And here's yet another thread. Blimey we can chat!!!! I've been in London the past couple of days, looking forward to catching up on everything....

I'm lucky meri, I can do a few bits with the dcs around (though I don't use the sewing machine or iron when the little ones are up). But handsewing and knitting I can manage in short bursts.

My pattern arrived yesterday! I forgot to say last night. I spent most of the evening reading the instructions, making notes, and cutting out and ironing my pattern pieces. I think I will blog the pattern picture [brave emoticon]

I will have to wait until the boys go to bed tonight to do any cutting out though as I will have to spread it out on the living room floor (and hope that's big enough!!! lol) If not I shall go round to my friend's house and do it there - her living room is about four times the size of mine

I'm truly depressed about my toadstools now - I need a rethink I think. Mine are crap.

And I signed up for another swap, only to find the deadline is the same date as my ballgown deadline, and what I had in mind will not be appropriate!!! Idiot that I am . I just like making work for myself I think!!

Miaou · 01/06/2008 10:05

ok, pattern blogged. nbg, I paypalled you last night too

dizzyday07 · 01/06/2008 10:11

My toadstool swap has arrived and I'll blog later.

No crafting this weekend yet - unless you count dying and taking in DS's jeans!! (What it is to have ateenage Emo!!) Need to make some curtains later though.

Just off out carboot bargain hunting first.

Nbg - is any of your freecycle fabric stash got oriental type prints? Or is there any corderoy?

Opinions Needed - I'm involved in a Vintage (pre 80s) fabric swap (thanks to GM) and I've got this. I think its a 50s print - anybody else agree or have other thoughts?

Miaou · 01/06/2008 10:29

Definitely looks 50s to me - very nice!

Whizzz · 01/06/2008 10:40

I have answered ranting's Tag here

Do shout up if you haven't been tagged and I will out you on my tag list - I don't really read many non-MN blogs so am short of bloggers to tag

I'm finally cracking on with the dolls (AT LAST!), I've finished the Toadstool (thank god) and I've just picked dd up from a princess party.
She has come back with pink lipstick on, a pink butterfly painted on her hand and painted nails with flowers on Oh and shes also slightly hyper with a bit of an attitude
Oh well, nearly bedtime

I'm just thinking about the combined MN fair thing and there is one way round it.
If someone wanted to do one fot all of us or we all do one for all of us and we post a selection of our stuff to the nominated fair person?
Idea?

I do think the ad would be good though if we all chipped in and did one on here, or could we have our own website?????
Not sure how that would work mind.

Miaou · 01/06/2008 17:36

I think that's certainly an idea that's worth discussing, NBG

Just made another toadstool and that one won't friggin stand up either

vInTaGeVioLeT · 01/06/2008 17:43

miaou - try using cardboard to stiffen the base? or you couldfill the bottom with rice/lentils?!

Whizzz · 01/06/2008 17:45

I thought that if whoever was interested signed up - we then divide the cost of the ad between us all.
We get up some sort of Picture trail or Flicker thing (or even a blog) where we can all post photos + details of our 'wares'.
We agree on a set number of items each we can post ie 5 each. If one gets sold - the person can then post another item in its place.
Each person would then have individual contact details with their items so buyers can contact the seller directly & the seller can post out.
It may also be a good idea to consult each other on pricing for similar items so that no one gets undercut ??

What do you think??

Nbg · 01/06/2008 18:25

Sounds good whizzz.
I'm trying to get my head round it.

ranting · 01/06/2008 19:03

Actually I like all of the ideas already discussed, an away day craft fair and a blog type flog site iyswim, we could do a combination so that we can all get involved.

Miaou, have you tried curtain weights? When I couldn't get hold of stuffing pellets for an owl, the lady on the habby stall suggested using a couple of curtain weights. Worth a try.Been looking at your flikr trail and I love the skirt and jacket, what jacket pattern did you use in the end?

Nbg · 01/06/2008 19:42

Sorry Dizzy I didnt answer your question on the fabric.

The only one there is that is slightly "oriental" is a navy one with big flowers on it a birds.

I reckon it could be an 80's fabirc but could be wrong.

Let me know if you want it

Miaou · 01/06/2008 22:17

oooh curtain weights, that's an idea. I think my stalks are too tall and thin as well, which doesn't help. My swapee is sending my toadstool to me tomorrow though (!!!!) so I'm getting a bit panicked. I might pop into my supplies shop and see if I can get some of those .

Thank you for the compliments on my jacket and skirt, I must get Nick to take a pic of me wearing them and put them on my blog properly - those photos really don't do it any favours! this is the pattern I used, I made the white one in the end. unfortunately though I think I made it too big; I made a medium when I think a small would have been fine. Still, you live and learn ... I'm sure it will look ok!

See here for what I am currently making (I'm doing the red version, but in white); I've been on my knees all evening cutting out fabric and they are killing me now!!

Am v. keen on the pooling idea, but I can't commit to anything until at least the end of June as I have commissions that are going to take me up until then. I might be able to fit the odd thing in before then but I can't promise so I won't!

lucykate · 02/06/2008 00:12

hi, we've not long since got home from the lakes, m6 was quite busy going through preston which slowed us down a bit.

vintage- cool toadstools

miaou, the toadstools are tricky to get to stand up, it's all about balancing the weight in the base with the top. i've done some of mine by making the stalk wider at the bottom so it fits a bigger stone in

have had a migraine all weekend, just had some different painkillers when we got home so off to bed soon as feeling a bit dizzy!

have finally made a bird that looks like a bird, almost!

Nbg · 02/06/2008 09:53

I have to admit, I dont stuff the top of the toadstool very much.

Could that be the problem Miaou?
Also I didnt wrap the stone in stuffing, I just plonked it in because it kept fallng through the stuffing.

I havent managed to do anymore than yesterday afternoon.
Need to do lots of tidying up today. My friends coming with her little 6 week old and I have to drop dd at preschool.

Would be good if I could do a little bit more crafting though.

Gingermonkey · 02/06/2008 10:06

Dizzy - Lurve that fabric!

TB - entered your giveaway, thank you

um...what else. oh, VV - Fab toadstools, they are BRILLIANT!!!

Anyone out there know how to copy and paste using a Mac? I can't do it and I am just getting stroppy now. In fact, how do you right click, like you would on a 'normal' PC? Is there some really simple trick I am missing? I can't live without spell check and I can't right click to get it to work (so excuse spelling mistakes)

OP posts:
mistypeaks · 02/06/2008 10:24

Sorry GM - I can't remember how to do it. But I do remember I hate Macs!!! I used to have to use one at a place I worked at - Foul thing.
Hope your head is feeling better LK. DH suffers from migraines. I've just started to re-suffer . They went away when I was pg with the girls and haven't come back up until about 18 months after second one. Not as frequent, but worse when I get them. DH used migralieve, but they make the puking part worse for me which in turn keeps me awake so I can't get rid of them (I'm in the old fashioned - darkened room/earplugs/cold flannel on forehead and sleep it off camp. And the aftereffects of eating everything in the house as well!)
Whizz - for you. I hate going to craft fairs where everything is bought in. It really really annoys me. So to actually do one. I think I'd flip my lid!! Maybe its just us because we know how much effort it takes to make something beautiful and original.
I've started knitting a little scarf thing for my trip to London next week. Its in a wool calledpatons whisper Mine is 00006 -damson. It is gorgeous, but man is it hard to knit!!! I tried before and couldn't do it. But last night I decided to confront my fear and try again. It's turning out really well. 'tis a simple little thing. Just a really thin scarf just for decoration rather than warmth (although looking at the weather forecast for Sat maybe I should have made it bigger!!). Hopefully I should have finished it by then. I think the toadstool and my bag have released my mojo!!!

ranting · 02/06/2008 10:38

Have never been lucky/unlucky enough to use a Mac, must admit. Hope you're well though GM.

MP, sounds like you've released your own inner mojo there.

LK, good time?

Have seamed my berry bag and just got to sew in the lining (it is a very nice lining btw MP). Am a bit chuffed with it actually, it looks like someone other than me made it, which is about the highest compliment I can give it.

mistypeaks · 02/06/2008 10:39

I'll line the next one . Promise !!
