I know a baby Lara and a baby Lana

I have just looked through this thread and, HelloJude, we were in the same supermarket at the same time last week! The mum called really loudly to Huckleberry very frequently and mentioned Cosmo half a dozen times as well. I actually mentioned it to DH that evening because I kept thinking it would make a good Mumsnet Baby Names topic! We must be neighbours.

baby will be here within a week, and when it appears he/she will be Daphne or Hector. Hector is a lot more 'trendy', I know, but I still love it. We know no other baby Daphnes and when I have mentioned this name to others, it's always been greeted with surprise - 'I hadn't thought of that!' and then 'that's a real grower - I love it!' which is the reaction we like. I predict Jean to become the new middle name du jour - to replace those faded Roses and Maes

Well D.J. Dapperflapper certainly makes for a good stage name .

I can't really take Jean seriously as it's my MIL's name so NEVER EVER for me I'm afraid. Although of all the grandparent's names it is probably the least offensive!

When Oedipus killed his father and married his mother, wasn't Jocasta the mother he married? Merope was the woman he thought was his mother... much nicer name too.

I have a Stanley, and in 19 months, have met three others. DS1 has a name which is in the top 20, and yet I haven't met another child with his name?! I think Stanley is part of the "second wave" of old fashioned names now that Alfie, Jack, Charlie, Freddie, Frank, etc have been popular.

whizzyrocket judging by the number of kids around my area named after Greek/Roman Gods, it won't take long before people start going for the 'Greek tragedy' names just to be different.

I really love the name Lavinia, then a friend reminded me of Titus Andronicus. Stupid Shakespeare messing up names for people!!
