Checking in so I don't lose you all. I keep telling myself this place is so much more pleasant if I just stay away from the crazy.

Hiddendoor · 14/09/2024 19:00

Checking in - I've got my sewing plans mapped out for the next few weeks and need to crack on.

I've got fabric from Knighton to make goodies for me (waves print) and DD (stranger things print). Then I need to make some jogging bottoms for DD and a trench coat in boiled wool. And then use up my ever growing stash of cottons.

Phew.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/09/2024 19:59

Thanks @NutellaEllaElla I'm on a self-imposed fabric buying ban, so I will have to just enjoy watching what you lot are making for a while!

OperationalSupport · 14/09/2024 20:37

Checking in! No sewing for me this weekend as we have people over, but over the next few weeks I want to make a pair of Safiya trousers in the wool blend from CutPrice fabrics that I was influenced into by Jins (I think). And I also want to make a ‘drape dress’ in a grey marled knit now it’s almost tights and boots season.

Daffyyellow · 14/09/2024 21:18

I need new York Pinafores (having ripped the skirt of my favourite one on the chairs in Reception class last term), but with the weather forecast I probably have a week’s grace! The ripped one is going to be upcycled into a patchwork version, just as soon as I find my traced version of the pattern with the alterations I made. The new ones will be in navy and green chunky corduroy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/09/2024 07:56

I know I’m on a fabric buying ban, but I’d really like to make a pair of plain black Safiya trousers for autumn. Does anyone have any suggestions for fabric?

Also, I’ve got loads of viscose scraps. If I make a massive piece of patchwork would I need to back it with something before it’s useable as fabric?

ShoAndSew · 15/09/2024 08:33

thanks!!

kittykarate · 15/09/2024 11:15

Finished off my preholiday sewing, made a remy raglan and a Friday Pattern Company square neck top in the same pink viscose, from pound fabrics. Pictured with original enormopants, will be worn with the plain black version.

Newbie checking in! Currently crocheting a blanket for a friend's imminent baby- have paused all other projects while I focus on this. Usually flip back and forth between a few but am determined to make it for her.

That would really need lining with so many seams that would get so much wear and strain.

I've just made 2 little baby blankets because they arrive like buses.

That didn't take long to break 😁

I’m ashamed of myself. I did just find some fabric I’d forgotten I’d bought, so that will probably become a dress.

I also think I’ve got enough polka dot remnants (viscose) to try either the Remy Raglan or the Stevie top with.

Yay to rediscovered fabric!

I'm now making the jacket for me to wear to DD's wedding. Cutting out today. All pieces cut out including interfacing which I felt was a decent afternoon's work.

Excellent suggestion from one of you good folk to finish the bottom hem and sleeves with sari edging. I purchased some on etsy.

twobluechickens · 16/09/2024 07:57

Yay new thread! Thanks @NutellaEllaElla Look at that lovely long list of sewists - great to see so many people sewing!

Nothing happening here sewing wise as I’ve been on holiday, but will be finishing off my second pair of PJs tonight and then cutting out the Sewing Masin Heidi Pants to toile. Most people have made them in denim but I might try a different twill.

RainbowWife · 16/09/2024 20:59

Went to a 'needles and natter' group today and was welcomed warmly despite my terrible nerves. Will definitely return every week! Hoping for help/tips with moving on in crochet. I've made loads of different blankets, but nothing else. I'd like to make a pumpkin!

123ZYX · 16/09/2024 21:45

@RainbowWife you might like to try the crochet, knit and natter thread, in the arts and crafts board for crochet tips. The posters here are more sewing based (although I'm sure there's some talented people here who do both)

I've got an over-ambitious list to sew before Christmas

  • itch and stitch pine cover PJs (ideally 2 sets)
  • apostrophe onesie (ideally 2 sets)
  • some Christmas gift bags
  • a love notions compose robe
  • a toil of the itch to stitch Lagan coat (although this will likely end up being in the new year)
PickAChew · 16/09/2024 23:06

I know people who would do all that in a month 😁 (not me, I'm slow, though much faster with new machine)

GnomeDePlume · 17/09/2024 06:43

I'm working with silk for my jacket. It frays like anything so yesterday I finished all the edges which won't be enclosed and thinking about it, I might finish those as well.

For something important or that you intend to wear a lot, it's always worth spending the extra time on each step. You don't want to regret it later. It's something I have to keep reminding myself - once I get started, I want it finished even though I know that's not the best approach.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 17/09/2024 11:48

Yay, a new thread.

National Jelly Roll Day is 21st September, I think the 'nation' is the US and I don't know why it isn't international, nevertheless I am making a jelly roll quilt, entirely on purpose and not at all coincidental with Jelly Roll Day. Grin

CrimsonAlligator · 17/09/2024 13:43

Thanks for the new thread!

I’m on the second toile for my jeans. Most of the fit issues with the 1st one have been eliminated from the back…but somehow moved to the front. Not sure I can call that a result 😂 I could live with the new draglines, but the fit just feels really off, especially when I walk. Back to the drawing board!

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie if you live near a Abakhan, it may be worth having a look at their suiting fabric in the “fabric by weight” -section. I got some amazing stuff from there, for not a lot of money, including a silk & wool blend that I don’t actually dare to cut into..I reckon suiting could make a really classy pair of autumnal Safiya trousers as it has both some drape and some weight to it.
