DD2 is a few days old, and people are constantly asking for a name, as it took me almost 6 weeks to name ds. Had a name chosen, but not sure it suits her now, was going with Elizabeth nn Betsy.
Everyone thinks im being silly saying she'll grow into her name, but changed dd1 name by deed poll as her name never fitted.
She looks like a Matilda to me, but am worried how popular it is, esp in trendy areas of london.
How popular are these names? and which do you prefer? Want her named by saturday so I can stop avoiding the phone, lol
Mylist is -
Betsy
Matilda
Martha
Jemima
Kitty (not cathrine!)

Hulababy · 10/03/2011 22:06

None of either!

I am suprised really as I work in an infant school with about 135 girls and DD's school has about 90 girls too!

usualsuspect · 10/03/2011 22:06

I don't know any children with any of those names

I do not live in a trendy area of London though

Unless people you actually know also have the name - who cares. You are always going to find people who share your name.
My vote is for Matilda/Tilly :)

sungirltan · 10/03/2011 22:12

none of any! i live in plymouth.

i like jemima best but betsy is also nice but the fact that denise van outen named her kid that puts me off but thats my taste - dont let it put you off

pilates · 11/03/2011 09:48

None

Hedwig3 · 11/03/2011 09:51

2 x Martha - aged 4 and 12

1 x Kitty - aged 21

Hope decision making is going well Smile

piratecat · 11/03/2011 09:52

i don't know anyone with those names, so well done!!

I like Betsy, yet if you really feel she looks like a Matilda, then go for it, Tilly is lovely!!

Tidey · 11/03/2011 09:53

No children with those names, but I know a cat called Matilda. They're all very nice names. Prefer the others to Betsy though.

TwistAndShout · 11/03/2011 09:58

I know one Matilda and one Kitty. I'm in Bedfordshire.

I love Elizabeth, as lots of lovely nick names too.

I would have had a Matilda though, if any of DSs had been girls.

moodymama · 11/03/2011 09:59

Betsy 0
Matilda 3
Martha 0 (my top choice for a girl)
Jemima 1 (plus another in her 30s)
Kitty 1 age 1 plus a 70-something year old.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 11/03/2011 09:59

I know lots of Catherine's who USE Kitty.

No Betsy's (really like Elizabeth as a full name, lots of nn potential)

2 Marthas - 1 aged 3ish and the other an adult

1 Matilda/Tillie - under 5 but exactly how old I'm not sure. I also know one who's about 80 and called Mattie.

And bizarrely 3 Jemimas all under 5. I didn't have it in my head as a popular name but evidently it is!

Those are all over the UK though

SenoritaViva · 11/03/2011 10:02

I work in a small school so I'm going to include them too (85 kids):

Betsy - 0
Matilda - 1 adult
Martha - 1 adult
Jemima - 0
Kitty (not cathrine!) - 0

slightlymadmoo · 11/03/2011 10:13

we don't have any of these up here Grin
i really like Kitty though

gorionine · 11/03/2011 10:14

Betsy 0
Matilda 0
Martha 0
Jemima 0
Kitty 0

ThisFeelsWeird · 11/03/2011 10:16

Your shortlist is lovely, they are all really good names so you can't go wrong, whichever you pick.

I probably like Kitty the least just because it puts me in mind of cats and "Here, kitty kitty".

Jemima is so sweet - yes I think of Puddleduck but that is no bad thing!

Martha is a wonderful name, works so well on babies and adults alike. She could go anywhere with a name like that.

Matilda, I do know a couple, probably the most popular from your list. I don't like Mattie as a nn, only Tilly.

Betsy is very cute but I wonder if it's a bit fashionable? Think DVO.

My fave would be Martha.

TaffetasCatCameBack · 11/03/2011 10:16

Betsy - 0
Matilda - 1
Martha - 0
Jemima - 1
Kitty - 1
Elizabeth - 2

TaffetasCatCameBack · 11/03/2011 10:19

FWIW, Matilda I think of the Roald Dahl book, a great girl.
Martha I think of Lane Fox, a strong woman and entrepreneur
Jemima - I think of the doll on Play School and Puddleduck
Kitty - I think of Hello Kitty and cats
Elizabeth - I think of the Queen. One of my close friends has a 3yo Elizabeth she calls Liz. Love it, it so untrendy.
Betsy I agree is a bit now and also IMO a bit twee

JoanofArgos · 11/03/2011 10:26

Jemima 1

Giddyup · 11/03/2011 10:35

Of all the names on your list I only know one Matilda (Tilda by me/ Tilly from most others) and she is my 4 month old.

We live in the South West, we are moving to London soon so asked a friend about the popularity of the name and she knows 1 other Matilda who is about 4 or 5 years old.

ZenNudist · 11/03/2011 11:03

I know one baby kitty, one Tilly, one milly. I don't know if these have been given the full name on birth certificate.

It's good to give your dd options with a long name that can be shortened. Elizabeth and mathilda certainly have a bunch of abbreviations.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 11/03/2011 12:25

I know 3 Marthas.
None of the others.
