Ooops - we've filled the thread, best start a new one, eh?!

OP posts:

my mum phoned earlier to tell me that my cousin's 4yr old daughter had an accident yesterday and cut off one of her fingers she had to be operated on today and luckily she seems to be fine - i've not 'phoned up as i'm assuming they need time to calm down and get back to normal - i was so upset that when i told my dd(13yrs) i burst into tears - i do not do crying.

meridian · 21/03/2008 18:35

vintage- thats awful... did they save the finger? how did it happen.. I have fears of DS doing something stupid and that happening.. for you

lucykate · 21/03/2008 18:46

anything here look familiar??

vInTaGeVioLeT · 21/03/2008 18:51

a door slammed on it - yes they saved the finger it was still hanging on/off - but i don't know the details yet i hope it will still function - i slammed my finger in the door twice as a kid but never so much as broke them and i remember how awful that was and so painfull - my dad cut the ends of two fingers at work, he was a wood machinist but they couldn't mend them as TMI ALERT they were turned to mincemeat but it was agony for him [so many nerve endings]

anyway keep everything crossed for Scarlet x

Nbg · 21/03/2008 18:58

Oh no LK!
Are you going to do anything about it?
They are exectly the same!

VV, poor girl!

GM, I've just been googling local craft fairs for something to do this weekend and came across a site that does a regular fair/market in Leeds every 2nd and fourth Sunday of every month.
Its at the back of the Corn Exchange and its called Mosaic.

Having a look at the site and I think your "stuff" would be great there.

Not to mention that it would be pretty busy, well known and regular.

Gingermonkey · 21/03/2008 19:38

VV - oh God, poor little thing. I feel a bit queasy, not good with the thought of blood. I hope she's ok. Keep us posted, won't you?

LK - well, I'll be darned. She's been making them since she was a little girl apparently. Yeah right. That is awful - what are you going to do? I bet you're fuming (I am for you!)

Nbg - that's the one I do (when I can be bothered!). It is pretty busy people wise but hit and miss money wise (for everyone, or at least everyone I've spoken to). I think I'm holding off until the weather warms up. It's a nice market, lots of regulars and a really nice feel.

It looks fab

Gingermonkey · 21/03/2008 19:42

It is, and if you ever go let me know coz I'll meet you for a cup of tea and a wander about (if you like, of course, not if you don't....)

Oh Vintage, sorry to hear about your cousins dd, keep us updated.
LK, she's a bit naughty, how did you find that, did someone tip you off?
Thanks everybody, it's a booking clerk, won't need child care as my day will overlap with dh's and I'm really looking forward to it, even getting back to the commute. It's back at the bottom to start off with but, I managed to work my way up to finance last time, can do it again (if I can be bothered). Just be nice to buy luxurious wool again!
Have finished dd's crocheted owl today (used the leftover wool from my GM cupcake, am on a stash busting mission), am really pleased with it and will post pics when I can get to the PC (ds hogs it most of the time).

Nbg · 21/03/2008 19:46

Oh i will most definately.
Its been nearly a year since I've been to Leeds.

Gingermonkey · 21/03/2008 19:47

i wanna see it

lucykate · 21/03/2008 20:20

vv, owww, ouch, poor thing!

re, the owl, tis a bit tricky given that i have yet to actually start selling anything, my won fault for being too lazy slow i suppose! however, the owl was designed initially, not for me but for coats, and all going well, will be launched as a craft kit later this year, so while i can make and sell as many owls as i like, the pattern actually belongs to coats. i have emailed etsy about it, and now have to follow their procedure which is basically, convo the other seller, wait for a reply, then fill in a form if the reply is not satisfactory, basically, sort it out amongst yourselves, only contact us about it as a last resort.

ho hum, suppose i should be flattered, they are a copy, but a crap copy, dd could have done better. the insulting thing is she's even sold one of them , a fool and their money are soon parted

bizarrely, i was actually reading this post on pretty little things last night all about copying!

rantinghousewife · 21/03/2008 20:22

Ahem I should point out here LK that my crocheted owl looks nothing like your, much higher quality softees.

lucykate · 21/03/2008 20:23

and yes, someone did tip me off, a very kind craft blogger from the usa emailed be with the link

followed by someone else, with the same link, and then another!

rantinghousewife · 21/03/2008 20:26

Are you going to contact her? I would.

Nbg · 21/03/2008 20:26

I did wonder whether Etsy had a procedure for things like this.

I hope they help you resolve it.

lol at inferior owly woman

vInTaGeVioLeT · 21/03/2008 20:48

oh my god - lucykate i'd be hopping mad if i was you - what a feckin' cheek for you.
Will anchor sue her arse off for pretending it's her own pattern?

the copies on that link are jawdroppingly cheeky too.

do you actually get a copyright on your designs and if so how expensive easy is it?

jeangenie · 21/03/2008 20:57

hello everyone...have just had a lovely half hour catching up on this thread and everyone's blogs - what great work has been going on

LK - on your behalf...good luck with sorting it out

VV - for your relly - hope she is ok (and still no envelope in post to you, promise once w/e is over it s on its way, RL got in my way this week)

RHW - congratulations - brilliant news - is it full time?

I've not done much - was so tired last night (DH was working) I took both DDs into bed with me at 7.30, put on DD1's story cd of james and giant peach and we all went to sleep together. I woke up at 7.30 this morning and couldn't get out of bed until 10. SOme kind of weird sleeping sickness, or possibly too many late craftin'n'bloggin' nights...

we are off to "the country" to stay with some friends tomorrow (DD2 asked if we were going by plane or ferry and looked very crestfallen when we said by car ) it was supposed to be tennis and idyllic picnics in the garden but think it will be freezing our arses off in snowy egg hunt instead...cue many sneaky alcoholic warmers uppers me thinks...

we did do the painting of the blown eggs today...every single one of them except DD2s fell and cracked in the excitement but we did persevere...DD1 got very bent out of shape at not being able to paint as "perfectly" (ahem) as me, which caused some upset...but it was fun...egg blowing technique

rantingwageslave · 21/03/2008 21:22

JG, 25 hours a week, so I hope to make it to one of your iknit nights!
Don't start until May, so before I do, I plan to spend a day at the V&A (haven't been for ages), take ds to Tate Britain and Modern (we did The Modern in the last half term but he wants to go without dd in tow, so he can look at the art properly. He starts his GCSEs in September and one of them is Art and he's planning on Art College, so might as well indulge a healthy obsession). Attend one of the Tuesday morning iknit groups and have an all day charity shop mooch in London, going wherever takes my fancy. And I want to have a look at the cambridge craft fair but, as that's held on a Sunday, I can, in theory, do that anytime.
