@CrochetBug I'm sorry you're finding it tough. Did you work out if low card is appropriate? If so, there's a new low carb bootcamp starting on the 18th. You might get a bit of inspiration and support even if you don't do everything they do (as I remember some people are very experienced doing it and their diets can appear quite extreme). Everyone was very nice when I did it before and I'm going to do it this time

InTheNightWeWillWish · 13/10/2021 07:54

lazy the 3 hour one-to-one sounds fantastic.

waitingforsun hi lovely colour for your knitting. Your problem is you don’t have enough needles Grin I’m not a knitted but my mum is and she has a huge collection of WIPs, even more than I’ve got, so she has a number of needles.

I need to actually finish some of my WIPs. Instead I seem to be spending my time finding patterns for Christmas stockings. I definitely don’t have the time to finish all the WIPs before Christmas (and some I wanted to give as presents) let alone add more Christmas stuff in the mix. I think my problem is most of my WIPs have got to a point where I need to sew them up and I just hate sewing.

flavia that’s a pretty colour. I’m starting to get more into green recently and I’ve eyed up a few greens to crochet with.

crochetbug sorry you’re struggling at the minute. It’s OK to feel disheartened, it’s a big adjustment. I found it exhausting to think what to eat everyday and it just takes so much headspace.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 13/10/2021 09:31

I used to do a low GL diet CrochetBug using this book www.worldofbooks.com/en-gb/books/patrick-holford/low-gl-diet-cookbook/ I lost weight on it but I felt great and the recipes were tasty. It's about managing your blood sugar levels so it might be work looking at to see if it would suit you? I could take a photo of some of the recipes and send them to you if you wanted to see what they were like.

I could really do with starting it again as I put a load of weight on during the last lockdown and I haven't managed to shift it yet.

CrochetBug · 13/10/2021 17:07

Thanks @MerylSqueak. I'll have a look for the low carb thing and join. I've ordered that book @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack, thanks for the recommendation.

I did post a lovely long post but my phone is being a twat and deleted it. Basically I bought loads of salad stuff today. Grin

waitingforsun · 13/10/2021 20:03

Evening everyone. I hope everyone has had a good day. I'm hoping my 3 year old gets to sleep soon so I can knit.

@InTheNightWeWillWish oh yes, I need lots more needles now!! Haha

Thenameisweasley · 14/10/2021 10:34

Anyone got any nice pattern recommendations for a crochet headband / ear warmer type thing? I would like to make the 4 year old one!

NiceCardigan · 14/10/2021 10:43

Oh no I’m supposed to be working and this arrived!

CrochetBug · 14/10/2021 10:46

@NiceCardigan work? What's that? Your computer crashed? What a shame Grin guess you'll have to craft until its fixed Wink

InTheNightWeWillWish · 14/10/2021 11:02

nicecardiagn I’m meant to be working and I’ve just had a load of parcels turn up. Yours are more echoing though. Mine is underwear and old lady slippers from M&S Grin Fortunately I’ve got no calls today as I’ve just piled everything around my computer for now.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 14/10/2021 11:05

*more exciting

Bloody auto-carrot 🙄

NiceCardigan · 14/10/2021 11:15

@CrochetBug very tempting! I was only going to work this morning so I just need to get on with it and I’m all set for this afternoon.

Hello all. I'm crazy busy with tons of supply teaching atm, so I'm not getting much knitting done as I have to catch up with housework etc in the evening!

Bit of a surprising development in the lazylinguist household, as dh has decided to apply for a headteacher job that's come up... in Surrey Shock. I mean... there will be lots of competition so he's fairly unlikely to get it, but it would be a massive move for us from Cumbria!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 14/10/2021 16:19

Oh wow lazy I just had a Google as I wasn't sure where Surrey was! That's a big move. How would your DC take it?

Did you get your DC asleep in time to get anything done @waitingforsun? Mine have a knack of deciding it's party time when I'm secretly wanting to get on with something Grin

Very nice NiceCardigan! Love your colour selection!

@Thenameisweasley I don't crochet but I saw lots popping up on Ravelry recently, sort of like a headband with a twist?

lazylinguist · 14/10/2021 16:30

Ds13 is pretty keen, Flavia. Dd knows she would like living there (more hoing on,v close to London etc) but has close friends at home and would be half-way through her A Level courses, which could complicate matters...

OP posts:
CrochetBug · 14/10/2021 18:53

Oh wow @lazylinguist. That would be quite a move! Where abouts in Surrey? I'm in neighboring Berkshire Grin

Myshitisreal · 14/10/2021 19:12

Don't think any of you are ready for this 😂 sorry 🙏

My latest creation made from a hexagon cardigan

Wow!!!! thats amazing. So colourful!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 14/10/2021 19:28

myshitisreal that’s awesome. Made me smile as I clicked on the photos Smile

That’s a big move lazy. I know you’re a southerner moved north but are the DC northern and lived up there for as long as they can remember? You’ll miss the mountains of lazy DH is successful but you would be significantly closer to London. Although you might not find spinning courses as easily, you’ll be able to find cooking courses on lots of different cuisines and fusion food though so you might have to abandon us to go start a foodie thread Wink

lazylinguist · 14/10/2021 19:47

Wowzers @Myshitisreal - that's amazing! I don't really do bright colours myself, but I always admire other people's bright creations!

@CrochetBug - Reigate. One of the advantages is that we'd be miles closer to all our extended family (e.g. 37 mins away from dsis and 45 from my parents, instead of 5hrs and 4hrs!). Plus the job comes with accommodation (state boarding school - unusual). So we could rent out our current house. There is no way we could afford to buy a family house in Reigate!

lazylinguist · 14/10/2021 20:02

InTheNight the dc are still southerners really. We've been here 7 years and neither has developed a local accent! They still get accused of being 'posh' Hmm.

I certainly won't be abandoning you for a foodie thread! I'm a decent cook but I can't be arsed with much faffing and fanciness! I think I'm too far into my yarniness to pull out now Grin. Speaking of which, my local knit and natter group has started up again on Wednesday evenings! I was too frazzled to go yesterday, but I might next week.

Can't wait for this week to be over. I had an absolute nightmare of a class to cover this afternoon Sad. I was actually shaking slightly by the time I left the room. Fortunately this doesn't happen often.

lucysmam · 14/10/2021 21:46

Do any of you use Knit Pro Zing crochet hooks? I can't decide whether to try one of those, or stick to the Waves ones since I like the feel of those. I'm wondering if they're similar in feel to the cheap metal ones I started with since their shape is similar?

I'm just browsing for a 3.75mm as my friend didn't have one; she brought me an epic selection of 3.5mm but they're definitely too small for the gloves I want to make.

I finished dd2's pumpkin this afternoon and started a ghost 🙄 I just really want to make these gloves though!

You've all posted loads since I last checked in so I'll have a scroll back now. @Myshitisreal your post did catch my eye though as I scrolled down to the text box. Dd1 would love that I think; I'll show her in the morning.

lazylinguist · 14/10/2021 21:56

I don't have any of their crochet hooks, lucysmam but have quite a few of their knitting needles and I really like them!

OP posts:
MerylSqueak · 15/10/2021 06:57

I love their knitting needles too but last year bought myself a set of Drops interchangeable needle and they're very similar but we're much cheaper. I imagine they do crochet hooks.

MerylSqueak · 15/10/2021 07:00

Just had a look and they do do them. The ends look the same as mine, which are hollow metal. I imagine the grips are a very personal taste. Mine don't have them.

lucysmam · 15/10/2021 07:49

Thanks @MerylSqueak I'll have a hunt and see if they do a 3.75mm one. Their handles look similar in shape to the Knit Pro ones I've been using.
