I love Alice but I can't use it because of issues with our surname... so I was wondering if people could suggest similar sounding names? many thanks!

I always think Jessica is a name like Alice, but it doesn't sound anything like it.

So I'm probably no help Hmm

Um, how like Alice do you want it to sound - like Janice? Or like similar letter at the beginning and similar number of sylabbles like Anna?

Alyssa
Elyssa

thanks v much Poppyknot - like Elsie a lot.

The name doesn't have to sound the same as Alice but more have the same feeling and be the same sort of name, if you know what I mean.

What sort of image/associations does the name Alice conjure up?

I think of Alice as a simple non frilly very English name. Slightly medieval/olde English perhaps. So how about these with a similar "feel":

Tamsin
Cecily
Clare
Eleanor
Marian

Elsie
Eliza
Florence
Hannah

Sarah
Laura
Rebecca
Rachel

I think of these as simple classic names. :)

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 22/10/2010 15:48

Leah?

notasize10yetbutoneday · 22/10/2010 15:50

Eleanor?
Celia?
Laura?

Simple but classic.

smother · 22/10/2010 15:53

I agree, Alice is simple and classic. But I also think of it as prettier than some of the other names suggested here which sound a bit more 'solid' (not in a bad way).

It's hard to describe, but I like the prettiness and simplicity of Alice (it kind of sparkles to me when I say it) and I can't think of another name like it! .... I'm probably not making much sense but it's hard to describe as I say.

Please keep the suggestions coming, it is helping!

I have an Alice.

Other names we considered were Ellen, Eleanor, Lucy and Rebecca

EssieW · 22/10/2010 15:55

And we would have considered Laura but friends already have one.

Also like Katherine which I think is similar feel to Alice.

Anna also lovely

crumpetsolo · 22/10/2010 15:58

We are (probably) having an Alice. Other names we like are -

Juliet, Thea, Isobel, Harriet, Madeleine, Camilla, Annabel, Imogen, Clara.

Hope you find something that sparkles.

upahill · 22/10/2010 16:43

I loved the name Alice but it is spoiled by that parody of the song 'Livin' next door to Alice' Now everytime there is an Alice around you can garentee that some middle aged oaf will shout 'Alice?... Who the f..k is Alice!'

Totally rubbished the name.

tummytickler · 22/10/2010 16:43

Iris?

Spookberries · 22/10/2010 16:46
