I like to use a chainless method on squares like this...

It minimises the visibility of where you had to get up to the height for the next row.

lazylinguist · 21/08/2021 10:47

Welcome newbies! @WeatherwaxOn - I love the username!

It's nice to hear what everyone's up to aside from knitting/crochet, even if it's mostly house woes and holiday disasters! Grin @CrochetBug - I know what you mean abput not feeling old enough. Dd turns 16 on Thursday Shock.

Am not doing very much at all today we're on day 4 isolating kids have got playmobil water park out and we've filled it with orbezz instead water.... Which is going to end in one almighty mess. I think I'm going to try and finish the baby blanket I've started will post some pics later as am unsure on the colour I've used.

sophs29 · 21/08/2021 11:33

Welcome @WeatherwaxOn sorry I'm awful at explaining things but I always watched Bella Coco on YouTube!
Hello @ForCluckSake ☺️ blanket is looking lovely, and you've now given me the urge to go to B&M! I don't need anymore yarn. I don't need anymore yarn.

lucysmam · 21/08/2021 11:39

You know you want the yarn @sophs29 and other assorted randomness from B&M Grin

sophs29 · 21/08/2021 12:04

Hahaha @lucysmam I want all the yarn 😂😂 I keep telling myself I won't buy anymore until I use what I have and then I find another project that I need yarn for, that isn't in my stash 🙄😂
I haven't been to B&M in ages! It's one of those shops I pop in for one or two things and end up coming out with a trolley full 😭😂

WeatherwaxOn · 21/08/2021 12:33

Thanks crochetbug!
I may end up with a giant and untidy square but I now have a growing feeling of achievement.
Smile

ForCluckSake · 21/08/2021 12:46

sophs29 go on you know you want to....

I have got a 3/4 quarter through the blanket and need to order more wool for it Sad I wanted to finish it today maybe.

Where does everyone get wool online from?

sophs29 · 21/08/2021 13:20

I blame you @ForCluckSake 😂 oh no how annoying! That happened with my DS's jacket, it really unmotivated me for months because I knew I was about to run out and just was so annoyed I didn't even want to order more 😂

A lot of us use wool warehouse online, I ordered some the other day actually 😇 and I use the code RAV10 and you get 10% off ☺️

Myshitisreal · 21/08/2021 13:59

@forclucksake that blanket is beautiful 😍

Go at your own pace, don't even worry about it. I've only pushed myself to learn patterns this past year.. There's no rush or race.

Love the fancy socks linked to!

ForCluckSake · 21/08/2021 14:05

Oh nooo I've just only seen that code and I've just ordered from there... Am sure it won't be my last order I just had to get £25 worth to get free delivery obviously. I have got lots and bright colours to do a rainbow style small baby/dog/cat blanket

InTheNightWeWillWish · 21/08/2021 14:29

Welcome to the newbies!

I was meant to have a visit from some family today, first time I’d have seen them since February last year. But they’ve been in contact with a positive covid case and don’t want to risk getting me sick. So that’s a bit disappointing. We’re currently at dog training instead and it’s pissing it down, even though it wasn’t forecast to. So it’s a little bit of a disappointing day.

When we get home I might try and crack on with the fringe on my shawl. I like the effect of fringe and tassels, I just can’t necessarily be bothered to actually add one, especially when the shawl is so big. I don’t have much enthusiasm for my other WIPs either though and I definitely don’t need to start another WIP!

ForCluckSake · 21/08/2021 14:46

Here is the baby blanket I've almost finished I've ran out of wool just ordered more but am unsure weather I like the colour

I like the colour @ForCluckSake!

My friend's gloves just need the ends sewn in & stitching together now. I need to work out which end I started at first though so I can do them opposite ways up; I marked it with purple stitch markers on mine but didn't think to use a specific colour this time

lucysmam · 21/08/2021 17:06

I'm a numpty...the end I started at has more ends to sew in 🙄🤣

Think it's an early ish night tonight for me!

lazylinguist · 21/08/2021 17:34

@InTheNightWeWillWish - I'll be adding tassels to my shawl, as per the pattern. It's a triangular shawl with just one tassel on each corner though, so not too onerous!

I've been thinking about next projects! Shawl is nearing completion, but I've still got my Goldwing jumper to finish. I've promised ds another pair of socks, and I was wondering about making this for myself. Although, thinking about it.... I also promised dh a hat!

OP posts:
lucysmam · 21/08/2021 17:55

I like that lazy. I think you should finish your Goldwing jumper though so we can ooh and aah over it!

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack how's your jumper going since you changed yarn?

Are cables too adventurous for a beginner knitter? I've seen this on Shein, popped up on fb.

lazylinguist · 21/08/2021 18:30

Definitely finishing the Goldwing first, @lucysmam!

Cables... I'm a bit rubbish at them tbh. They mess with my tension, so I end up with the cabley bits being tighter than they should be, unless I'm really super careful!

ForCluckSake · 21/08/2021 19:22

Those patterns look amazing love the hooded thing

Myshitisreal · 21/08/2021 19:25

@lucysmam I've just learnt them in crochet. They're really quite stubble with a bit of practice, but just a bit awkward. I imagine it's the same principle with knitting. I posted pics of my first try in the last page or two
There sew two cables on my cardigan which had an accompanying video so maybe have Look at a video to get an idea. They're not mindless, but they're not too bad.

Myshitisreal · 21/08/2021 19:25

Simple not stubble!

CrochetBug · 21/08/2021 19:27

Today has mostly been about cake. Well scones actually. And this isn't a crochet thing, but one of the most beautiful things I've ever made (I'm very biased)

Awwww. Happy birthday @CrochetBug 's ds! Cake

Awww happy birthday celebrations ! 🥳

lucysmam · 21/08/2021 19:57

Good idea @Myshitisreal, I'll have a look for a video. I can crochet them ok, so long as I concentrate!

I should actually get the needles out & just go fo it really!

@CrochetBug dd1 would approve of his hair! I hope he's had a fantastic day 🎂🎉🎂
