I love Alice but I can't use it because of issues with our surname... so I was wondering if people could suggest similar sounding names? many thanks!

One of my dds has Alice as one of her names and I love it. Other names that I like are:

Marianne
Yolande
Hermione
Isobel
Rebecca
Ruth
Daisy
Clover
Naomi
Lydia
Elinor
Cecily
Beatrice

What is your surname, Alice? If you like the name so much are you sure you're not writing it off for a non reason? I'm trying to think of a surname which would rule it out... Ellis? Alice Ellis is ok...Wallis? Alice Wallis? Again, not a deal breaker. Inwonderland? That could be a problem, I grant you Wink

GreenStinkingStumpSleeves · 22/10/2010 16:51

Carys
Alexa
Sophie
Polly
Susannah
Paris
Lucy

all seem to have something tenuous in common with Alice to me

what level of similarity were you hoping for though?

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 22/10/2010 16:51

Kate or Anna

GrumpyFish · 22/10/2010 16:58

Top of our list this time are Alice and Katherine (Kate).

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 22/10/2010 16:59

It's got to be Cooper. Can't think of any other surname that would have an issue with Alice.

RockBat · 22/10/2010 17:01

Cooper, of course! He's cool though, not a bad thing...yeah, would raise a few eyebrows I guess :)

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 22/10/2010 17:01

or InChains

BridesheadRegardless · 22/10/2010 18:20

Lucy

or

Kate.

they are both simple yet pretty and have a slightly old fashioned feel.

Phallus?

cyanarasamba · 22/10/2010 18:46

Alice was on my shortlist but DH won't hear of it. These names have the same sort of pretty "feel" to me:

Cora
Constance (Connie)
Orla
Rose
Emily

Also like Esther (Tess) or Estelle (Stella).

PaulineMole · 22/10/2010 18:47

I was thinking of Alice for DD2 (due in 2 days) but am now waving towards Lydia, Florence, Beatrice or Frances.

BelligerentGhoul · 22/10/2010 18:50

Esther/Hester is lovely.

BarnMummy · 22/10/2010 18:53

Emilia - I have 2 boys so never got to use it, but I think it's very pretty.

eatyourveg · 22/10/2010 19:10

Grace or Esme

toomanyprojects · 22/10/2010 21:00

My DD1 is Katherine Alice (Short surname)
DD2 is Victoria Jane.

DD2 was going to be Jessica but it just didn't suit when she was born.

LadyCressida · 22/10/2010 21:26

I used Alice for DD even though it sounds bad with our surname (I figure she won't have it forever!)

Other names in a similar vein...

Margot/Margaret/Marguarite
Emma
Philippa
Katherine
Adelaide (that comes from the same stem as Alice and is still very pretty)

smother · 23/10/2010 11:19

thanks for the suggestions- some beautiful names. None I love quite as much as Alice but getting there....

no, my surname isn't cooper or inwonderland etc!

it's just a name that would go pretty badly with the initial A. before it..... would make an otherwise normal surname a source of potential teasing. Honestly, I'd use Alice if I could!

SpiderWilliam · 23/10/2010 12:06

If it's an issue with the initial could you call her Something Alice Surname, and call her Alice? I know a couple of people whose parents swapped the two first names around to avoid unfortunate acronyms, but used the middle name day to day.

GreenStinkingStumpSleeves · 23/10/2010 12:07

What about Phyllis?

KatieScarlett2833 · 23/10/2010 12:09

I said "Phallus", Greeny, don't think it's a goer, somehow.

GreenStinkingStumpSleeves · 23/10/2010 12:12

lol yes, but I don't much like Alice either, on account of it containing the word "lice"

am trying to empaffize, innit Grin

Felice?
Or Millicent?

RockBat · 23/10/2010 16:16

Is you surname Rse? Or Psehit?

OK, I give up, I guess you're sure you can't use it. Just seems a shame. What about a silent H? Halice?
