Yes I meant to say @crochetbug they're both aran. That's great. I think it's difficult because I can't go in a shop. I'm sure everyone's the same.

Thank you re kitty. She has severe lymphoma so we're on her last days. I just want to make sure she lives them in comfort ♥ when I was Crocheting round her, every so often she was thinking my crochet hook was food 😂 funny.

Rinder, that blanket is gorgeous. Great use of colour.

Myshitisreal · 22/01/2021 13:36

Welcome to the newbies.

@runforwine have you looked at bella coco tutorials on YouTube. Her stuff is amazing

InTheNightWeWillWish · 22/01/2021 13:54

Myshitisreal that’s the sign of a good cat bed if she won’t even let you finish crocheting before climbing on! Definitely a comfort for her last days Flowers I’m struggling with not being able to go into shops. I know I’m a newbie but my mum knits so I’m actually used to spending hours in wool shops picking wools with her. I ordered some wool online and it’s just not the right colour. And I know it’s not the end of the world but I’ve now got 3 balls of a green that I didn’t want and I’ve got to think of a project to use them in Grin

Reachers I love the colours on your blanket

Myshitisreal · 22/01/2021 14:25

So for the green you could buy a contrasting colour cake and make hat scarf gloves set (gift occasions coming up?), or turn it into a Christmas collection 😂 which involves buying glittery wool. Hmmm I'm not helpful am i.

Enc pics of my Christmas wool /stripy sleeves to make into Christmas gloves, little holly leaves to add to present wrapping and Christmas butterflies which were all gifted and hung on people's trees. I let people pick

Hello everyone, I've scrolled through the posts and I am in awe of your lovely projects. I can knit and crochet to a basic level but this pandemic etc has meant that I'm crazy busy at work and I've no concentration or patience for anything big - so I won't be doing the CAL, just cheering you on! Anyway I've returned to granny squares and I've amassed a little pile, ready to join and this is where it usually goes wrong.
What method do you experienced gurus use?

InTheNightWeWillWish · 22/01/2021 14:43

Myshitisreal given how slow I am at the moment, it wouldn’t be the worst thing to start on my Christmas crochet now Grin I’m always up for glittery wool but that might have to wait until I get paid in February now but hopefully by then I should have hopefully used the CAL yarn and have some space for new yarn Grin

PlinkPlink · 22/01/2021 15:12

CAL? KAL? As in Crochet-a-long and knit-a-long?

If that is what i think it is, that sounds exciting!!!!!

lazylinguist · 22/01/2021 16:48

Wow - more new people! Hello PlinkPlink and 3rdwave. Smile

Yes, PlinkPlink - about 6 or 7 of us are about to do a Crochet Along together, starting tomorrow! It's a blanket called A Spicier Life. We are starting at the same time, but are pretty relaxed about whether we keep up with each other or not! Grin

When I suggested the idea, I plumped for a CAL to start with, but I knit as well (in fact I'm more of a knitter than a crocheter really) so I'd love to do a KAL on this thread at some point too.

Hello all the new ones on here Smile sorry I'm awful at remembering everyone to tag haha!
That cat bed looked so cosy! lucky little cat bless her Thanks

Can't believe I'm actually excited to make a blanket, always hated them before due to starting many and finding them so boring that I've given up haha but all the stitches and colours of this one has me inspired Smile

PlinkPlink · 22/01/2021 18:17

Oooh id be well up for that @lazylinguist !! How exciting!!

carolinesbaby · 22/01/2021 18:51

Ohhh I've just looked up the CAL blanket and now I'm wishing I hadn't just started mine and could join in! It's gorgeous!

sophs29 · 22/01/2021 19:17

@Reachersloveinterest your blanket is stunning though! all those colours really pop with that pattern!

Scoobygang7 · 22/01/2021 19:35

Hi everyone mind if I join? I've just decided to try to learn to knit. Got myself in a tizz as I thought I'd end up with the wheat looking v stitches but was actually knitting garter stitches. So currently practiced long tail cast on, garter stitch, and purl last night and today.

I am currently trying the stocking stitch. I am hoping in 18 months when I am 40 I'll at minimum have knit a hat.

tizwozliz · 22/01/2021 20:25

Wow, lots of nice things posted. I've completed another animal this evening.

lucysmam · 22/01/2021 20:40

I'm sure you'll manage more than a hat before 40 Scooby!

He's fab tizwoz. How long did he take you? I feel very slow but wonder if that's 'in my head' because I have no idea how long it takes anyone else to produce something maybe 🤷‍♀️

What does everyone do with their yarn while they're crocheting/knitting? Mine is currently sitting with me in my chair & I unravel a bit as I go, but that doesn't seem the best option there is...

@lucy I am hoping so, but thought if I set my bar low, I should have more chance of reaching lol

lucysmam · 22/01/2021 21:09

I've found a pattern that I think might work up a bit easier than trying to diy - I'm just about to rummage for some yarn I'm not overly fussed about to make up the first leg and see how big it is (I'm using dk so it'll be smaller than the pattern but hopefully bigger than the others like dd2 asked for).

I'm a tad confused as to how 8dc in a magic ring = 16 sts though Confused. I've attached a pic & marked the first hurdle that has me stumped (there will likely be more!)

carolinesbaby · 22/01/2021 21:11

scooby once you've mastered knit and purl you can make pretty much anything!

lucysmam I've been wondering about getting one of those yarn bowls, my yarn sits in a carrier bag by my chair at the moment!

lucysmam · 22/01/2021 21:16

*8sc not dc 🙈 I might be tired!

CrochetBug · 22/01/2021 21:26

@lucysmam I guess that's a typo!

I keep my ball in my lap, I pull from the centre though so it doesn't roll all over the place.

Right I've found 13 colours for the blanket that I think look OK together? (I did find 15, but the other 2 clash)
I need 1 more. And I'm hoping these are all Aran. I'm not convinced that some of them aren't Chunky weight. I need to find a way of not losing labels Hmm

CrochetBug · 22/01/2021 21:30

Oops. Forgot the photo!

lucysmam · 22/01/2021 21:40

CrochetBug I think you're right; I also think I'm done for the night if I have to ask 🙈

Could you get some cheap stitch markers or safety pins & pin the labels to the balls so they don't go walkies? Pulling from the centre is a good idea; I'll try that next ball!

Reacher I've just been looking at some cheap bags, from China, with a hole in the top. I'd make one but not sure I can be arsed even though I have boxes of fabric upstairs I could use!

lucysmam · 22/01/2021 21:42

I didn't see your photo, that purple's really nice! What were the other two?

InTheNightWeWillWish · 22/01/2021 21:43

InTheNight thought process on Tuesday:

I’d like to do a project before the CAL but just a little one, I don’t want two big projects on the go at once. Ooo this one looks nice and friend would love it. “These crochet gloves are quick to make, taking only a 2 -3 hours to complete.” Perfect. Obviously I’ll be a bit slower than that but with weds, thurs and fri evenings I should be able to get these done then start my CAL on Saturday.

So... in reality, here we are, Friday night and I’ve made half of one glove, quietly asking myself why the designer lied to me 🤦‍♀️I should have stuck to granny squares!

crochetbug love the colours. Some of the balls look bigger than the others, can you double up on those colours than trying to find another ball?
