Oh, quick tips.

I superglued two magnets together to keep my darning needle safe. I also chained a long ch3 lead for my scissors so I can tie them To something and find them easily 🤓

I like the light coloured one on the bottom row Myshitisreal. I've seen the neck lights recommended before - I think I may invest in one at some point.

I've unravelled black altogether - how satisfying is it watching all the loops ping undone?! Grin it was annoying me trying to match the size of the loops since I've managed to do the majority of the others much smaller/better tensioned.

I'm going to do red tonight & start black again in the daylight tomorrow. I have an unexpected day off because of the snow & the girls will mostly be doing school work.

tizwozliz · 14/01/2021 18:36

I made a duck. I'm just picking things that I have yarn for right now as waiting for some stuff to come back into stock

That duck is fab!

sophs29 · 14/01/2021 19:04

@Myshitisreal I have one of those neck light things my mum got me for my birthday last year and I still haven't put batteries in it! you've encouraged me to do it later

And @tizwozliz I love that duck and the colours you've used!

Myshitisreal · 14/01/2021 19:07

Sophs29 get it lit! I just came on to say your wee cardigans are gorgeous. What didn't you like about the purple?

I would be asking for addresses from MiL and posting them . I need to get things out of the house once they are finished. Otherwise it drives me insane looking and picking at myself

sophs29 · 14/01/2021 19:22

Haha I will do @Myshitisreal although I wish mine was USB like yours! Grin oh thank you!!
The way the yoke was crocheted made the whole cardigan want to swing out like a full circle if that makes sense? So without the buttons it just looked all out of shape! Before when I've crocheted jumpers etc. They're not so circular and lay nice and straight!

That's a good idea! I could ask MiL but I know they're not super close friends, they were just very kind when I had my son in Nov and gifted him handmade cardigans!

tizwozliz · 14/01/2021 19:37

I can't really take any credit for the colours, they're pretty much the ones used in the pattern

lazylinguist · 14/01/2021 20:11

1, my new hug light

I've got one just like that! Dh calls it my boob light. Hmm Mine is USB rechargeable too.

@tizwozliz I really like that duck!

When are you all starting the blanket????

I think we'll probably just wait until everyone gets their yarn delivered.

lazylinguist it must have been you who suggested the light when I was struggling counting chains on the fingerless gloves I made! It was referred to as a boob light then Grin

MindyMalik · 14/01/2021 21:51

I've been looking at getting a light as my little ones is still in our room for now. On cold nights I've just come up early and started crocheting using my phone torch but trying to slip stitch into the correct stitch is really difficult.

Haven't crocheted in days my hormones are playing havoc and I'm having a bit of a low with all my pregnancy symptoms so I'm looking forward to this blanket I think it will distract me and doing it as a group will give me a focus. Being at home during lockdown and now being snowed in just not great timing. So can't wait to get into the blanket

I think the colours I'm going for in are a mustard two Grey's a light and dark and a white. In my head it looks like it will work but we will have to wait and see. But I am someone who tends to choose colours that reflect my mood and always have a story behind it so even if it isn't a great colour combo I think for me it will always be a reminder of what I was feeling at the time.x

lazylinguist · 14/01/2021 21:55

I don't use my boob light that often any more, as we have improved the lighting in the living room!

I have just been looking at the CAL pattern and wondering at what speed we'll work our way through it. It seems to be in 6 big sections labelled Part 1, Part 2 etc. Parts 1-5 each have 4 or 5 stitch pattern sections, each involving anything from about 3 to 11 rows. Part 6 is the border. Can't wait for my yarn to arrive!

My second sock project - I am so happy that I have got the hang of this. This is a cute pair with much finer wool. Let's see how it goes.

I will not join the CAL, but happy to witness all your successes. I will be ready for a KAL when you want to do it!

Hope all are well. Need to catch up with the thread!

@lazylinguist That cowl is so cute, exactly what I am looking for. Do you have a link for the pattern? I have promised my sister a cowl for her early morning horse work - she runs a horse farm and right now it is freezing cold in the mornings here in Virginia.

sophs29 · 15/01/2021 07:51

@lazylinguist I'll just be crocheting as and when I get a chance between looking after a nearly 3 year old and 11 week old ShockGrin but I'm hoping each row will work up quite quickly!
I'm not sure whether to do mine as an "ombré" effect or have white between each colour! I also can't wait for my yarn to arrive, not sure whether to start something else in the mean time Grin

lazylinguist · 15/01/2021 08:28

spamm I'm so glad the socks are going well! Here is the cowl pattern. It's ridiculously easy - a big chunk of stocking stitch sandwiched between two chunks of rib. I'm trying to use the whole ball of wool MIL gave me for Christmas, so I did as the pattern suggested and weighed the ball after I'd done the initial rib section, so that I know how much to leave for the one at the other end!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 15/01/2021 08:36

With the CAL, I strongly advise you to weave all the ends in at the end of each colour change. I did a big coloured blanket last year and the smug feeling when I got to the end and it was all done was amazing 😂

The striped baby blanket I've just "finished" on the other hand...? I want to cry at all the ends.

lazylinguist · 15/01/2021 08:56

Amen to that, @SoupDragon ! I got so fed up doing all the ends in one go at the end of my Seaside Stashbuster!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 15/01/2021 09:00

I simply can not describe the level of smugness involved 😂 It was a large circular "Mandela" style blanket with colour changes galore. However, the pattern actually said "cut yarn and weave in ends" at each change, so I did.

I didn't learn though, as the baby blanket proves. 🤦🏻‍♀️

carolinesbaby · 15/01/2021 09:07

Please May I join you?

I am desperately in need of a place to chat where there is no Covid and no home schooling and no work that is critical but not critical enough to warrant a school place.

I knit and crochet.

I currently have Attic24's Cosy Stripe blanket on my hook which is the biggest thing I ever started, and an Aran jumper for DS on my needles which is a lovely pattern that I'm making 2 sizes too big because it will take me ages!
All my wool stuff gets done very late at night when everyone else has finally gone to bed and I use it to de-stress.

tizwozliz · 15/01/2021 09:13

I go for an in between approach, so I'll do all the ends every 15 colour changes or so. I find doing it as I go a bit of a faff.

lazylinguist · 15/01/2021 12:16

Welcome, @Reachersloveinterest ! These threads are pretty much free of all that stressful stuff. Sounds like you've got some good projects on the go!

I tend to knit/crochet in the evenings in front of the tv with dh or while he's playing a game on the PS4. I also love knitting quite early in the mornings on weekends or in the school holidays before everyone else is up.

I'm barely working atm, so in theory I have a lot of free time (dc are 12 and 15 so don't need much help with school stuff), but I'd feel very guilty sitting around during the day knitting while everyone else is working, so I do housework and study (for my Spanish A Level, whenever that will actually happen Grin).

That sounds like a good compromise, @tizwozliz - I think I'll follow suit, even if it doesn't quite achieve @SoupDragon's indescribable levels of smugness. Grin

The awkward moment when the postman turns up with a yarn delivery (not the CAL) minutes before your zoom meeting and you’re too busy admiring your new yarn that you only remember to join the zoom meeting when your computer chirps at you! Then use the comfort break to have a proper look at your yarn instead of doing something productive, like getting a drink.
