Oh my, the last thread got full! Hope you all find me. The title is rubbish.

Anyway. I'm off to decorate the thread.

@SparkleHard , I feel for you with a join unscrewing in the middle of a complicated lace and cable row.

I don’t have a KnitPro interchangeable set, but looking at the pictures of Karbonz, which I love, there does seem to be much more of a “hump” around the transition point with the interchangeables when compared with the fixed ones. It might be that they are showing differently sized needles, though.

Brands vary a lot. My favourite interchangeable sets are Dyakcraft and Lykke. I used to like Addis before I bought those. My first set was a Denise, which I really don’t recommend.

Here’s a picture of the size 4 Dyakcraft Northern Lights interchangeables I’m currently using, with a very smooth join. Luckily I don’t have a mortgage to pay.

I hope you get on better with the fixed ones.

I'd love fixed circulars with the needle from the Addi turbo lace ones and the cord of the Chiagoo. That would be perfect.

LancreWowhawk · 06/10/2023 13:08

I finally made myself finish my scrappy basket last night. It's needed just one more round for ages and I couldn't quite make myself do it because I loved making it so much.

10 minutes after finishing, I realised I hadn't actually made a basket, after all. How silly of me!

Ahhh very cute @LancreWowhawk

SparkleHard · 06/10/2023 13:31

You made something even better than that @LancreWowhawk 🥰

My fixed circular has arrived and I’m pleased to report it’s solved about 80% of the problem. It’s so nice to not constantly have to push stitches over the join! Thanks for all your advice everyone.

I finished Taylor!

I have knitpro symfonie intetchangeable which i love. Knit everything on them. I find making sure they are really tight using the pin. I also got a free set of knitpro zings but prefer the wood needles rather than metal

WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally · 06/10/2023 20:52

@LancreWowhawk that’s the sign of a successful project. My dog stole my first completed big blanket. Took me bloody forever and the dog knocked it pretty much the moment I sewed the last end in.

Hooray, I have finished my latest pair of socks and am very happy with the result, they're comfy to wear.

Is that the Arne and Carlos Gaute sock? I hate turning heels.

GlowWine · 06/10/2023 21:45

@Freepublictransport No, it's a simple free Ravelry pattern called Banana socks.
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bananen-socken

Very straightforward so I changed it to toe-up as that's my default sock mode.

CrochetBug · 06/10/2023 21:56

@GlowWine lovely socks. I've only ever made socks with a heel (plus I can't knit) so they look fascinating to me!

@SparkleHard that yarn is beautiful! I've got loads of mini skeins of sock yarn, but almost think they're too pretty for socks. Plus it's often not machine washable and I haven't got time for hand washing socks.

@SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound congrats on the job.

@Cephalaria welcome. That's a beautiful poncho. I love the colours.

@LancreWowhawk cute overlord cat. I don't have pets to steal my work (only turtles and they can't leave their tank without my help). But I do have a niece who wants everything I make, or a smaller version of it!

@bruffin I love that cardigan. I would make one to wear myself, but I don't have time and wouldn't want every one commenting on it being a TS jacket.

I was going to upload a photo of Sophie, but MN is being shit as usual.

Me too @bruffin !

Hello all - I haven't been around much due to annoying levels of busy-ness preventing me doing much crafty stuff, but I put my foot down and went to my guild meeting on Saturday, which was lovely!

Adorable cat basket, @LancreWowhawk . And Taylor looks fantastic, @bruffin ! I have not much progress to report, as usual. Just a bunch more rows of the green cable jumper and a couple of hours of spinning done. It's half-term next week, but we are off to York for a few days to see dd at uni, and I have piles of work to do. I'll try to fit some knitting in though!

AngeloMysterioso · 17/10/2023 00:42

How hard is it to change your crochet technique? I learned watching Bella Coco mostly but never got on with the whole catch the yarn with the hook thing, mostly I loop it over with my other hand almost like I’m knitting. It does the job but I’m constantly losing my crojo as I’m mega slow and it takes me aaaaaaaaaages to get anything finished. I’d love to be able to do it “properly” and work on projects quicker but I feel like I’m sort of set in my ways now, and every time I try my stitches are all loose and sloppy and it looks awful.

NonMiDispiace · 17/10/2023 07:03

Me too @AngeloMysterioso , I cannot get the hang of doing it the traditional way.

CrochetBug · 17/10/2023 07:41

I crochet like that too @AngeloMysterioso and @NonMiDispiace . So do most of the crocheters I follow on Instagram.

Weirdly I can't knit because I can't work out how to hold the yarnHmm

bruffin · 17/10/2023 07:42

Im very awkward crocheting as well, but then i can only knit english

LancreWowhawk · 17/10/2023 10:03

I can't say about changing crochet technique, but I changed my handwriting in my 40s, to remove a letter formation quirk I developed as a teenager because I thought it was cool and was an idiot because I didn't want to badly influence DD, and that wasn't too had. I think it's probably just practice, but you'll need to make yourself do it.

Question! DD needs a Gryffindor scarf for halloween. How quickly do you reckon I could make one? I think just simple rows of yellow and maroon stripe in UK treble in an aran yarn would work up pretty quickly, wouldn't it? I just don't want to take it on and then fail and have to buy one anyway!

Uncooperativefingers · 17/10/2023 10:23

Can I join? 👋

A few years of house moves and wedding planning has sucked up all my crafting energy, but now I am somewhat sorted, I'm keen to get going again. I predominantly crochet (amigurumi), embroider and cross stitch.

This cold weather has made me stumble across mosaic crotchet blankets, so think that will be my project for the winter. I love bold graphic prints (not a granny square fan!) so this is right up my street! Has anyone else tried any mosaic crochet and willing to offer any tips?

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 17/10/2023 14:17

I'm not a fast crocheter (or knitter) but I hold the yarn the same way Bella Coco does. I had no idea some people wrap the yarn instead like a knitter! I hold the yarn in a similar way for knitting, but in the other hand (wrap it round my little finger and then put it over the top of my pointer finger).

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 17/10/2023 14:18

Theoretically I can do that with both hands at once for knitting with two colours for fairisle, but I'm so slow at it that it's actually faster if I drop each colour and pick the other one up!

I’m doing a GYHO Sholach blanket at the moment but I’m only a few rows in- that said, I’m making it to go on my bed so it’s about 3 x the width of the pattern! The patterns can be a bit fiddly but it’s only double or treble crochet stitches so if you’re quicker than me (which almost everyone is) then you should be fine.

StillNiceCardigan · 17/10/2023 20:01

My WIP feels out of control at the moment. I really want to start something lovely and fair isle but I have half made things all over the place including a patchwork Christmas table runner. I need to at least finish one thing before I add more.

Have had some exciting news this week though, DD1 has got engaged😀

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 22/10/2023 07:36

Thanks @CrochetBug! Smile

Oh lovely news @StillNiceCardigan, congrats to them!

Welcome @Uncooperativefingers! I’m not a great crocheter so I’m no help I’m afraid Grin I do know they look great though!

It’s really wintery now and I could really do with a cardigan or slipover for work but I resent the idea of paying £40 or more for acrylic for the ones I’ve seen that I like. Plus I’m skint after buying office clothes! I think that’s my next project, I’ve got wool in my stash that will be enough I think.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 22/10/2023 08:05

Awww - how lovely @StillNiceCardigan !
My WIP is a bit out of control too. I really want to get DD's jumper and MIL's hat done by Christmas, and that's going to be hard enough without adding any nice little Christmassy projects, however tempting they are!

I've never tried mosaic crochet @Uncooperativefingers - I don't really know what it is Blush <goes off to Google>.

The little 11 year-old newbies at my club are finally getting somewhere with their crocheting. It's really hard because we only have 30 mins, so by the time we've got all the stuff out it's not long! We finally made it to the stage of learning to do treble crochet stitches, so we should be able to progress with the hranny square now!
