That is in such bad taste.

That is in such bad taste.

Why? It’s not unusual for people from current news to be painted in a mural, especially in Melbourne. Australians aren’t likely to ever forget the deaths.

SkyOfficer · 20/06/2025 10:10

I was wondering about Erin's children? Will they be with Simon whilst trial is ongoing or in care?
If she's found guilty, will they move in with Simon? And if she's found not guilty (hypothetical scenario) would they go live with her - how messed is that for them!

My understanding is that she’s been remanded in custody since being charged, so I would assume the children have been living with him.

velvetandsatin · 20/06/2025 10:31

I thought they were with their aunt and uncle and their family, Simon's brother Mathew and his wife Tanya. That's who Erin requested look after them back at the very start, anyway.

TerrorAustralis · 20/06/2025 10:57

How odd. It’s 2025, not 1955. Surely most men would choose to care for their own children if their mother was incarcerated.

FeralWoman · 20/06/2025 11:11

I thought that they were with their dad. She might have requested that his brother and wife have them but with no formal custody arrangements in place then it would be the dad’s choice. No reason for them not to be with their dad.

During the trial the extended family are probably helping out so that he can attend the trial and the children can attend school.

Yazzi · 20/06/2025 11:35

The kids have refused to live with Simon. Their paternal aunt and uncle, who Erin was close to, appears to have legal care of them. Though I think the son said he's actually been mostly staying alone in Erin's house (he's 14):

Lunde · 20/06/2025 12:25

I'm sure I read somewhere that Simon has significant long term effects of his "mystery illness" and had had multiple stomach operations and certain ongoing mobility issues.

TerrorAustralis · 20/06/2025 12:52

The extended family situation seems weirder and weirder. But if the story that the boy is living on his own is true, surely DCS would get involved?

Yeah it's hard to get a clear picture there.

And yet Mathew Patterson was the first person, from what I understand, that she told her lie to about where she got the mushrooms for that meal. She told him, in Woolworths and from an Asian grocer, as his parents were critically ill and the doctors in desperate need of clarity...

How he must feel.

SkyOfficer · 20/06/2025 16:09

Hmmm didn't simon pay the bare minimum child support payments of like 40 dollars and wouldn't financially contribute to his sons operation?

Confusedbylifeingeneral · 20/06/2025 20:20

Simon hasn’t exactly been painted in the greatest light, has he? Whether it is true or not, who knows. What a nightmare, having your private lives raked over like this. Awful. Whether guilty or innocent.

velvetandsatin · 20/06/2025 23:02

Simon has been painted in a poor light by an acknowledged liar and an alleged multiple murderer, who calls her own children liars. Bear that in mind.

GirlOverboard123 · 20/06/2025 23:22

Probably already been talked about, but I hadn’t picked up on this until seeing it mentioned on Reddit just now. The date her computer was used to search for death cap mushroom sightings in the Victoria area, 28th May 2022, was just one day after an alleged attempt on Simon’s life that she was originally charged with. Very interesting timing…

Those were quotes from his police interview in regard to the last year prior to the murders, not since his mother was charged. He was mostly staying with Erin and not going to his father's on the weekend, before she allegedly murdered his father's parents and aunt.

Ah- good catch and makes a lot more sense. I am sure I have also read that they are in the care of their paternal aunt and uncle now- but it's hard to find a source because it's all the minute-by-minute diaries by the court reporters, so my memory may not be correct.

courageiscontagious · 22/06/2025 04:47

Is Erin out on bail or in jail at the moment?

Dustyblue · 22/06/2025 04:48

I've also read that the kids are with their parental aunt & uncle.

Christ alive, nobody would countenance a 14 y/o staying alone by themselves!

I wonder if their aunt/uncle have kids of their own? It's a very big deal to take on 2 kids/teenagers under traumatic circumstances. Let alone with your own kids to consider. The ripple effect here is terrible.

Edited

She's been remanded in custody since she was charged. Was definitely not granted bail.

but the doctors had identified that it was death cap mushrooms already - they told Erin when she first came to the hospital.

so it’s not like she withheld information that would have helped- they knew it was death caps.

really impressive from the doctors to narrow it down so fast

I've put up another post under "Aussie & NZ Mumsnetters" on this!

It's a poll on what way we all think we'd go, if we were on the jury. Check it out

If he’d been paying child support then there would be clear financial evidence of that, which the prosecution would have been waving around to strengthen their argument that EP is not a credible witness and had lied in the witness box.

I think we can conclude he was being cheap with child support and didn’t pay for his children’s medical expenses.
