Dentists - Eugh ! I'm halfway through implant surgery. No, not my Nellies, my front tooth.

It should all be over and done with by August'ish. I have a sticky bridge at the moment and it feels really weird.

Anyway, enough ....

I'm hoping to start on a new commission fabric box canvas tomorrow, but haven't got anything else new to share with you. This sunny weather is no good for the ole' crafting mojo !

champs · 13/05/2008 21:06

cheers dior!! forgot to say, good luck with your comp.

tillyboo lol@ nellies!! the sun has made me quiet loungy! I want to do some crafting but i want to enjoy the sun too lol

Miaou · 14/05/2008 09:50

Very quick message because I am running out to playgroup in a sec - a friend is going to get my website up and going - what should I have on it do you think? I want to make it a kind of showcase of my best work and so that I can get commissions (hopefully), and also some kind of payment system so I can use paypal. Any thoughts on what else/how to structure it MOST welcome!!

jeangenie · 14/05/2008 10:09

I spent the best part of two hours last night trying to embroider an eyelid. Granted it was a particularly hooded one but really, one eyelid? and I didn't even get it all finished. Ladies, I tell you there were expletives. Oh yes.Pride and Prejudice style needlework evening it most certainly wasn't
Now I am not sure if this was caused by my needle (very difficult to get through, much pulling and pushing and cursing each time) my embroidery floss (kept unravelling and knotting) the tension in my hoop (couldn't get it really tight) the number of layers of appliqued fabric and adhesive stuff I was trying to get through (about 3) or what...ANY IDEAS before I lose my mind. My little project has to be finished by Friday and last night's work took so long I am despairing of ever getting even that part complete....

good luck with comp dior
well done with tooth filing LK bet it felt much better afterwards
no idea about website miaou but good luck
hello to everyone else enjoying the heat - is it about to leave us though?

haircut fiasco update - it's still extremely short and will be for forseeable future, dinner circle folk will chortle but I will be wearing fabulous heels to distract attention [cunning]

compensatory shopping update - another very girly cropped hairdo disguising dress and many other small items purchased yesterday...there are some advantages to working alright, especially when you work on Covent Garden Piazza must try to remember that next time I am super envious of you all crafting all day while I am stuck here in the office, dreaming (nightmaring!) of appliqued eyelids (and wasting time on MN)

chrissnow · 14/05/2008 10:59

Jeangenie - Me and DH are going to a ball in Russell Square in June. I believe it's quite close to Covent Garden? We're going early to get some shopping/ambling around done. Any places I must go to?

oops sorry Dior - i know you do, and Ranting, and probably some others too...and I didn't mean to imply that those of you who don't have outside the home jobs don't work either...(sometimes I need to come to work for a rest tbh)

[JG slinks away head down with shame]

chrissnow · 14/05/2008 11:26

Jeangenie - I don't think anyone took offence. I know how you feel though. Sometimes I look at all the wonderful creations and get a bit and think how do they have the time to do all that? Answer I suspect is they're just more disciplined than me!!!! Or have children who join in with crafting rather than 'helping' in a very unhelpful gluey way!!!

lucykate · 14/05/2008 11:58

i know i'm really lucky being at home atm. ds still naps and will sleep for up to 2 hours in the morning, plus he's at nursery 2 days a week, which we've chosen to pay for as his speech wasn't as good as it should be. he's come on in leaps and bounds at nursery, we only have to go until september then he gets his 5 funded sessions, yippee!

the idea is that i use those 2 days to make things to sell on etsy which goes towards paying for nursery

i've served my time and supported dh for 12 years while he built up his business, this is the pay off

i'm not sure what i'll do when ds starts school though, it would be great to think 'lucykate crafts' will be built up into a bit more of a business by then, although in reality, i may be looking for p/t work to help. problem is, i feel like i really don't want a career job with lots of responsibility and stress again, been there, done that!

Gingermonkey · 14/05/2008 12:06

Well, I love the dentist, and I have all my own teeth and not a single filling {sticking out tongue emoticon] . But I am a little obsessed with cleaning them, tbh (fear of needles - my worst fear is a filling). But I really feel for you LK, ouch ouch ouch!!! DH has rubbish teeth that crumble at the sight of a boiled sweet.

JG - can't wait to see your hair. Of course, I don't now what it was like before, but I like short hair (good job, as mine is really short at the minute). It's so easy, and I am not very good with 'hairdos'.

Has anyone seen in the paper today about the woman being sued by the BBC for making and giving away Doctor Who knitted toys. It's a joke, poor woman. How flippin' ridiculous!!!!

Right, I am far too busy to be on here, I have a house to clean and a doll to make plus a vampire rabbit. I don't know where to begin with that one.

RH - I am so pleased DD likes her cat.

chrissnow · 14/05/2008 12:23

vampire rabbit? . You know what worries me most about that statement is that is kind of makes sense!!!

Hola Senoras

Just quickly popping in to say that I'm back.
Had a lovely time, very relaxed, weather a bit iffy but it was lovely to get away from it all.

Can't wait to see what you've all been up to.

I had a few brainstorming extra ideas for the doll swap so I'm going to get on with that and hopefully post it this week as I wanted to send it before we went away

Hope your all well

vInTaGeVioLeT · 14/05/2008 14:46

jeangenie i would suggest a leather needle for your layered embroidery problems! it is a triangular shaped/tipped needle and instead of just the tip being sharp the edges are too {if you see what i mean?} however you may not find one easily or get one fine enough - i totally sympathise though as i've had many a tussle with unco-operative needles and bulky fabrics - maybe a thimble would help too?

lucykate · 14/05/2008 18:25

had to post this, really cute crochet owl pattern

here

Evening ladies, have left you a comment Dior on your blog.
Haven't done a lot of crafting, have had a two hour commute each way to do this week for my training so I am starting to flag a bit, was holding up really well there for a while!
Had a bit of a skim read, so hope you're better LK, (and of course the rest of you), Champs I am Vintage kittykat, thanks for the add, must update my blog links while I'm about it too.
Been catching up with my emails and this took my fancy today. Just wanted to share that.
And Chrissnow, you noticed, did you .

NOOOOOOOO Dior - you didn't upset me, though I am very glad that I didn't really upset you either - I was just busy in meetings all day - bloody well interferes with MN I can tell you. I was worried though as I have a tendency in RL to put my foot in it...luckily I normally realise fairly quickly and apologise (tho' am sure there have been MANY times I haven't and the recipient of my totally unintended barbed comment has been miffed without me realising) in fact my best friends when I was growing up used to call me "tactless annie", they got used to me fairly quickly and are still my best friends 27 years after we met so I am lucky. I still insult them regularly without realising. They take the piss out of me bigtime.

Anyway, glad all is well. I love both your cards. I think I slightly prefer the composition of the sweetheart one, and the stamping etc, but like you I love the colours of te other one. There is just something about pink and green together that does it for me every time.

Aha, that may be the answer VV - I will check - I am on to the second eyelid tonight, changed to a different needle and a shorter length of thread which seems to be helping a bit, but is still tough going and I have only 30 minutes before I need to watch desperate housewives - just having a quick teabreak now and then back to it

chrisnow tell me what sort of things you like and I'll recommend some places in Covent Garden - do you know it at all? do you want to mooch, have coffee, eat, shop, get some culture, or something else? It is close enough to Russell Square, maybe 15 minutes walk...

right, back to the eyelids with me...

chrissnow · 15/05/2008 07:41

Dior - have commented. Funnily enough I really really like the card that's not for the competition (below the prize earrings). I just have to be contrary!!
Jeangenie - thanks!! No I don't know it at all. DH is quite good around London as his dad was born and bred in North London. So he knows how to get everywhere, but not necessarily whats there (iyswim). What I like . . . coffee would be a good start!!! Beady/crafty things (obviously) Vintagey things, beautiful things, nice smelling things. My favourite things are bargains though (and I know I won't be finding any of them in covent garden). I also know that whilst this is a weekend away from the little ones I will spend time looking in some beautiful baby/children shop at presents for them (why do we do it? They have everything and mom/dad never treat themselves). I love and adore the Covent Garden Spa products? Is it a real place I think it is - not that I would ever go to a spa (although it would be a nice idea to get pampered before the ball and be all glowing and beautiful - ha ha ha) Oh and for DH (and me ) nice pub?
I did a bit of blog hopping yesterday and left comments round and about. Wish I hadn't now as I know that means people will be looking at my very threadbare blog (I so need to work on that).

Nbg · 15/05/2008 09:07

I dont think I'm going to be able to catch up with you all

I'll go through all your blogs I think.
That will be easier.

I've put some holiday pictures on my blog here

jeangenie · 15/05/2008 09:19

CN - am at work at mo, will have a think and post later. I reckon there are lots of places you'll like (but few bargains, as you suspected)

Nbg · 15/05/2008 10:02

Ginger, I've tagged you for the page 161 meme.

I've just done mine.
