Looks great considering you're new to it @givemebooks Smile

InTheNightWeWillWish · 23/01/2021 18:47

@givemebooks also looks like mine but I’m also just sort of winging it!

CrochetBug · 23/01/2021 18:49

That looks fine to me @givemebooks (I also love to be given books).
Curry from a jar is cooking nicely. DS1 asked for 'Chinese prawns' (aka filo prawns from Iceland).
I may have started the next section. I can't quite believe how quickly this is working up!

Myshitisreal · 23/01/2021 18:55

Just wanted to share 2 tips

This video shows how to triple up on yarn without 3 separate balls

And a Russian join

Ill catch up in a bit. Can't wait to see Cal pics. I'm evilly plotting an amazing mosaic blanket with my new massive wool purchase 🥳

Also was doodling about with mosaic, here's a swatch. If anyone wants instructions, it's easy peasy pie. This is two balls of the same wool.

There's also a picture of uhhhh more wool I bought? It's to make myself scarf hat and gloves. I blame the seller for offering me discount 😂 5 balls is enough for that isn't it? Think I'll do tunisian 🤔

OK just decided to throw myself in the deep end and try an easy hat knit. I am long tail casting. How often do you get frustrated by getting to 67 stitches and realising you can't make the last 9 because you didn't eyeball enough wool for the cast.

This is the third time I've started this cast as the other two I used the wrong size needles and then cast the wrap with my long rather than the ball., 😭😭

I'm always doing that!

Everyone's CALs etc look fab. Will check in properly later. Off to pick up my curry!

@lazylinguist I am glad it's not just me. I went full circle and ended up with a rather long tail. So I cut it off no one saw so it didn't happen

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 23/01/2021 20:01

You can cast on a much shorter tail then use it to calculate it the length you need but I just use a really long one usually unless I'm worried I won't have enough yarn...

The cal photos look brilliant! I love seeing all the different colours and how different it makes them.

lazy I just worked out we watched all two seasons over a few nights and there's no more for tonight Shock so I'm looking forward to Ghosts season 3 now too Grin

Thanks @CrochetBug! Smile

Scoobygang7 · 23/01/2021 20:03

Sorry I have a question am hoping someone can help with.

On the 5th row of the pattern I need to change to a bigger needle. Where it changes I think I need to knit the first row of the bigger size on to the 6mm off the 5.5. Am I correct in thinking that?

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 23/01/2021 20:22

Yes, you're right scooby

Scoobygang7 · 23/01/2021 20:25

@flavia thank you 😊

lazylinguist · 23/01/2021 20:39

Right. I've now eaten so much curry that I couldn't do anything but sit on the sofa and crochet even if I wanted to. Time to catch up a bit with you speedy ones!

bruffin · 23/01/2021 20:56

@Scoobygang7
I do that or use the tail to knit first row.
A tip i found on the internet is to wrap the wool round the needle times the number of stitches then ther should be a long enough tail

lazylinguist · 23/01/2021 21:13

That looks great, givemebooks! You're ahead of me - I'm not sure I'll quite finish the Granny Blocks tonight. Maybe...

@lazylinguist crazy how different it looks in the different colours! The white looks lovely! Did you decide how often you're going to change colours? (Sorry if you've said and I've missed it)!

Dilbertian · 24/01/2021 08:59

@Myshitisreal you haven't shown the labels of that rather lovely wool too clearly. Is that out of compassion for our wallets? Wink

Dilbertian · 24/01/2021 09:10

Re casting on, I usually estimate 1cm per stitch for size 4 needles. For smaller needles I multiply the needle size by 3 and turn the result into cm, but for larger needles I multiply the needle size by 4 and turn the result into cm. For all sizes I add at least 20cm for error and to provide a bit of a tail. The larger the needle the more I add.

lazylinguist · 24/01/2021 09:20

Yes, sophs - I decided I'd just chamgecolour for every new stitch section- keeping it simple! It means the stripes of grey and cream will vary in width, but I'm fine with that. I've sped up a little, now that I've got into the swing of it. A couple of rows of Grannies done in the grey.
