Oh my, the last thread got full! Hope you all find me. The title is rubbish.

Anyway. I'm off to decorate the thread.

My MIL loved her hat btw. She feels the cold really badly and I knitted it with yarn held double, so it's super-warm!

WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally · 06/01/2024 16:55

@StillNiceCardigan I think you might need a name change to BloodyEpicJumper!

I’ve almost finished one of my WIPs, just need to sew some ends in. I have started two more projects though, a sweater vest for DD and a blanket. But I’m going to try and get a few more WIPs complete. We had a bit of a nightmare as DD’s nursery went bust and they email us 1pm on the Friday between Christmas and New Year. We’ve got her into a new nursery but it’s a lot more money so I’m wishing I had a stack of finished projects I could try to sell to build up a bit of a reserve.

StillNiceCardigan · 07/01/2024 18:28

@WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally I'll have to knit a fancy cardigan next to keep my name! The nursery situation sounds stressful glad you got something sorted out.

Happy New Year everyone!

@StillNiceCardigan fabulous sweater!

I got two things started over the hols. I find it really difficult to get things started once we're at school so I needed to set something up or no knitting would be done. Back today and dreading it.

bruffin · 08/01/2024 09:41

Happy new year everyone.

Hello and happy new year everyone!

Wow so many exciting projects on the go – my apologies if I miss someone out!
@StillNiceCardigan That looks exciting, love the colours and I see they also have the pattern as a cardigan so I may need to add that to my queue.

I’ve just started my own adventure in top-down one-piece knitting. I’m making the Jella Cardigan picture of my colours attached – most of the highlight colours will be in a band at the bottom of the cardigan body. I have just reached past the shoulders, so it’s all plain stocking stitch in blue for now.

@AllProperTeaIsTheft that looks like a very cosy hat, I love the chunky cabling.

@bruffin that’s a nice cowl, what’s the pattern please? Does the colourwork effectively make it “double” thus nice and warm?

And finally, I have finished my Musselburgh hat – it’s just about big enough to wear with the upturned brim, though a bit short for my liking. I made it as long as I could but only had one skein which was not quite enough really for an adult L on 2.5mm needles. But I can wear it flat under my cycling helmet so it’s perfect really. And colour is much deeper/darker, my phone is hopeless in capturing it.

@GlowWine
The pattern is free on Raverly

The Academic cowl by Amy Castillo and yes it is double thickness because of the colourwork. I was going to line it with Jersey but didnt bother in the end.
I love the colour of your hat!

Hello everyone!! Can I join? I’m just starting to crochet a hippopotamus toy for my girls (one each). I haven’t completed a crochet project in a verrry long time so I’m hoping that this is the one that breaks the spell! They are made up of many many African flowers and I’m loving it so far.

Help, beginner here, I'm trying to crochet a baby blanket. The first cluster needs to be worked into the first chain space but I only have 3, and not one near my hook? I thought i should have 4 chain spaces but i only have 3, i think. I also can't seem to pull the end to close the hole in the middle.

Hi @longpathtohappiness it looks like you haven't finished that first round with a slip stitch, which will create the last chain space. Did the pattern say to do that?

Did you start with a magic ring? You do have to pull quite hard to close the circle.

Hi @Nocakeinthishouse - the flowers are gorgeous! Where is the pattern from? I'd be intrigued to see a hippo made of flowers- it sounds amazing!

longpathtohappiness · 12/01/2024 21:02

CrochetBug second attempt

Yes I did a magic ring to start. Yes pattern does say do a slip stitch. Seems I forgot!

Second attempt seems a bit better but when I go to a do double crochet into the first chain space, leaves a big gap (hope that makes sense). Will do a third attempt tomorrow as traitors is calling

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 12/01/2024 22:33

@longpathtohappiness it looks to me as though you started that round with a 3chain which acts as the 3rd stitch of your final cluster when you have gone all the way around, so from the point you're at in your last picture, you've done the chain to make your fourth and final corner space, then I'd expect you to need to do 2 trebles, then join with a slip stitch into the third chain at the top of the original first 3chain you made. I hope that makes sense Grin. Can you post a picture of the instructions?

CrochetBug · 12/01/2024 22:56

Yes I agree with @AllProperTeaIsTheft

Yes, like @AllProperTeaIsTheft you've missed 2 DC on the first round. If you do those and then slst join to the 3rd chain then you'll be ready to start round 2 with a ch3.

OP posts:
longpathtohappiness · 13/01/2024 11:28

CrochetBug can you tell me that again a bit more slowly!! When do I another DC? pattern says go into the circle 3 times, are you saying that 3 plus the one you have already done? I was doing 3 including the 1 already done. Hopefully that makes sense. My brain is scrambled 😁

CrochetBug · 13/01/2024 11:33

You've missed these 2dc that I've circled. You should end up with 4 lots of 3 dc. (Well 3 lots of 3, plus one of 2c and the initial chain)

CrochetBug I think I get it, will try again later

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/01/2024 20:38

Let me know if it still didn't make sense, @longpathtohappiness. I am happy explain in a more step-by-step way if needed. I'm a teacher and I run a lunchtime kmitting & crochet club. I pretty much spend every Weds lunch time explaining granny squares to people!

CrochetBug · 13/01/2024 20:56

Thanks @AllProperTeaIsTheft I'm crap at explaining! I could draw a diagram though if it's needed.

I'm good at explaining, but crap at drawing diagrams Grin.

RedDiamond · 14/01/2024 12:25

I am at a loss as to what to Google. I am knitting a jumper for an energetic 5 year old. It has a character on it. Consequently I need to weave lots of different colours back and forth. I am concerned that the 5 year old may accidently pull one of the threads. I seem to remember from years ago that you could get something to put over the weaving? Or can I cut up an old t shirt and stitch a square on?

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 14/01/2024 12:29

@RedDiamond you could sew something over it, or you could just weave in the carried colour every couple of stitches so there won't be any snaggable floats.
