all post so don't know if this has been suggested.

What about Adeline? You could shorten it to Della ot Dell. Floral name, strong nickname.

EBDteacher · 22/10/2011 08:29

Also it means 'noble'- very strong! Smile

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 08:29

I've given up on Verity, I'm sick of flogging that dead horse. I want Julia preferably or Stephanie but no dice. Even our 3yo is getting the hump with us now :o

Argh he's so annoying. Julia sounds like a woman in her 50's apparently. But it bloody won't be will it, it'll be your newborn fecking daughter! Angry I can understand don't like it, sounds harsh etc etc but that is not a reason.

OP posts:
ragged · 22/10/2011 08:50

Julia is good! I want a grand daughter called Julia.
Am surprised you can't compromise on Clara.
Claudia?

Sophia, Claire, Katrina, Ann, Florence, Evelyn, Katya, Margaret, or Elizabeth (lots of softer nicknames)?

ragged · 22/10/2011 08:53

Martha, Rosemary, Roslyn, Megan.
Tell us his top 10 choices (leaving aside Clarabelle).

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 09:23

Madeleine
Lydia
Emilia
Amy
Emily
Joanna
Abigail
Emma
Charlotte
Libby

That's his top ten.

We both really like Jennifer but its already in the family. As I speak I am sounding out the owner of the name to see what she'd think...

He is being a bit closed minded - names like Julia are coming back into fashion, just as Victorian names did, because people are able to see past the fact that they were popular in the 1950's 60's 70's whatever, and are pretty names.

Someone I know has an Audrey, and it's beautiful for her.

What did you think of Anita?

Anna
Melissa
Alexandra/Alex
Frances
Celia
Romy

JamieComeHome · 22/10/2011 09:33

Iris
Fern
Joy

JamieComeHome · 22/10/2011 09:38

I would have though Celia might have been located in the intersection between Verity and Lydia

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 09:39

So did I but no! I've cine up with loads of names over the last 24 hours thanks to you lot and all no.

OP posts:
GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 09:40

come up with....

OP posts:
ragged · 22/10/2011 09:54

Personally I don't think any of his choices are frilly or wimpy.
Well... maybe Libby. Joanna is great, though.

ragged · 22/10/2011 09:55

I mean, how can you find Julia all you want but Joanna not? They are so very similar, no?

Ephiny · 22/10/2011 09:57

I think Emily is nice actually, not too frilly and a stronger sound than Emilia/Amelia.

What about Amity? Romilly?

I can see his point about Julia, it does sound a bit old-fashioned/middle-aged to me. But it's a lovely name in itself, and names do come back around into fashion!

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 10:00

Julia is ready for a comeback, Joanna isn't. Too many people my age called Joanna.

Emily way too common. Want to avoid the really popular ones.

OP posts:
SazZaVoom · 22/10/2011 10:02

Natasha
Nina

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 22/10/2011 10:08

And his choices aren't frilly because I weeded out all the Poppys and Daisys and Lilys because there's no point including them, they're not going to happen! :)

Carla Bruni & Sarkosy have just named their new DD Giulia ...albeit the Italian form... if that helps you DH and his old lady associations any?!
