Oh thank you @lazylinguist
Oh the KAL was a while ago wasn't it! I'm going to get a new rug for our living room this autumn/winter and I might make some cushions to match, if I get a chance that is 🙄😂

tizwozliz · 01/09/2021 15:08

I've spent half the morning trying to find a cotton or cotton mix yarn that i can use for an Attic24 coast blanket instead of stylecraft. I thought I might be able to use a king cole one but seem to be a couple of colours i can't find even half decent matches for.

I'm always cautious about mixing and matching brands as when I've tried amigurumi with different brands of supposedly the same weight yarn things the sizing has always been off.

Yes, the KAL was aaages ago! I didn't get very far with it. I've got a bit of a new (school) year's resolution to stop letting a new WIP make me completely ignore any others I might have on the go! Being a household of 2 teachers and 2 school age dc, September always feels like more of a new start than January does for me!

sophs that’s a lovely jacket, definitely worth the wait.

lazy I read an article ages ago about how most people see September as a fresh start, they’ll look for new jobs, move house, start new relationships (or end old ones). The reason is that from a young age you’re told every September is a fresh start, it doesn’t matter what you did last year as you get a fresh start. Even not working in a school environment that mentality carries with them into adulthood and a lot of people look to make a change in September.

lucysmam · 01/09/2021 17:33

Made quite a dent in the ends over the past hour; hopefully finish those & make the embellishments for this sock tonight 🤞

Weather do you have a plan for your squares? Or just practising?

@sophs29 that little jacket's lovely. Reminds me of one my girls used to have 😊 I'm sure your ds will be snuggly in it.

Yes, I guess that makes sense! I always use an academic year diary, and even if I stopped being a teacher, I think I'd find it weird not to. I guess I'm properly institutionalised- I never left the education system (except for maternity leave)!

Thank you everyone ☺️

Can't wait to see your socks @lucysmam
And that's interesting @InTheNightWeWillWish my DP started his new job Monday!

MerylSqueak · 02/09/2021 06:46

Lovely socks, lovely jacket, lovely square!

I have finishe my shawl but stil unsure about it. I'll block it at the weekend and see.

One day in to the new school year and I am already ready for bed at half nine. I'm using it to turn a new leaf too: losing weight and no more wine for a bit. I've done one day so far!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/09/2021 10:30

@MerylSqueak

same here, I'm shell-shocked they are back at school already. After those long lockdowns this summer just whooshed by!
2 of mine started at new schools, DS6 is in y3 and DS5 is now in high school, eek!
His blazer is the smallest they do but it's still too big and hanging off him, lending him a lovely "just drenched" look🤣

Lovely stuff everyone, @lucysmam nice socks!

Amongst all the decluttering, sewing & getting ready for school (we have DS4 & DD starting on Monday, the DS2 & DS3 going to college mid-Sept) I'm slowly progressing with squares for another Candy's hug.
Next week I need to get back to working on my kids' blankets and I have some cross-stitch samplers to do as well. My brain is fizzing!😁

Dh was back at school yesterday for INSET, dd in today for 6th Form induction and ds not back until Monday (staggered start to manage Covid testing)! I'm back to work tomorrow afternoon, teaching at my lovely village school. The summer did go quickly, although post-GCSE dd had months off!

Love the little jacket that's soooooo cute!

I've made these butterflies and a little bookmark as a gift. I'm not built to use a 1.5 hook 😬

We've been back in today; utter chaos. I'm apparently on my own on the playground with Yr & Ks1 until another person brings the stragglers out. That works so well when R's coats are in an entirely different location & I can't supervise the one who's likely to run as well as the rest 🤯🙄 There are already changes being made.

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba those colours are lush.

I want to get my machine out; I'm just lacking inspiration for what to make with the 3m of satin backed crepe I bought for the sleeveless top I wanted to put sleeves on 🤷‍♀️

@Myshitisreal, love the bookmark. I pinned some patterns for some corner ones, a while ago but haven't got to them yet.

lazylinguist · 02/09/2021 15:31

Eek @lucysmam - sounds chaotic!
Dd's first day of 6th form wasn't great, based on her grumpy face and monosyllabic responses to my cheerful enquiries on the way home. She only had one lesson, so I don't know what she's got to look quite so grumpy about tbh. Would just rather be at home playing (yet more) Minecraft I guess.

Happy back to school for you school staff and those with school aged children.

I'm not built to use a 1.5 hook

I’ve not tried a 1.5mm hook yet but I’m pretty confident I can say the same. I’m struggling with a 2mm hook and 4ply!

sophs29 · 02/09/2021 16:09

@Myshitisreal that bookmark is lovely! (Adds to list of things to make) 😇😂

@lucysmam that sounds so stressful!

My DS was back to nursery today, he absolutely loved it, he only goes for 3 hours but must have been busy as he was home an hour and was already napping 😂

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/09/2021 16:30

I'm not one to enjoy micro crochet but I made this a bottle (with a message inside!) a few years ago.
I used 0.8mm hook and 2 strands of embroidery floss (no pattern, made it up as I went along).
I haven't been tempted to make anything so small since.

Cute, but must have been super fiddly! I have a book of mostly crochet, but some knitted, patterns for flowers, leaves, berries, acorns etc. I've never actually made anything from it, partly because I'm not sure what I'd do with them, but mostly because I think I'd be all fingers and thumbs and find them too fiddly!

Thinking about it though... whose beautiful card was I admiring upthread? I could try making cards with crocheted flowers etc on them! Some of the stuff does look gorgeous - things like little sprigs of lavender etc. They might make good mini-projects alongside my bigger knitted things.

That is cute Zing!

That's a lovely jacket sophs your DS will look adorable in it!

Wow Myshitisreal they're gorgeous!

My youngest went back last week and my eldest went back this week. It's so unnervingly quiet when they're both out Smile

InTheNightWeWillWish · 02/09/2021 17:30

zing I’m one to enjoy micro crochet… as long as I’m not doing it!

🤣
quite!

CrochetBug · 02/09/2021 19:00

I tried microcrochet once. But I think I needed embroidery cotton not silk because it was so slippy the magic ring just wouldn't stay closed, and it was bigger than I wanted. I have to use my magnifying lamp though Grin

Beautiful work everyone as always (sorry can't remember who posted what)

I don't actually know when mine go back to school/college. I probably should check Blush

lucysmam · 02/09/2021 20:10

Grin @CrochetBug you probably should!

Dd2's extra organised for starting secondary tomorrow. Everything was out & her dinner was packed by the time I got in from school! She'd even got out my big tea cup for tonight and tea cups for the morning. Wonder how long that'll last!

I've not tried micro crochet, yet. Not entirely sure my eyes would be up to it.

I started my second sock this afternoon, done the first round so I'm going to do a bit of the cables tonight. I'm going to sew in ends every now and again this time though! That was not fun & took aaaaaaaages!

NanaPorsche · 02/09/2021 20:28

So many fabulous things happening on this thread.

I love sewing in ends! (That's not sarcasm 😬). I've done a few fair isle things in the past and it's taken a few evenings to sew ends in.

What a cosy hooded jacket. Love the buttons.

I'm an ex-teacher - still using an academic diary.

I'm starting a soft toy this evening.

lucysmam · 02/09/2021 20:32

I've been pondering the talk of academic diaries on and off since they were mentioned - my life runs to an academic year for everything (even my accounts for my Rainbows and Guides, because that's easier for me), I wonder if this is why the shiny new diary I always buy for the new calendar year rarely gets an outing once I put the important stuff in 🤔 I'm going to buy an academic one next time I go to town & see if I use it, out of curiosity.

Nana, I will send you my next sock to sew the ends in Grin they were never ending!
