I love Alice but I can't use it because of issues with our surname... so I was wondering if people could suggest similar sounding names? many thanks!

What is your surname, Alice? If you like the name so much are you sure you're not writing it off for a non reason? I'm trying to think of a surname which would rule it out... Ellis? Alice Ellis is ok...Wallis? Alice Wallis? Again, not a deal breaker. Inwonderland? That could be a problem, I grant you Wink

Carys
Alexa
Sophie
Polly
Susannah
Paris
Lucy

all seem to have something tenuous in common with Alice to me

what level of similarity were you hoping for though?

Top of our list this time are Alice and Katherine (Kate).

It's got to be Cooper. Can't think of any other surname that would have an issue with Alice.

Cooper, of course! He's cool though, not a bad thing...yeah, would raise a few eyebrows I guess :)

Alice was on my shortlist but DH won't hear of it. These names have the same sort of pretty "feel" to me:

Cora
Constance (Connie)
Orla
Rose
Emily

Also like Esther (Tess) or Estelle (Stella).

I was thinking of Alice for DD2 (due in 2 days) but am now waving towards Lydia, Florence, Beatrice or Frances.

Esther/Hester is lovely.

Emilia - I have 2 boys so never got to use it, but I think it's very pretty.

My DD1 is Katherine Alice (Short surname)
DD2 is Victoria Jane.

DD2 was going to be Jessica but it just didn't suit when she was born.

I used Alice for DD even though it sounds bad with our surname (I figure she won't have it forever!)

Other names in a similar vein...

Margot/Margaret/Marguarite
Emma
Philippa
Katherine
Adelaide (that comes from the same stem as Alice and is still very pretty)

thanks for the suggestions- some beautiful names. None I love quite as much as Alice but getting there....

no, my surname isn't cooper or inwonderland etc!

it's just a name that would go pretty badly with the initial A. before it..... would make an otherwise normal surname a source of potential teasing. Honestly, I'd use Alice if I could!

If it's an issue with the initial could you call her Something Alice Surname, and call her Alice? I know a couple of people whose parents swapped the two first names around to avoid unfortunate acronyms, but used the middle name day to day.

I said "Phallus", Greeny, don't think it's a goer, somehow.

am trying to empaffize, innit Grin

Felice?
Or Millicent?

Is you surname Rse? Or Psehit?

OK, I give up, I guess you're sure you can't use it. Just seems a shame. What about a silent H? Halice?
