Just wondering what you all think the next 'on-trend' names are going to been...???

I hope Iris does fizzle out soon. My 10 year old is Iris - I would be happy if it fizzles out before it gets into the top 200!

True, it's an extension of the Evie/Eva/Ava thing. Was trying to think of other more interesting names of my Mum's generation, like Cecily.

we thought we were being very original in planning a delilah, to be known as dilly for dd three years ago. the first two babies i met when dd was born (we went for dora with esme for middle name - not met another dora. yet). were called delilah. why why why?

Lots of Sophia's here lately, loads of Sophie's too, they all bleeerrrr into one for me....

Loving Arthur for my current bump, but looking at this it sounds like its trending in a big way! OH wants John, which could almost be radical :)

I know a couple of Johns. Is on the up I think, along with Peter, Gregory, Douglas.

Jenifer, Genevieve, Samantha - i LOVE Genevieve and would have called a daughter that name. Only ever known one.

My DS is Alfie - which i love and don't care how popular it is.

I've had enough of Poppy, Ruby, Lily and Daisy (and the -mae's that follow) The same with Keira/Kiera and Sienna. I come across these the most a lot on boards but not in RL.

Would be lovely to hear some fresh new names

So all the Ollies and Archie's aside, I know of two trendy shoreditch types who haves named baby boys John lately. In a kind of so un-trendy it's trendy way. I know of two little boys called Red and a Harper and an Atticus.

I think girls will move away from 'Granny-chic' towards 70s classic: Susannah, Margaux, Betsy. And that will be fine by me - all lovely names.

I would also look at what the US name charts are saying. My DD has a name that, 8 years ago, was really unknown in the UK. She was named after my MIL and we took the English spelling. In fact, it was the first one the registrar we used had ever recorded. 8 years later, it's been the most popular name in the US for years and is very much at nearing the top of the charts in the UK too. Drives me MAD!!! :D

I live in South Wales and don't know of any baby Olivers at all! They all seam to be the Brooklyn/Boston type and for girls its Olivia, Grace and Lacey.

The names I like are very M N popular but don't know any in real life!

I hope Winifred doesn't make a come back as it makes even my granny sound old!
The next big things? Umm Gabrielle and Felix maybe?

Surprised by all the Clementines, was DHs great nans name so DD (nearly 1) is Summer Clementine Hope

I have a nearly 2 year old Clementine (ahead of my time, obviously) and have not yet met another, despite reading 'predictions' on MN for the past 2 years saying how popular it is about to get.

Of course there must be other Clementines about, but anyone thinking of not choosing a name they love because of MN predictions should remember that MN does not always accurately reflect RL, and that just because MNers 'predict' something, that doesn't nessesarily make it happen!

the newest babies I know are Joshua, Raphael, Edward/Teddy, Jonathon, Joel, Isobel, Josephine, Rory, Janella, Zazhary, Eva, Mia, Daniel...I don't see any particular trend there! I've heard of a few Raphaels lately, but only know one personally. Zach and Mia and Isobel have been fairly popular for a while.

K8ster the Kit I know is a boy..! Was on my list if DD had been a DS...LOVE IT.

I agree with cowboylover Gabrielle IMHO will grow as too will; Paul, John, Robert, David, Sarah, Jane, Louise, Laura and Emma etc will grown I'm sure (guessing here, naturally ) Basically names from my primary school years. But hopefully not the Kevin's or Cheryl's might need to wait for another 30 years for them to 'come back into fashion'

Feel I've had a narrow escape, lots of these names were on our shortlist, but the name we picked hasn't cropped up once!

As explained in the book Freakonomics names tend to move in cycles and names like Clementine, Quentin and Atticus were fairly popular among 'posh' people 10 years ago and they're now moving down the 'ranks'. Also 'old' names with whom our generation has no associations are becoming fashionable as we're always looking for 'new' names.

hellojude, the names you mention (David, Paul, Sarah, Steve etc) are still all around us so I don't expect these names to become fashionable until the next generation finds them 'unusual' and 'different' again.

Round here - still lots of Alfie and I know 2 called Arlo, 2 called Milo and 2 called Sebastian.

I have a 9 week old Arthur and none of the midwives had ever met one before. But if it does turn out to be popular then oh well, I still love it.

I totally agree with Rufus and Wilfred - I know at least 5 of each under 18 months. Other names which are already nearly up there and I would class as already trendy are Felix, Arthur, Jenson, Albert (all Bertie names), Zane, Dexter, Arlo, Rafferty, Jude, Reuben and Elijah.

Girls are Clementine, Mabel, Edie (the new Evie?), Iris, Ivy, Delilah, Elodie and already 'trendy' but will continue to rise.. Esme, Florence, Martha, Darcey, Tabitha, Matilda, Skye.
