That's the beauty of making our own jumpers. They actually fit.

Ha - I wish I had your confidence, @CrochetBug! When I knit a jumper I have no idea if it will fit or not. Grin

sophs I think the jumper is lovely! I wouldn't wear it in super bright colours and I don't do pastels either, but I actually have a stripey jumper I love which is a bit more muted.

I've emailed the spinning course woman, so hopefully I'll be able to sort something out.

Well technically that's the beauty of it. The reality isn't always the same Grin

lazylinguist · 12/10/2021 07:33
Grin Well I've emailed the spinning woman and she suggests a 3 hour private tuition session, which would be perfect I think!

Ooh that does sound perfect Lazy. How lovely of your in laws.

CrochetBug · 12/10/2021 17:25

Oh that sounds perfect @lazylingust! You lucky thing.

I spent the afternoon making a hat and wrist warmers. I didnt use a pattern, just made it up as I went along.

Wow - you are very talented, @CrochetBug! I couldn't do that if you paid me. And to do it in one afternoon...! The only thing I've knitted or crocheted in less than about 3 weeks is those two tiny fish I made for dh's birthday card Grin. And most things take me months!

I've just been finalising the menu choices, welcome drinks choices, table plan etc for my big birthday dinner. We head off to Oxford 2 weeks tomorrow (staying 2 nights). I'm getting quite excited!

Hello everyone! Pleased to have found this thread. I've been crocheting a few years and have just decided to give knitting a go. I love the look of knitted fabric but I've never got the hang of it before. This time I'm having more success and I'm making a snood. I've got into a good rhythm but the thing I find most frustrating is when I make a mistake I really struggle to fix it. I just can't work out where the yarn should go. I've had to start again three times 🙈 My latest attempt has a few errors that I've managed to bodge so they're not that noticeable. Photo of my progress attached!

Anyway, looking forward to chatting with you all here 😊

Thanks @lazylinguist they really were very easy. Annoyingly I don't have enough yarn left for a matching scarf and i don't think that colourway is still on sale.
I'm not a million miles from Oxford so wave when you're there Grin

Welcome @waitingforsun. That looks better than my first attempts at knitting!

lazylinguist · 12/10/2021 20:59

Hi waitingforsun! Welcome to the thread(s). Your knitting looks very good and not beginnerish! When I first learned I had holes and wavy edges from accidentally dropping and adding stitches Grin. Nice colour too!

NiceCardigan · 12/10/2021 21:02

That looks great @waitingforsun I love the colour.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 12/10/2021 21:03

Hello waitingforsun, welcome to the thread Smile You have lovely neat stitches there!

That sounds absolutely perfect lazy! What a brilliant present Smile Your plans sound great!

Those are lovely CrochetBug!

I'm still slogging on with my test knit. It's quite addictive now I've got into the rhythm of it, but I reckon it's either going to be flattering or hideous on me, one extreme or the other! I can always rip it out and use the yarn for something else once I've finished though.

lazylinguist · 12/10/2021 21:06

Ooh - it's nice, Flavia! What kind of stitch is going on there - it looks like kind of a shifted rib thing.

NiceCardigan · 12/10/2021 21:07

That’s a great shade of green @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack. I’m currently fighting with a complicated sock - why don’t I just pick an easier pattern.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 12/10/2021 21:14

I'm knitting it at night and taking update photos in bad light NiceCardigan so it's actually more this shade, quite bright really! That's pretty much what it is lazy 5 rows of 2x2 ribbing then a row of 2x2 cables. The ribbing is pretty quick but the cables slow it down a fair bit even without using a cable needle.

I still have half a cable sock to go from ages ago NiceCardigan I really should finish it...

waitingforsun · 12/10/2021 21:19

@lazylinguist @CrochetBug thank you! I am really happy with it so far. I'm already planning more projects. Can't wait to make a knitted hat for my little boy 🙂

I need to read back in the thread and see what everyone is making!

NiceCardigan · 12/10/2021 21:22

The brighter the better as far as I’m concerned Flavia I do like a bit of cabling as well.

waitingforsun · 12/10/2021 21:23

@NiceCardigan thank you. It's just a cheap ball of Women's Institute yarn I picked up in hobbycraft when I spontaneously bought the knitting needles. I'm not sure it's my colour really but I can always gift it if it's good enough!

lazylinguist · 12/10/2021 21:44

I need to read back in the thread and see what everyone is making!

You'll need to skim through all the bits where we're banging on about our pets, in-laws, job searches etc Grin And my wittering on about spinning. I keep watching videos that are just of people spinning fgs!

waitingforsun · 12/10/2021 21:58

@lazylinguist haha. I don't mind that, I was definitely expecting some random natter! Quite interested to read about the spinning!

CrochetBug · 12/10/2021 22:00

I need to read back in the thread and see what everyone is making!

If you find out what I'm making let me know Grin
Joking. I've got eleventy billion wips and I'm bored of them all. Blush

sophs29 · 12/10/2021 22:20

Good news on the spinning course @lazylinguist

@CrochetBug those are lovely! Gorgeous colour combo too! Are they for yourself or?

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack that pattern looks so interesting! Glad you've got into the swing of it!

@NiceCardigan I've made so many socks I'm sick of them at the moment 😂 and the pair I was plodding through for my mums birthday I gave up on..mainly because when I was last there she told my dad "don't get me any socks for my birthday, I already have enough" 😂 so I thought sod it, I'll make something else haha!

@waitingforsun hello! ☺️ that does look very neat! I also love the colour, I love a snood!

I've started on the 'eclectic jumper' excited to start it properly tomorrow now the boring ribbing is done 🙄

waitingforsun · 12/10/2021 22:21

@CrochetBug oh no!! I was getting like that with my crochet so thought I may as well build up a colloid knitted wips. I've already considered starting another but I currently only have one pair of needles so I actually can't start anything else yet 🤣

MerylSqueak · 12/10/2021 22:27

Hello @waitingforsun
I've decided I need to get a move on with a promised present so hace put my blue scarf to one side. Am now knitting a green one, or should I say knitting and unknotting trying to find a pattern I like. Might post a pic when I ve done a bit more to see what you all think as, as usual, I can't decide.

CrochetBug · 12/10/2021 22:37

@waitingforsun that's the positive (or negative depending on how you look at it) of crochet over knitting. You can take the hook out and use it on more than one project at a time. Or you could collect a large supply of hooks like I have. Grin

I think I'll aim to finish DS1s hat next. Then DS2 and his friend have asked for matching hats in "camo" colours. Im hoping DS2 will find something suitable in the cupboard.

I actually really want to do some embroidery but I can't hold a needle Sad sewing the ends in on the stuff I made earlier was bad enough. I also really struggling with this new eating regime I'm meant to have. I just don't have the energy or the willpower. I have to do it. I know I do. But I'm so... something. Disheartened maybe.

@sophs29 they are for me. I made them to fit, I tried the wrist warmers on after every round to work out if I needed to increase or decrease. As a result they would be a weird fit on anyone else because I have really short fat hands (like my whole body really) Grin

lazylinguist · 12/10/2021 22:43

Awww sorry you're finding the eating thing tough, @CrochetBug. I wonder if there are any helpful threads on MN? There are low carb ones, but you'd think there might be a diabetics' support thread - after all, it's a pretty common illness. Brew Flowers
