A stash for stroking is a perfectly acceptable use of wool.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 30/08/2021 19:45

@InTheNightWeWillWish wow! That is beautiful!

Some lovely projects, it’s funny how after everyone having WIP’s for ages it all comes together at once! Fingers cross it rubs off on my WIP’s!

I finished my yoke and knit down to the waist increases in the green wool and then tried it on to find the green wool is knitting up at a different gauge even though I did a big swatch. It’s like some sort of triangular smocked poncho thing atm so it’s getting frogged back up to the yoke and I’ll either reknit it on smaller needles or do some reducing of stitches. Possibly both, I’ve been sulking about it a bit and have fallen down the rabbit hole of learning about marine charts so I haven’t done much since I realised.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 30/08/2021 22:22

crochetbug I love the Tunisian. It’s on the list to learn at some point but I keep adding other projects to the list before I get down to the bottom 🙄

Nana lovely cardigan and nice sock lucysmam

flavia that’s a shame that the gauge is out and you’ve had to frog it. I get really disheartened when a pattern goes squiffy and sulk for a bit. Then I reach a point where I think I won’t let this defeat me and that’s usually when I end up staying up until ridiculous o’clock (even if I have work the next day) to finish the bloody thing.

I couldn’t settle on any project today. Had a go at every WIP. Started a few more, decided I didn’t like them and frogged them. One set of wool has been started three times in 3 different patterns. The couch is covered in yarn away. I have my dad visiting at weekend (and doesn’t do clutter and will not approve of a yarn mountain), so I’ll need to put all the yarn away. I knew I’d need to put it all back but it still didn’t stop me pulling out everything today. And I still didn’t find inspiration!

I would love to knit socks.

@NanaPorsche - I don't think I've plugged my wonderful sock knitting book since you've been on the thread Grin. It's called 'Getting Started Knitting Socks' by Ann Budd. I absolutely couldn't get the hang of socks until I bought it!

NanaPorsche · 30/08/2021 22:35

@lazylinguist
Thanks for that. I'll have a look.
Blush

CrochetBug · 30/08/2021 22:41

I've just realised why @lazylinguist tells everyone to buy the sock book...

She is Ann Budd Grin

I've finished my Tunisian thing, other than the button band and I can't get the stitch count to work out so I'm waiting on a video from the designer.
I may have treated myself to a set of Tunisian hooks with some of my birthday money, so I need more Tunisian projects Grin

I'm using the rest for yarn to make a jumper and the hooded jacket I linked up thread. I can't decide on colours though. I'm kinda tempted to do charcoal grey with a bright faux fur trim.

lazylinguist · 31/08/2021 11:03

Ah - you got me, @CrochetBug Grin Might as well change my username to AnnBuddSockExpert! Nope... I am definitely no Ann Budd, I'm afraid.

Grin your secret sock superhero identity is out lazy!

I was browsing Instagram earlier and saw the most tiny and adorable crochet blanket www.instagram.com/p/CTKXy4uDotZ/?utm_medium=copy_link

Who had a dolls house that needs decorating again? Its almost worth me wrestling with crochet to make one for our Playmobil camping set Grin

InTheNightWeWillWish · 31/08/2021 11:44

Aww lazy that’s disappointing, I thought we had a knitting celebrity in our midst!

flavia that is so cute but it makes eyes hurt just thinking about crocheting something that small.

sophs29 · 31/08/2021 12:18

@FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack I said up thread I saw something similar and it made me really want to make a tiny crochet blanket 😂 I have no one to make anything like that for though 😭 I'm hopefully getting my DS some playmobil for Christmas so I might have to purposely get him something that requires a blanket 😂

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 31/08/2021 12:35

The camping set will def work for that sophs Grin

tizwozliz · 31/08/2021 12:54

I made little fabric sleeping bags for my niece and nephew's sylvanian families - crocheting would have been much easier, but it was before i had learned. Could have made some lovely rugs too!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 31/08/2021 17:17

As I have bugger all discipline when it comes to crochet, I’ve started another WIP! It’s a rainbow blanket. I’m just using a simple stitch because I like the finished look with a simple stitch (even if it can get a bit boring) and I love the colours and just to show them off without them getting lost in stitches.

However, I can’t work out if I want to do 6 wide blocks and repeat each colour only once. To have a smaller block but repeat each colour twice and in the same order (going through the rainbow). Or do random stripe - possibly in rainbow order or random order.

tizwozliz · 31/08/2021 18:52

@IntheNightWeWillWish - I normally resort to looking through finished projects on Ravelry as i struggle to visualise otherwise.

lucysmam · 31/08/2021 19:25

Oooh @InTheNightWeWillWish do a rainbow, then repeat going backwards to your first colour?

I was actually coming to say I have a huge grin right now...my friend gave me £20 for the gloves I made her! And loved the things for the boys dollshouse 😊 I'm made up!

lucysmam · 31/08/2021 21:41

Ooh, the ends 🙄 should have done them as I went along...

InTheNightWeWillWish · 31/08/2021 21:52

tizwozliz and lucysmam for random stripes, I’d probably follow something like this but add a few thin rows of teal in the bottom half and a few rows of light blue in the top half. I love the idea of random stripes but I’m always a bit too chicken to do them (even with a visual aid) because if I don’t like it, I’ve then got loads of yarn scraps at random lengths.

lucysmam that’s really great about the gloves. She must really love them. I don’t envy you seeing in those ends!

lucysmam · 31/08/2021 22:04

I don't envy me either - I've put it down for the night & will finish them tomorrow Grin

I quite like that pattern, it's nice and bright! I'd never have thought to use a random generator to help plan.

sophs29 · 01/09/2021 07:56

Oh @lucysmam that's a lot of ends😣 I normally crochet mine in as I go but sometimes forget, I don't mind a few but that's not a few is it 😫😂 so happy your friend loved her gloves! So nice to be appreciated isn't it!

@InTheNightWeWillWish lovely colours! how big will it be? ☺️

Also @CrochetBug your comment about lazy keeps making me laugh every time I see it 😂

sophs29 · 01/09/2021 07:56

@tizwozliz only just seen those little sleeping bags!! So cute!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 01/09/2021 09:07

sophs I want it a bit taller than it is wide and it’s currently about 90cm wide. I think some of it will be see how it’s looking as I get nearer the end and just deciding when it looks done 🤷‍♀️

WeatherwaxOn · 01/09/2021 09:10

@MerylSqueak

I am currently teaching my house guest to knit (she asked). She's downstairs practising casting on!

Nice granny squares. Love the colours on yours @WeatherwaxOn. Right up my street.

Thanks! Been looking at "solid" squares and combined 2 techniques on this test one. I prefer the outer part to the inner. Need to actually do something other than play with crochet today. Grin

sophs29 · 01/09/2021 10:29

Finally finished DS's jacket, I'm not overly happy with it, but for some reason I loathed making it 😣 it's something I've always wanted to make for him, I just didn't enjoy it, maybe because I ran out of yarn and mojo half way through so it's taken a lot longer than it should have done!

lazylinguist · 01/09/2021 10:39

Last night I couldn't be bothered to check if my Goldwing body is long enough to start the ribbing at the bottom, so I went back to my only other current WIP Shock, which is the cable cushion cover we did as a KAL Blush I slowed down, got left behind and then totally ground to a halt on that one for some reason! Anyway, now I've done a few more rows I myst stick at it and get it finished!

@sophs29 - I love that little jacket! It's cure and a lovely blue.

lazylinguist · 01/09/2021 11:16

Ummm... cute, not cure Hmm
