Here we go!

I am trying to crochet my fairy but struggling with the arms at the moment. Meri, I have finished my meme, and tagged a few more people, including dizzyday and lucykate

I would buy a custom designed necklace with a focal designer lampwork bead. I'd then expect to be paying a higher price. (In fact at some point I'll probably be commisioning one of you lot to make me something I really want, but know I can never produce it. I need to come up with some way of getting my mental ramblings down on paper)

meridian · 04/04/2008 19:20

whizzz- if the piece is right then i think its worth it.lampwork beads can be totally georgeous or ugly it depends.. but I think hand made lampwork glass beads are much nicer than the cheaper ones.... and like your beautiful necklace it can make the piece and I think its a selling point becuse they are handmade not just cheap ones... not sure if i'm any help

ranting · 04/04/2008 19:21

I think if you are going down the lampwork bead route then you need to target a dearer (and wider) market. You see a lot of beaded jewellery in expensive mags that retails for a lot more than I would reasonably pay (and incidentally when I see them I always think they never look as nice as the ones I see people making on here).
I do think you COULD get people to pay more for them but, you need to find a way to market them to appeal to a more exclusive audience and I think that is the trick.

Whizzz · 04/04/2008 19:26

Thanks peeps! I'm doing my first 'proper' craft marquee at the end of May & I'm hoping it will attract more specific 'ctafty buyers' as oppose to old lady moochers
If it goes OK, I'm considering going 'legit' as a teeny business

ranting · 04/04/2008 19:29

Incidentally the craft markets at Burghley House at Stamford sell jewellery for a highish price and they seem to do business (and quite a lot of it)

Nbg · 04/04/2008 20:00

Sheesh you've all been busy!

I've had dressedupnowheretogo here today with her dd so I've been busy all day.
I have made a couple of hanging hearts though.
One for DUNTG's dd and another which will go with the craft fair lot.
Starting to panic a bit now!
Its on Wednesday and by then I need some fabric to go over the table, stamp my paper bags, write tags for the dolls, little tags for the jewellery and possibly some more stock

argggggggggggggggggggggh!

Anyway I have a question to the sewers amoungst us.
I usually have my tension set on 0 but occasionally it just decides to sew very loosely on the back so I chnge it to 4 and its fine again, but then it will go lose after a while so I have to change it back to 0 and its ok again!

Any ideas why it does that.
Its rather annoying.

lucykate · 04/04/2008 21:57

I have set up on that site you linked to Whizz. However, it wouldn't allow me to load photos in. It said they were not in a recognised format, but they are JPEGs. I am as I wanted to put the labradorite necklace on.

dizzyday07 · 05/04/2008 00:26

Dior - you should check out the link too

What a nightmare with the pen.
I did that the other day but was amazed that it didnt leak and ruin all the washing.

Dh and dd are back today so I'm franctically trying to clear up

Gingermonkey · 05/04/2008 09:22

LK - Ooooh, I think so! DH is out at the gym and then when he's back I can let you know for sure (he was wittering this morning before he left about going to see some friends in Boston Spa). I'll text you when he gets back and let you know....

Meri - you daft thing. That's what I do!!!

Gingermonkey · 05/04/2008 09:30

Chrissnow - no, I live near West Bretton - you know the Sculpture Park? Morrisons is a couple of junctions up. There's not a lot around here. And it's snowing. Can you believe it? Snow....blooming ridiculous

lucykate · 05/04/2008 10:06

gm, going to leave a message here so i can explain in full what we're doing today (am running out of credit on mobi)

we're coming by between 12.30-1ish on the way to pick this thing up, al has to be there at 1 ish, but it's not far from you (near dewsbury?), so he could drop us (as in me, ds & dd) at yours, then nip to collect the underpinner, then come back to pick us up, or, if later on is better for you, we can all go and pick up the underpinner first, then come via yours on the way back, would be about 2-2.30ish, which works best for you?

i'll check back here before we go, just sorting car seats, getting ready now, hope to leave by 10.30

meridian · 05/04/2008 10:10

I have now finished my garnet chip necklace and it looks nice. However, camera screen is on the blink again, so I'm not sure what the photos are like yet. Will blog once I have seen them. I am currently making a bracelet for my mum's friend. She liked the one my mum had and mum asked me to make one for her too.

meridian · 05/04/2008 13:19

I have just blogged some of my older cards, seeing as my blog name does make me appear to be a card-maker .

MrsDiorKeanuReeves · 05/04/2008 13:21
