My internet is still not working properly, so I am missing out on SO much. Hopefully new router will be here today (fat chance) or tomorrow. But I'm not holding my breath. I have made some cushions this week, on the blog and some other bits and bobs. Actually, not having a computer means I can do things like sew and housework - wow!!!!

Nbg · 24/04/2008 15:30

You did housework GM?

I think I need to rediscover the joys of housework soon before we all drown in mess.

The merrylegs is wonderful too. Thank you.
Katy's mum will love it

Miaou I'm glad your getting into the swap. I have my design all ready. I'm so excited about it. On paper it looks great. Whether it transfers to a great finished product is another story.

Ranting, while we're onto the swap, your swapee emailed me for your email address because she wants to get in touch with you. I passed it on without thinking. Hope thats ok.

LK, hope you've got your mojo back
How is the new Etsy collection coming on?

Ive done nothing but we're all still getting over this rotten bug.
Yesterday I went shopping with a friend for last minute holiday bits.
I bought some lurrrvely wedge sandals amoungst a million other things.
I hope dh doesnt find the reciept!
We did have to come home early though because I'd been fighting off a migrane all day and it got the better of me so I was marched up to bed at 7pm.
I feel alot better today so dh took me and the boys out for lunch to a lovely country pub.

OO my £5 bead came today and its goregous & I'm keeping it for ME It's a mini work of art & so lovely all I am going to do is hang it from a simple thong or chain. I'll take a pic when I get some decent light

ranting · 24/04/2008 20:11

I look forward to seeing that bead Whizzz, you did a lovely Turquoise bracelet sometime ago that I will have to track down, because I really, really would like you to make me it (will have to wait until I have my first pay day but want to treat myself to a bracelet from you and one from Dior.

Am excited to have been tagged GW, thank you. Have also been looking for crochet sock patterns, as would like to have a go, maybe we could do a sock CAL, found some lovely ones on Ravelry. Off to have a look at my blog.

GreebosWhiskers · 24/04/2008 20:14

GM those merrylegs dolls are fab - I'm glad dd is in her bed or she'd be harping on asking for one

Whizzz - can't wait to see your bead.

Am off to finish crocheting my custard slice now.

Whizzz · 24/04/2008 20:28

Greebos - "Am off to finish crocheting my custard slice now"

That surely wins the prize for the strangest combination of words

Whizzz · 24/04/2008 20:31

Ranting - was it a zig zaggy wire one by chance ? If so I can't find decent wire that doesn't tarnish (unless I use sterling silver). If its a different one - no problem!

Dingle · 24/04/2008 20:58

Oh my....lots of chatting and lots of crafting...you all put me to shame!!!!!

I have been trying to catch up on my NVQ this week so not a lot of crafting has been done BUT today I heard that I have won a sketch competition What a great little crafty boost when I am snowed under in text books!!!

Sorry to butt in, just wanted to share what little craft related news I have with you all!

GreebosWhiskers · 24/04/2008 21:07

ranting - a crochet sock cal would be fab

The angora yarn is amazing - I'm seriously considering using it to make some [ahem] knitted nipple tassels for the knit girls group pasties swap on Ravelry. I missed the first swap 'cos I was too chicken to take part but I'm signed up this time even if it does mean posting a pic of me wearing tassels There's a pattern for them in this book that my lovely dh bought for my birthday t'other week.

(I had to look up pasties btw 'cos when I first spotted the swap I wondered why they'd be swapping crocheted Cornish pasties - that's the difference between a UK & a US upbringing)

GreebosWhiskers · 24/04/2008 21:09

That's brilliant Dingle - well done!

chrissnow · 24/04/2008 21:39

Oh girls... You have all been busy. DH and I have been off work this week so we've been spending some quality family time. DH got to pick dd1 up from pre-school for the first time and her running up and giving him a huge hug and rabbiting about what she's made/eaten/played etc has just about made his holiday!! . There's some shit documentary on tv that he's engrossed in so I've got half an hour to kill on MN.
Had been a brill week until about an hour ago. I am a broken hearted Snowgirl . Finally got chance to make the duvet cover for dd1. I'm so not happy with it. I've never done anything so 'large' on my machine. Couldn't do the button holes so i'm gonna go buy some velcro fastening (probably eb easier for middle of the night bed changes anyway). It really got me stressed making it though. I'm not sure it's going to fit (girls in bed so I can't check yet) Not sure my stitches will hold. etc etc. All I wanted was to 'make' something beautiful for my little princess. Something that's not mass produced and in a material she picked out herself and I just feel I've cocked it up royally. It's so trivial I know, but I could cry. seriously just sit here and sob, but I won't cus DH will think I've gone mad.

On the bright side I bought 4 balls of wool (kind of a varying thickness with 'bobbles' in it?!? 'tis gorge) for £1.50 at a charity shop!! I'm making a thin 'dressy' type scarf thing for myself and it's going really well.

Oh and I tried to make a matching pjs bag to the duvet cover for dd1.... sewing machine has turned mental (think I must have offended it with all the swearing). Don't know what's wrong with it. Think I may pack it away for another 10 years!!!!

chrissnow · 24/04/2008 21:42

Oh GM ... (great cushions btw) DONT get me started on BT and foreign outsourcing.. have had the same experience. I have a very regional accent (and a very short fuse when it comes to bad customer service) ooh how you'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall on that conversation .... DH was peeing himself laughing!!

vInTaGeVioLeT · 24/04/2008 21:51

well done dingle your cards are really lovely

well i've done no crafting again but i've been to the bank today to get a credit card so that i can set up a shop on etsy to sell my buttons and vintage haberdashery in - i feel quite excited about playing shop keeper

i'm banning myself from eBay for a while as i have become quite obsessed and often find packages lying around the house that i'd forgotten i'd bought

dizzyday i've had compliments on my lovely bag and will take photo's to blog tomorrow[i've been waiting for my new pushchair to arrive so it can be seen in all it's glory in situ!!! it's so perfect for work]

gingermonkey i love the cushions and thought the lion looked so familiar and when i tucked ds up in bed i realised why

Tillyboo · 24/04/2008 22:18

I've not been on here so much lately as I have been a tad busy but I have blogged what I have been working on this week.

I've actually finished it tonight but I'm waiting for the go ahead to blog it ...

Lots of lovely work going on I have to say

GreebosWhiskers · 25/04/2008 08:54

vintageviolet - you'll have to make sure you link to your shop once it's open.

chrissnow - I hope you're feeling a bit happier with your duvet cover. I think velcro's a much better bet 'cos the buttons on most are just a fiddly pita anyway.

tilly - can't wait to see the finished article in all its glory!

I'm still crocheting my custard slice 'cos dd decided to throw a huge strop last night & I wound up having to to up to bed to settle her I did manage to blog my nipples first - don't worry, it's not as bad as it sounds

Nbg · 25/04/2008 09:38

Ooooh GM I got the merrylegs this morning and shes gorgeous!
I love her!
Thank you so so much for doing it so quickly too.
And swoon at the fabric

When my camera battery charges I'm going to blog it.

Tilly cant wait to see your piece.
Is it a collage?

Whizzz looking for ward to seeing this bead too

Dingle that Giraffe is brilliant! I'd love to do something like that with dd.
Where did you get all your supplies like the wire and what are the legs made of?
It great!

Vintage are we going to see pictures of Diesel 10 (is that Thomas the Tank related?) and George?

Greebo, your nipples are lovely

Tillyboo · 25/04/2008 09:48

Nbg - Nope, not a collage, well not really.
It's smelly ... there you go, that's a clue

Blogged Nipples - fab !
I had a knitted boob in my breast feeding clinic days and they were brilliant. Hilarious but brilliant

Nbg · 25/04/2008 09:54

Smelly?
Hmmmmmmmm............

You've got me thinking now....

GreebosWhiskers · 25/04/2008 10:22

Tilly I knitted a boob for our breastfeeding clinic when ds was tiny - that's what really got me back into constant crafting. The HV who ran the clinic was thrilled

I've blogged the merrylegs here

Gingermonkey · 25/04/2008 13:46

Bloody flippin BT have not sent my router, so now I have to wait another week, and go onto home hub wchich I didn't want in the first place - GRRRRRRRRRR!!! And breathe.

NBG - I'm so please you like her, and the brooch too. If the floppiness gets on your nerves, spray a bit of starch onto it (which, I am assuming you have handy for ironing DH's shirts? Nah, me neither )

Dior - do you TB? I just got ever so confused then (not hard, I know I know)

VV - hopefully the cushions will help the transition into big boy bed (this weekend). He has the duvet cover, he has special mummy made it cushions, he'll have a big boy bed...fingers crossed, eh? I love ikea - I could shop there all day for fabric. Which reminds me. Anyone (LK DIZZY) fancy an IKEA trip? When's Meri back?

Nbg · 25/04/2008 14:15

lol GM, of course I have a bottle of startch. I mean who doesnt?

Actually it isnt that floppy. I've pinned it onto a top and its stayed in place.
It looks fab.

What a bugger about your router.
Technology is great when its working.

Dingle · 25/04/2008 14:20

"Dingle that Giraffe is brilliant! I'd love to do something like that with dd.

Thanks Nbg!!!! If you look back at the first lot of pics you can see the size of the tubes we used for legs. We cut the box and fed the tubes through the chicken wire and they sit right into the box to give "Gerry Hula Hoop" extra stability.

The chicken wire we picked up from a local hardware shop and luckily enough DH is Health & Safety Manger for a constuction company and he got the tubes from their drawing office where they have paper on a roll! LOL...that's why we didn't start sooner....initially we only had a 3 legged giraffe!!!

Still got lots to do but, yes, it has been fun! It has really got me thinking paper mache now.

Was it on here a while back someone made a paper mache doll? Would love the link again!!
