When you were a child/teen what baby name were you going to 'definitely' use for future DC's?

...And did any of you actually use them?

You have to put the rough year too, so we can spot the trends, if any.

Me:

1991 (I was ten) I wanted Kylie and Trystin. Yes spelled like that. And Kylie had a heart above the 'i'. Ahem

1996 (fifteen) I wanted Phoebe Luna (had an interest in astronomy) and Maxwell Jordan.

Still love Phoebe now, the others...not so much!

September (or October) Rose, Jade Diamond, Tallulah and Sapphire. Think I was planning on having strippers, not children.

Also poster above - I still love Damaris Grin

When I was 15 I wanted 3 girls called Roxy, Diamond, and Destiny ..I haven't used any XD

Mclaren37 · 19/07/2016 07:16

80's - Jennifer and Joanna (my best friends names)
90's - Amber or Saffron (obvs it never occurred to me I would have a boy!)
00's - Emelia and Zachary. (I thought I was the only person in the world to have thought of these incredible original names haha - me and the rest of the nation!).
Didn't use any.

YourNewspaperIsShit · 19/07/2016 19:31

2001 - Age 10 - Amelia Rose for a girl, how would I ever now how popular those names would get Blush And Harris for a boy.

Didn't use either but still think Harris is nice :) My kids have pretty unusual names now

NaraDeer · 19/07/2016 19:38

I was absolutely going to have three children.
Jasmine Faith, Phoenix Josh and another girl who I can't quite remember but have a feeling it might have been Bluebell Confused
No. I did not use any of them.

Wordsaremything · 19/07/2016 19:47

None- HmmI was more focussed on getting good grades so I could pursue my chosen career!

jobrum · 19/07/2016 19:57

When I was around 10 so '95 I was going to name any daughter Amanda. When I was about 15 my daughter would be named Cadence. I took gcse music and thought that it would be a unique and intelligent name (its the rhythm of music). I seem to remember conversations with a friend where my son would be Devon.

I had Kai from Snow Queen by Hans Christian and used it! I think i was 10 when I made that decision haha. Angelica for a girl and don't think i will use it if i get lucky enough to get a girl :P

MadrigalElectromotive · 19/07/2016 22:31

Lillyanna
Dmitri

Hmm I have not used either of these names.

Wordsaremything · 19/07/2016 23:18

You were all dreaming of baby names? Hmm
Seriously?

LovelyBranches · 28/07/2016 22:48

I was 1 when I was given my first ever doll. Her name was Christina. She became my favorite doll of my childhood and I remember thinking that it was really cool to be called Christina because you could have three names, Christina, Chris or Tina.

I still have the doll (she's in my dm's attic, the only toy of my childhood that was kept) but I don't love the name as much now.

LovelyBranches · 28/07/2016 22:51

Wordsaremything Your post sounds quite snobby. I'm sure that lots of people on this thread managed good grades even if they had names they liked.

Seekingmiracles · 28/07/2016 23:07

Sounds like you had a 'fun' childhood words if your only focus was your grades. Having fun & day dreaming don't do anyone any harm and my career certainly hasn't been tainted because of it.

I always wanted Tiffany. And Mark Owen was going to be my husband Blush

neonrainbow · 29/07/2016 08:12

I love the fact words didn't get a response to the first post so posted again even my incredulous this time Grin its possibke to be interested in names and have a career you know.

I liked briony after the girl in if wishes were horses. I am pg with #1 but if its a girl she wont be briony.

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 29/07/2016 08:15

In the late 90s when I was about 9 I wanted Chelsea (much to my Arsenal-loving DF's dismay!)

In the mid 00s when I was about 14 there was a name I liked which I won't mention because I did use it (it's not a particularly common name!)

Stevefromstevenage · 29/07/2016 08:23

Zoe I bloody love that name but DH vetoed.

Vanillaradio · 30/07/2016 21:58

80s I was going to have triplets called Belinda, Fenella and Rosemary.
90s I liked Bethany and Pippa.
No thought I might have a boy. I have (so far?) one ds!

NapQueen · 30/07/2016 22:01

Early teens I wanted Chloe and Matthew. Then early adulthood Rex and Phoebe (which dh and I used in the cats as I thought if I "saved" them we would be tempting fate).

We have a dd and a DS and used totally different names.

FayaMAMA · 31/07/2016 12:02

Stacey and Zoey.... I never dreamed of having boys ("why would I want to do that" I would retort when my mother would ask me what about naming any sons...LOL). This was late 90s. I then added Chloe into the mix, solely because it rhymed with Zoey...Chloe is my daughter's middle name now after my best friend.

I then went through a 'colour names' obsession around the age of 14/15 in 2005 loving Ruby, Lilac, Lavender, 'Red' as a nn for Meredith, Amber, Coral, Jade, Scarlet, etc. Ironically, I always hated Violet which is now one of my DDs names.

CaoNiMa · 01/08/2016 15:54

I was fond of "Cantabria" (??) for a girl, and my own creation "Oquit" for a boy, pronounced Ock-witt.

I remain childless!

Wordsaremything · 01/08/2016 21:36

Sorry if I ruffled feathers- I had a perfectly fine childhood, but getting married and naming children just wasn't a priority in my peer group. At all. ( 70s, feminist influenced girls grammar school)

Names fascinate me now though, for lots of reasons. I often find with cats they have two names - the one you give them and the (far more suitable) one they tell you later.

I absolutely love my own name, 'traditional' as it is - and I often wonder how it must be to be given a name you dislike, for whatever reason ( too boring, not unique enough, too out there, etc.)

OlafLovesAnna · 01/08/2016 21:58

In the early 1990s when I would have been 11,12,13 ish it was Chloe or Jordan for a girl. I wasn't having any boys!

MrsRhubarb · 06/08/2016 15:20

As a teenager I was definitely going to call a future son Joshua. I don't think I'm likely to use it now though, just don't love it like I used to. Mind you, we haven't had a boy yet so you never know.

I can't remember any girls names, though as a child I did love Jacqui/Jacqueline, but I think it was more that I wished my parents had called me that!
