I hope all the people choosing Pippa realise it is a slang word for masturbation in Greece!!

It seems to be all traditional, old fashioned names coming back - Winifred, Susannah, Katherine etc. People are bored with the obvious 'old' names like Ruby, Milly, Evie etc and are looking around for alternatives.

Cattleprod · 17/05/2011 09:14

hellojude - I think you're right (possibly with the exception of the name Dick!), and also other classic novels - Bronte sisters, anything that has been made into a tv period drama etc.

FoxyRevenger · 17/05/2011 10:27

Wilfie??? Oh god, noooooo

CandiceMariePratt · 17/05/2011 10:31

Florence and Rufus are getting very popular
manicinsomniac I think Agatha is the most beautiful name in the world!

hellokitty123 · 17/05/2011 10:41

Agree with lots of you above, I think old fashioned, traditional names (a la Enid Blyton) will become more popular - Anne, Quentin, Georgina, Peter, George, maybe not Dick and Fanny Grin. Also old fashioned names like Edith, Doris and Mary.

slowshow · 17/05/2011 11:26

Definitely Florence and Esme. I think Isla is very much on the up as well.

smother · 17/05/2011 11:31

Girls' names that are currently reaching their popularity peak are:

Amelia, Amelia and more Amelia
Also Florence, Matilda, Esme

And on the rise are:
Arabella, Cecily, Felicity (at least on MN!), Tess, Rose.....

MamaLazarou · 17/05/2011 11:32

Yes, I have met lots of baby Islas and Esmes recently.

I love Agatha but can't see it getting hugely popular.

Ethan and Leon seem to be very trendy round here (West Kent) at the moment.

poppydaisy · 17/05/2011 11:38

Here there are still lots of little Alfie/Archies/Lilys/Ellies but I know of a baby Dorothy and a baby Quentin born in the last year, so perhaps 'old' names are indeed becoming more popular?

Oh yes, Clementine... I know of two born this year. Also agree with Theo - and Leo. They seem to be everywhere.

Toby/Tobey(!) is another one I've noticed a lot recently. I know two under 2s called Toby-Lee Shock

ClipArt · 17/05/2011 12:12

Isla, Esme, Matilda, Kate, Seren, Orla

Joel, Gabriel, Ted/Teddy, Jude, Kit, Sebastian

MamaLazarou · 17/05/2011 12:50

Noah seems very fashionable at the moment, too. I even met a baby girl called Noah yesterday.

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/05/2011 12:57

Noa (no "h") is a popular Hebrew girl's name.

MamaLazarou · 17/05/2011 13:03

Oh, maybe it was that, then. I didn't see it written down. Gorgeous baby, at any rate.

Nancy66 · 17/05/2011 13:08

I tell you what I've heard a couple of times now - both times the parents were very arty, Shoreditch types: Jean

MummyDoIt · 17/05/2011 13:23

Wayne and Sharon. About time they made a comeback!

MamaChoo · 17/05/2011 13:38

Argh all three potential boys names on here, not my girl choice so far .

Isabella/Isobel still seem incredibly popular. Molly, Freya, Sophia, Olivia, Clemmie, Beatrice...

tattycoram · 17/05/2011 13:39

I know two baby Wilfs, three Felixes and two Zoes.

Mitzimaybe · 17/05/2011 13:45

My granny was called Ethel. Do you think that's due a comeback?

Only babies in my friends/family (both girls) so far this year are Eve and Evie.

Edmundo · 17/05/2011 13:47

Felix, Rufus, Wilfred (I know 2 new babies called Wilfred), Arthur, Albert, Stanley, Sidney, Jude, Theodore, Reuben, Elijah

Clementine, Beatrice, Florence, Isla, Imogen, Eliza, Beatrice, Esme (this is massively on the rise), Mabel, Agnes, Iris, Ivy

strandednomore · 17/05/2011 13:48

A lot of names on here have been popular for a long time - eg all the Wilfs and Alfies, also Isobel/la, Imogen, Florence,Esme etc - all names we were considering a few years ago (the girls, not the boys - I am not keen on the "arch" boys names and always favoured the more traditional but some might say boring Williams and Thomas's). There again, I might just be a little ahead of the game and tend to think things are popular because I have heard of a few when in fact it's only when the trickle becomes a flood that it's really popular. A la Ruby, Daisy, Poppy and Evie (all nice names but isn't it time to stop now?)

I agree with whoever said Jean.

There are 2 baby Arthurs who are close neighbours. I just think of a bald headed fat old bloke. As for Agatha - I too think it's the ugliest name ever. I suppose trends will come and go but agree the old names are coming back. My friend has recently had a granchild Florence May and I agree with whoever said Ellie and Lily - the schools are going to be full of them. All my grandchildren have lovely names (of course!)

pranma · 17/05/2011 13:53

Only baby in my family in last 2 years is Imogen Rose
