Very nice @NiceCardigan

I love blue and burnt orange@Fairislefandango. There's quite a lot of white in your gloves though and I'm not sure about that. Could you reduce the amount of white maybe? Or perhaps I'm wrong. Could you post a pic of the colours together?

I'm supposed to be off to London tomorrow but all the trains were cancelled today. I'll have to wait and see tomorrow but the kids are v sad. Sad

CrochetBug · 21/02/2022 22:37

@Fairislefandango five nights at Freddies is a game. I think. I've never played it. It wasn't me that asked for a pattern though Wink
Could you do the hat to match the mittens and add the orange as a ribbed brim?

@NiceCardigan that looks lovely.

I've spent most of the afternoon in counting corner. Why is that you don't notice mistakes for 3 rows and then have to frog the whole lot. And then continue to miscount. And now my hands have given up. I could hardly even hold a fork at dinner time Hmm

@MerylSqueak I hope your trip goes ahead.

Fairislefandango · 22/02/2022 12:44

@Fairislefandangofive nights at Freddies is a game. I think. I've never played it. It wasn't me that asked for a pattern though.

So it wasn't, @CrochetBug.

@MerylSqueak - I'm wondering about reversing the blue and white for the hat?

InTheNightWeWillWish · 22/02/2022 12:58

lucysmam it looks like there are a few video tutorials but I don’t know if those are the characters you are looking for.

Meryl the wind seems to have died down here and so hopefully you made your trip today.

I’ve finished the blanket for my friend (the blue striped one). It’s probably one of my favourite projects I’ve completed. I actually don’t want to give it away Blush I also finished another baby blanket. No home for this one. I’m not as keen on this one. I think it’s the yarn, which is why I didn’t bother frogging it.

I think that would look lovely @Fairislefandango.

We didn't get to go today Sad but it has been pretty straightforward to rebook for tomorrow morning. Hopefully we'll be on our way. Ds in particular was gutted. I didn't think he felt so strongly but he was in tears poor chap.

NiceCardigan · 22/02/2022 16:45

The blue blanket is lovely InTheNightWeWillWish very professional looking. I like the other one too as you can never have too many blankets!.

I hope your trip goes ok tomorrow MerylSqueak we are going into London tomorrow too to meet my friend and her husband for dinner. Thankfully he trains seem to be back to normal now after the chaos of the last few days.

Fairislefandango · 22/02/2022 18:38

I love your blanket, @MerylSqueak - very beautifully done, and the colours are right up my street. I wouldn't want to give it away either!

MerylSqueak · 22/02/2022 18:43

It is a lovely blanket, but it's not mine! It's the handiwork of @InTheNightWeWillWish Smile

sophs29 · 22/02/2022 18:56

I've been very absent from the thread! It was DS's 4th birthday yesterday, unfortunately we couldn't do our plans of zoo etc because of the weather but we've been busy nonetheless! Shame I hadn't seen those dinosaur patterns beforehand (when I had my crojo) as he would've loved those! I did make some frogs for his nursery recently for their nursery rhyme table!
@InTheNightWeWillWish I love your blankets, that blue one is gorgeous and I'd be the same and want to keep it 😁

Cute frogs sophs29 Smile

I’m trying to make crochet puff flowers at the moment and it isn’t going well!

MerylSqueak · 23/02/2022 10:13

Nice frogs @sophs29

We didn't get to go due to floods around Shrewsbury (we're in Wales). Boo Sad. I'm off to prune the roses.

MerylSqueak · 23/02/2022 10:14

Meant to say I hope you get your trip @NiceCardigan

InTheNightWeWillWish · 23/02/2022 15:02

Thanks all.

Meryl sorry to hear that, hope you get your trip soon!

sophs lovely little frogs and happy belated birthday to your DS.

I’m looking for opinions on a gift. It’s my cousin’s birthday soon, she’ll be 11. When I was up at my mum’s, we had a girly day and she told me her favourite animal was pigs. Her mum (my aunt) died when she was 5. My mum and I mentioned that my aunt’s favourite animal was also a pig and my cousin didn’t know this. So my thought is to make her something pig related for her birthday. We have option 1 Paisley the Pig or option 2 Pig pillow. Option 1 - I probably have the yarn in to make it and the pattern is free, which would all help with maternity leave pay. However, she’ll be 11 so possibly not wanting cuddly toys too much longer. Option 2 - inspired by crochetbug and her Kingsley cushion, perhaps my cousin could hug the pillow when she misses her mum. I’m not sure how much that would work as she learnt about her mum liking pigs through us but I guess the option is there if she finds herself wanting that. It’s the type of cushion that wouldn’t look out of place in a pre-teen/teenagers room. On the downside, I’d have to buy the pattern and yarn. I also don’t really like the feel of chenille yarn so my fingers would be twitching while I’m doing but at least it should work up quickly. Option 3 - I’m the weird, old relative gifting her things that she isn’t interested in, just because she likes pigs doesn’t mean she actually wants them cluttering up her room Hmm Just give her money then she can spend on it clothes, which does seem to be her favourite thing at the minute.

MerylSqueak · 23/02/2022 15:18

Not what you were hoping for, but I think the pillow is great. Either that or the clothes and maybe get a card with a pig on it and see if she catches onto it as a thing and do the pillow for Christmas if she does.

Most people I know around that age love things for their room and also having some spending money. DCs do love their cuddlies but have both said they don't want any more. Apart from the kiwi bird D's asked for for Christmas Hmm

CrochetBug · 23/02/2022 15:30

My 15 year old still loves cuddlies. Or there's a pattern somewhere of a pig with babies inside Grin

lucysmam · 23/02/2022 16:09

Just popping by to say "hello", I've not stopped since Monday 🙄 @MerylSqueak hopefully you'll get your trip soon!

@InTheNightWeWillWish handily, the pig & piglets pattern is still open on my phone here. Alternatively, do money & a pig related card like you said, and see if she picks up on the pig thing.

@sophs29 those frogs are rather sweet 🥰

Tonight's very fast (I hope!) project is a dress up wedding veil but I don't have a headband for a base 🙄 I do have a couple of tiaras but think they'd be too big for a 3/4 year old head 🤷‍♀️ (they're proper wedding ones from when I worked at the prom shop, they were missing odd stones so I was given them for my two). Any ideas? Or do you think use the tiaras & bend them to shape since they're well loved anyway?

MerylSqueak · 23/02/2022 16:11

@lucysmam have you got a thick piece of elastic? Perhaps more comfortable anyway.

lucysmam · 23/02/2022 16:14

I'm just rummaging for some now @MerylSqueak!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 23/02/2022 16:41

I have ordered her a pig card, so maybe it’s pig overload… Hmm I do like both patterns and would enjoy making both. The feel of the chenille yarn would only be temporary and it’s the type of material most pre-teen girls love! Good to know cuddlies were still firm favourites with teens in your houses.

Thanks lucysmam. If you don’t have some elastic (check old trousers/skirts), have you got some hair clips/combs? Even previously loved ones from DDs?

Fairislefandango · 23/02/2022 18:07

Hope you get your trip soon, @MerylSqueak.

@sophs29 - those frogs are adorable!

I'm fuming. The school who just rejected me for both their available jobs have just very breezily asked me if I fancy doing the very job they didn't give me...for just the summer term. Because they now need someone from Easter and the person they chose (over me) can't start until September. The bloody cheek! Angry

Anyway... I have resumed kitting ds' socks and am going to decide on my hat colours this evening.

sophs29 · 23/02/2022 19:01

Thanks everyone!

@InTheNightWeWillWish both patterns are lovey but I personally prefer the first one (the pig teddy) it doesn't look too childish to me either! I have a 13 going on 30 year old nephew and he bloody loves teddies still 🙄😂

@lucysmam I also thought maybe you could make a veil with some fabric and hair clips? Or a shoelace that will tie round and blend in?

@Fairislefandango the absolute nerve!! Are you going to do it for them or politely decline?

InTheNightWeWillWish · 23/02/2022 19:09

FairIsle how cheeky! I think if you take the job, see it as a little extra funding for yarn and to gain some recent experience that everyone keeps telling you need, be the best teacher (which is a given), then breeze off in September to a hopefully better job and leave them wishing they’d chosen you! Hopefully to a job in the south after DH has finally jumped through the hurdles for the head teacher role. If you don’t take the role, think of all the yarn time you could have Wink

lucysmam · 23/02/2022 19:45

@Fairislefandango I'd be fuming too! I've had similar when applying for TA positions before...we don't actually want you for the job you wanted, but would you cover X for so many weeks/months?

I wonder what makes folks think that is an acceptable way to treat someone!

The veil is almost done - I stopped for tea and a shower first. I decided not to get my machine out so am hand sewing 🙄 Good job it's tulle & hides a multitude of speed-sewing related sins 🤣

lucysmam · 23/02/2022 20:42

Ta-da!

50cm elastic, 14 strips of tulle & an unloved hair clip later 🤣

Fairislefandango · 24/02/2022 08:57

That looks great, @lucysmam!

I'm not doing the job - it wouldn't fit around my few current teaching commitments and I'm obviously not ditching them for the sake of one term's work. I was quite glad to have a good reason to say no to them!
