One sock finished and on the blocker to dry and the ribbing for the next one is underway 🥳

Ok. Well 2 strands of DK are not the same as Aran at. However, there is barely any difference between DK and Aran so I'm using a mixture. Grin

Thats a lovely sock @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack

lazylinguist you’ve similar levels of snow to my mum, who is up in the north west. We have no snow here. My mum has to have several inches of snow for us to get a flutter. You’ll have to post a picture of the mountains on a clearer day - give me a fix! I miss hills and mountains terribly where I am.

I’ve started my CAL and sent DH to marks and Spencer’s (our closest small shop/petrol station) for some sandwiches and ‘endurance snacks’ for my CAL. I hope he doesn’t come back with an actual endurance snack like a muesli bar Hmm

CrochetBug · 23/01/2021 12:44

@InTheNightWeWillWish I need a DH that does that! Sometimes the teens can be bribed to go to the shop for me, but then it costs twice as much Grin

lazylinguist · 23/01/2021 12:56

Woo hoo - chain and first row done. I felt like I didn't quite have space for the last ch2 sk2ch dc. I find it hard to tell whether the very end of the starting chain is actually a chain iyswim. Anyway I'm sure it'll be fine .

This is a lovely thread.

I’m a complete novice knitter (knitted two basic scarves very slowly for myself and ds during first lockdown), I’d love to try something else but not sure where to start. My dm knitted me a teddy when I was little which I still have. She passed away a few years ago so it’s a lovely memory. Do any of you know of any companies that do knitting kits for things like that? I think I’d find a pattern a bit complicated!

givemebooks · 23/01/2021 13:13

Well done @lazylinguist , lunch has been had here but I am procrastinating convincing myself not to bother! as I have no clue! Some of the basic stitches i have not even done yet!! I need a slap and yo just get on!!

lazylinguist · 23/01/2021 13:13

Hi applesandbananasandoranges! I've never used a kit. I don't know that they'd necessarily be any easier- presumably you just get the yarn, (needles too?) and a pattern. I guess a beginner's kit might have more simplified pattern instructions though?

Almost everyone seems to start with scarves, but they can take a loooong time! How about a hat?

lazylinguist · 23/01/2021 13:17

I'm about to break for lunch halfway through row 2 givemebooks. I will not slap you Grin, but gently encourage you in the direction of your hook and yarn. New stitches will be fine - you have back-up on here!

Afternoon fellow yarn crafters!! I'm starting a new side hustle by selling crochet items. Nothing fancy just a few hats, scarves, blankets that kind of thing. I knocked this up yesterday and I'm unsure about whether or not it's good enough to sell. Can you let me know if you would buy it and wear it, not buy it at all, or maybe would buy it for someone else?

Many thanks!

Im just finishing row 4 and then ill be having lunch. DS2 came home from my Mums with a large tub of home made chicken noodle soup. He kindly saved me half Grin

Myshitisreal · 23/01/2021 13:32

My head is spinning to keep up 😂

@lucysmam I'd love to see your decorated yarn box, sounds so cute.

Tiz, your wee creatures are amazing.

Welcome to the newbies.

That hat is stunning. Beautiful colours 😍

Good luck with the cal can't wait to see the progress

lazylinguist · 23/01/2021 13:37

Fantastic hat, TheMostHappy! I'd definitely buy one like that for someone, or for myself in more muted colours (I like bright colours on other people, but they don't suit me!).

NiceCardigan · 23/01/2021 13:42

I’m looking forward to see the results of the CAL! This is my current work in progress. I’m taking it slowly as I haven’t used circular needles before.

I wont CAL as i can't crochet very well yet but i did start knitting a blanket for the cat from raverly

TheMostHappy · 23/01/2021 13:51

Thank you @lazylinguist that's great. It's quite bright isn't it. Hopefully someone will like it!

lazylinguist · 23/01/2021 13:53

Lovely colour, NiceCardigan!

CrochetBug · 23/01/2021 14:05

That hat is gorgeous @TheMostHappy. I'm sure some one will snap it up!

How of of the CAL are we aiming to do this week? Is it all of part one? Or just the granny blocks?
I don't like the first block on each row. It looks like it only has 2 stitches in it because the turning chain isn't in the same place. Hmph.

lazylinguist · 23/01/2021 14:10

For InTheNightWeWillWish - you said you were missing the mountains. Here's a view out of a different window, where you can just about see the snowy mountains. Plus a photo dh took on our recent walk.

Here's my test knit, constructive criticism welcome. Garter stitch, to purl, to stocking stitch, to ribbing. I naffed the ribbing as I didn't realise I needed to check the underneath stitch. So I was just k2 p2 from start to finish.

Runforwine · 23/01/2021 14:19

TheMistHappy I love your rainbow hat! Well, I've manage to make a square, there are a few holes where I missed a stitch and it's a bit wavy. After reading up on it I think I have to change to a smaller hook once I've completed my first chain.

lazylinguist · 23/01/2021 14:23

Looking good, Scooby!

sophs29 · 23/01/2021 14:36

I feel the same as you @CrochetBug and I think the way I've changed colours on each row looks rubbish but I'm sure once I put a border on it, it will hide it haha!

Having to have a lunch break and assemble a 4 door mirrored wardrobe but made a good start this morning (I think) haha!

Just popping up to say yay to another fellow circular needle knitter! Enjoy @NiceCardigan - I don’t do anything but circular knitting now!

Good luck for the CAL- looking forward to nosing at your progress!

CrochetBug · 23/01/2021 14:44

Those colours are gorgeous @sophs29!
How are you changing colour? I change on the last part of the last stitch before the color change.
A border will cover all the messy bits on the ends but that block will still look wrong to me. Hmm
