That looks great @lucysmam.

@Fairislefandango glad you had a reason to say no. Not that you need one!

Fairislefandango · 26/02/2022 07:58

Ds' socks coming along well. I love this yarn!

That's pretty galling @Fairislefandango. Glad you had a comeback. Socks are looking great. I like you pink stopper things too.

Was the bride pleased @lucysmam?

lucysmam · 26/02/2022 08:50

🤣 @MerylSqueak funnily enough, only one of the little girls in our class wore it the day after. She clung to it when she took it off to tidy up too.

@Fairislefandango that looks lovely. I never understood how socks were knitted but seeing yours laid out like that, it makes sense!

The 'construction' of pretty much any item from a ball of wool still always feels a bit like magic to me, but that goes double for socks! However many pairs I make, I still stop and stare when I've 'turned the heel' and marvel at how it works Grin.

I need to branch out in my sock-making though - this is the 8th pair I've made, and I've never ventured beyond the basic pattern in my beloved sock book. Next time I'm going to either try one of the fancier patterns in the book (with a bit of cable or lace) or have another go at the very first socks I ever tried (and failed at) before I learned from the book. They're called Hermione's socks (from Ravelry).

NiceCardigan · 26/02/2022 11:18

I like the look of the Hermione socks Fairislefandango I love a good sock!

I’m having a crochet phase at the moment. My stash was getting out of hand so it’s all from that. The flowers will be a bag and the squares are going to be an attempt at a cardigan. The hexagons round the flowers are a bit wobbly but a bit of blocking will hopefully fix that (I couldn’t be bothered to block them individually before joining them up)

They look lovely, @NiceCardigan! I've got a bunch of crochet squares hanging around and I don't know what to do with them! I was originally going to make a blanket, but I'm very sporadic with making the squares and really don't need another blanket!

I have been focusing on my knitting lately and haven't crocheted for ages. I'll be making another one of those scrap yarn basketsfor dsis' birthday at the beginning of May though- I should probably startthat, as I'm so slow at getting anything finished!

MerylSqueak · 26/02/2022 14:53

They look great @NiceCardigan

Can anyone recommend me a nice soft DK yarn to make DD a hot water bottle. So difficult to choose without being able to squidge. She doesn't really like man made fibres so a low content of that would be great.

The pattern is for DK but I am not sure it will insulate enough. What do you think ?

MerylSqueak · 26/02/2022 14:54

This [[https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/diamond-patchwork-hottie-cover]]

is the pattern she likes. Ideally in shades of mint green!

Fairislefandango · 26/02/2022 15:00

How about Drops Merino, @MerylSqueak? I'm a big fan of Drops brand for affordable natural yarn. The merino has quite a few greens here

sophs29 · 26/02/2022 15:14

That yarn is gorgeous @Fairislefandango it also looks very neat!

@NiceCardigan am I right in remembering you're an excellent knitter and new to crochet? Your creations look great!

@MerylSqueak the link isn't working but good taste in colour theme ideas, I love green; especially mint green!

Fairislefandango · 26/02/2022 15:55

Thanks @sophs29 - I think my socks always look neater than anything else I make. Not sure why!

MerylSqueak · 26/02/2022 16:12

This is the address without a clicky link

I love Drops yarn too. I've never used the Merino. Do you know how soft it is?

InTheNightWeWillWish · 26/02/2022 18:16

@MerylSqueak I like the Novita yarn. This looks like it’s a minty green colour - www.lovecrafts.com/en-gb/p/novita-nalle. I’ve used some of the aran yarn before for a hat and it came up nice. I’ve got a ball of DK in and it’s equally soft and squishy but I’ve not done anything with it yet to know how it works up.

Fairislefandango · 26/02/2022 19:59

I haven't used the merino, but the descriptions and a couple of reviews I saw said it was very soft and gentle on the skin.

lucysmam · 26/02/2022 21:43

Rex's face is in place. I'd have stuffed it & finished it off tonight but I've run out of steam...we've been for residential stuff for dd1, I've painted a Zog peg puppet, and I've done some small repairs, and mentally planned tomorrow, as well as usual Saturday housey stuff. I'm knackered!

Awe he looks lovely!

Thank you for your suggestions about yarn @fair@Fairislefandango@InTheNightWeWillWish (That's an amazing green ) I think it's going to be hard to find shades of green which blend tastefully!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 26/02/2022 22:21

@MerylSqueak I know I’ve recommended it before but the deramores DK has a huge selection of greens that blend well together. I’ve used all of them in my MIL’s blanket (this was taken some time ago and it’s a bit further along now). I needed a few other colours too but I personally think they work well together. The green tea colour in deramores DK is lovely. I think it’s my favourite green colour. The downside is that it’s 100% acrylic - although lovely and soft.

MerylSqueak · 26/02/2022 22:31

That's gorgeous!

I've been looking for Deramores just now coincidentally and can't seem to find it. Any ideas?

Fairislefandango · 26/02/2022 22:32

Deramores doesn't exist any more! It closed down in January.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 26/02/2022 22:55

Deramores site doesn’t exist anymore but you can still get their brand wool from love crafts.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 26/02/2022 22:59

Deramores also have a merino line and cotton DK line, although the don’t have a big selection of greens in those lines. The baby wool has a nice selection of greens but it is acrylic again.

NiceCardigan · 27/02/2022 12:54

Yes @sophs29 I’m new to crochet and trying to get a bit better.

CrochetBug · 27/02/2022 13:42

@MerylSqueak Stylecraft Special DK. Sheepjes colour crafter and Hayfield books DK all have a nice selection of greens. Those 3 brands also work well together , the Sheepjes is slightly thinner I think but for a hot water bottle cover it would be fine.

@NiceCardigan they look great. Well done.

@lucysmam Rex is cute and I love Zog. It was one of DS2s favourite books.

DS2 asked for a frog hat. I made a perfectly fine one but me being me decided it wasn't good enough. I'm now on attempt 3 Grin

Has anyone used Drops Belle? It's a linen blend and I thought it might make a nice summer top.

lucysmam · 27/02/2022 17:51

@CrochetBug I've never heard of Zog until 2 weeks ago Blush I think I'll enjoy story time though; he's cute 🤣

I've done spoon Zog too..
