MrsDiorKeanuReeves · 05/04/2008 13:32

Yes, lots of water is good advice. Hope he feels much better soon - poor thing.

meridian · 05/04/2008 14:19

have done a last blog of the bracelet i made last night here

and this onyx keyring i made for my dad

Miaou · 05/04/2008 16:14

Oh I love the keyring! Very masculine.

Funnily enough, I was just thinking I would like a new keyring soon (nothing wrong with the one I've got though ). One with a really nice stone would be lovely I think.

I have had a stressful afternoon with dd2 being a pita (for which she has just apologised). I feel bad though because I have just been on at her all afternoon, and my kids are generally very well-behaved and thoughtful, so it got me down a bit, don't have to do a lot of telling-off here. So I am now hiding in the computer room (aka tiny cupboard off the living room!) with a cup of tea and a box of Quality Street that dh bought me last night!

Anyone see the functional felt swap? I can't stop thinking about it, and am seriously wondering about taking part ... but I've only done one thing before (and not even finished it yet!!) I have an idea for my next project and it would definitely fit the brief ... I think I am going to give it a few more days' thought before committing myself to it. I have just emailed Oxfam offering to be co-ordinator for my region for the giant baby blanket so I don't want to over-commit myself!

Tillyboo, your Tilly doll is made, am just doing the clothes now - will email you soon!

I love that keyring too. Very chic and manly.

Whizzz · 05/04/2008 17:51

I'm going to post a link to a website that does fabby (& not hugely expensive) conversions of kids drawings onto key rings. I got one for DHs birthday & it's sooooo good. Trouble is I can't do it yet as the keyrings aren't actually pictured on the website

meridian · 05/04/2008 19:47

doing better now.. posted on the health thread... 3/4 to 4/5 ths packed...

going to relax the rest of the night now.. DH collecting a chinese as I type...

I'm quite chuffed with the keyring... I considered repeatedly having one of my drawings made into a t-sirt for my dad... but I couldn't choose... then the idea popped into my head as i have a bunch of those square onyx beads cluttering up my bead box.. have only used them for one bracelet as they are so bit.. I think it looks fab.. my dad should like it..

DH home .. might check in to say by in am...

ranting · 05/04/2008 19:53

Love that keyring Meri, have a fabulous time.
Nbg, just read your query about the sewing machine, could be the timing, how old is the machine? You might need to get it serviced.

Whizzz · 05/04/2008 19:55

I've also added pics of mine & Nbgs Vintage swaps to the MN blog

lucykate · 05/04/2008 22:50

meri, just seen your thread about ds, poor thing, hope you're all feeling a bit calmer now you know what it is. hope you've managed to get all packed too!

well, we've not long since been home, dh is happy as he's got a new (to him, anyway!) large chunk of machinery in the garage. and we stopped in at ikea on the way back, bit of shopping, swedish meatballs, dc's in their pj's, before driving home.

and can i just say thank you to gm for putting up with us!, and the whole gm family for their hospitality . gm's home is beautiful, fantastic wallpaper.

i've come home to custard coloured woodchip , not quite in the same league!

meridian · 06/04/2008 08:08

ok ladies.. I just wanted to say bye before we go... I may pop up once or twice on the computer.. at least to check my e-mail... I have thsi feeling it will be a beautiful sumery April like last year.. and then turn dark stormy when we return.

I have a few adresses in my note book.. so will attempt to send postcards.. but i'm usually quite forgetful about postcards... oh I buy them.. but some how forget to write them out and just end up bringing them back..

Happy crafting!

I have my travel ball of wool and small knitting needles in the case, a book, a note book... just need a tatty or crafty magazine...

Gingermonkey · 06/04/2008 10:19

Bye Meri!!! Have a good time, and most of all - relax

LK - it was lovely having you yesterday, I had a really nice day! Thank you for coming! It was really nice to meet DH too.
I'm everso that you think my house is lovely (it was tidied especially!).

Oh, and I so agree on the garage/studio conversion project.

Miaou · 06/04/2008 14:09

Have a lovely time Meri (she says belatedly)

at the GM/LK meetup - I bet no-one ever makes it up here to see me (I can see the Orkneys from the end of my road, that's how far north I am )

Hi all - not done any crafting this weekend but did visit a 'craft village' thing today. mass produced rin of the mill stuff for the vast majority. There was one nice jewellery shop with a few nice bits in & a lovely 'Sale' bowl of stuff! I bought myself a stonking hallmarked silver ring - fabbo & only £10 !
I did walk round the place though & think how fabby it would be if all us crafty MNers had our own little shops in the courtyard !

dizzyday07 · 06/04/2008 18:06

Miaou - I'd love to come visit - my uncle lives on Orkney

dizzyday07 · 06/04/2008 18:11

No crafting here. I tried to get on with VV's vintage swap yesterday but DD had other ideas.

Today we went swimming at Waterworld, and then stopped at a pub on the way back for eats - we shouldn't have bothered!!

Kids are off now for 2 weeks so I will have to see how much I can get done especially as DH is off to USA too.

I have been "planning" a fabric doll - but really need to make prototype to get all your opinions

Gingermonkey · 06/04/2008 20:14

miaou - you may find if any of us decided to 'pop' in we'd stay for a week

Dizzy - have finally emailed you a pic by DD. If you need any doll advice, let me know - I'm always happy to help out! (if I can)

ranting · 06/04/2008 20:19

Miaou, got your pattern, thank you and have emailed you a reply.
I've almost finished the GM swap, the GM dd thang is done though,(finished yesterday) and I'm absurdly pleased with it.
Won't have time to make it down the PO tomorrow though, meeting some friends for catch up , soooo, Tuesday morning I will pop something in the post for GM (and her dd) and a little something for Nbg too.

vInTaGeVioLeT · 06/04/2008 21:41

hey dizzy - why shouldn't you have bothered? was the swimming place rubbish or the pub food?

Gingermonkey · 07/04/2008 08:09

hoorah!!!!

dizzyday07 · 07/04/2008 08:53

It was the food that was rubbish and although the swimming place was great for DS (14) it wasn't so good for DD (3)

dizzyday07 · 07/04/2008 08:54

GM - received it!!

chrissnow · 07/04/2008 08:59

Hmm - Been knitting away. Just a little 4 stitch thingie to practice different stitch formations (? I know what I mean . Have ended up with something that looks like a knitted bracelet/cuff with a ribbed effect. Now I really rather like it but don't know what to make it into!!! (Any ideas)
Also come up with inspiration for my linen eco bags and how to cover them!! Hoorah. Just need a little material and quite a bit of time I think!

Question for the expert sewers. I'm a bit miffed at the mo. Girls both had some money for easter. dd2 needed some dressy shoes (brill got a lovely pair for a fiver in a mega brantano sale.) dd1 needs a spare duvet cover. Mothercare are cheating robbing buggers!! (apologies if any of you work for them!) Their cot/duvet is of such a size that no other duvet cover fits it. So you have to buy mothercare's own. I refuse to spend 30 quid for a duvet cover (or alternatively there was one for 20 quid but I wasn't keen - so no way). I figure a couple of metres of fabric I actually like will be loads cheaper so I'll make one. Is it really going to be as easy as I think?! Or am I setting myself up for a spectacular fall?

Miaou · 07/04/2008 09:00

ooh really dizzy? GM, you are most welcome to our house, but there are already six of us living in a small three-bed terrace, so you might be a little - um, squashed

Ranting, have written the hair instructions now - remind me and I will send you them when you are ready!

Very little crafting gone on this w/e, but have been having fun with the dds - here!

OP posts:
Miaou · 07/04/2008 09:04

Chrissnow - make your knitted cuff a bit longer and it's a dolly scarf, a bit longer still and it's a handle for one of the dd's bags!

Re the sewing - you may find you can't get material much cheaper anyway, but how much nicer to make your own! Measure the duvet cover you have got, add 1/2 inch all round for seams apart from the end with the poppers on, add an inch there (if you are confident about doing buttonholes you could put buttons on instead!). Make sure you oversew the edges though otherwise it will begin to fray when it goes through the wash. Can't really go wrong - it's only a square!!
