I'll pass on the blanket CAL but happy for people to chat about it on this thread.

lucysmam · 13/01/2021 18:32

The yarn I ordered from WW last Weds has been delivered to my friend's house today so I reckon you'll probably get your orders fairly quickly (despatch email came yesterday & wool today). I'd post a pic but I was closer to home than her house, on the way from work, so will pick it up tomorrow.

I'm going to pass on the crochet along (this time) since I have a couple of things planned already but look forward to seeing how you're all getting on.

Thanks @lucysmam - good news!

My cowl may be boring me a bit to make, but it's going to be cozy and cheerful to wear.

@sophs29

Just looking at others who have done the spicier life blanket and this lady has done some beautiful ones but does her 'stats' mean she only used '611 grams' of wool?? or am I being thick Grin
Ha the stats are giving me a flashback to slimming world... “Wow, Sonya has only used 611g of yarn for her blanket and that makes her crocheter of the week. So Sonya, how did you do it?”

Love the jumper lazylinguist

It’s not finished as I need some buttons but the ones I like are all out of stock. However, for the time being I’m going to count this as done and I’ve finally finished a pattern and an actual project not just a collection of granny squares. And I didn’t undo the whole thing and start again, I did have to undo one row though! The lighting isn’t great for the finished photo, so the unfinished photo shows the colours a bit better.

That's lovely @InTheNightWeWillWish

inquietant · 14/01/2021 01:44

I will start my blanket pack whilst you're doing the CAL, i am absolutely dreading the starting chain and row one, after that it gets easier. I always miscount the starting chain, even when using stitch counters Confused

I am going to try to finish my hat this week, I went with the basic pattern one of my kids advised - 'make a circle to the same size as from wrist to tip of middle finger, then stop increasing' - and it seems to be working. I will be happy if that does work as my hat angst will be over!

Myshitisreal · 14/01/2021 02:59

The foundation stitch in crochet is a little piece of magic. I sit with a pen (or use safety pins at set intervals ) and tally every 10 or 20. Much easier to count or recheck and no fiddly chain. Changed my crochet life. Can be applied to most stitches, worth learning x

inquietant · 14/01/2021 06:16

Thanks @Myshitisreal I have heard of that but am not always the best at trying new approaches so just repeat the same frustrations!

Does it work ok with variable height wave patterns do you think?

sophs29 · 14/01/2021 08:13

Hahahaha @InTheNightWeWillWish yes! I thought it was some sorcery Grin but no, it seems it can be done! Hmm

SoupDragon · 14/01/2021 08:44

I pretty much always use a foundation starting row rather than a long chain as it is stretchier than a chain and gives a better finish.

Variable heights of stitches shouldn't be a problem - you complete one stitch for the chain and then complete the stitch you need to make so the height doesn't matter (the only thing I've not made it work for is if the first row includes chain spaces!). It also works for wave patterns that use increases and decreases although you do have to pay attention to make sure you put the increases and decreases in.

Another option is to make a chain longer than you want for the size of your blanket without counting and then you can undo any unused chains after you've crocheted into this starting chain. If the chain needs to be a certain repeat, I just count up to the repeat each time until I'm the right length. It's easier to count to, say, 10 than 280!

lazylinguist · 14/01/2021 09:18

Oh yes, the starting chain isn't fun! I've never heard of a foundation row - will check out that video. I hate the first knitting row too, especiallyon dpns!

sophs29 · 14/01/2021 09:26

Oh lovely colours @lucysmam Im currently using that yarn in your organza bags and I was surprised by how lovely and soft it is!
I might make some among us crew for my nephew if he's into it, or look for a pokemon one to make him! I have too many projects I want to do HmmGrin

lucysmam · 14/01/2021 09:38

That's good to see sophs, I haven't used it before but didn't want to spend too much in case I messed up!

I have two requests for ninjas and a bigger crewmate for dd2 once these are done for dd1. THEN I will start something else. Otherwise these will just hang over me!

lazylinguist · 14/01/2021 09:47

My children seem to have lost interest in Among Us already, so I'm quite glad I didn't start making crewmates! They are really cute though!

sophs29 · 14/01/2021 10:28

@lucysmam yes I was so surprised by it! the price was great for the quality!
On the plus side, you must be getting them done a lot quicker now you've done so many Smile

lucysmam · 14/01/2021 10:33

They are quicker now I've done so many; I'm just a bit short of motivation to continue doing the same thing. But I am determined to only have one thing on the go at a time!

tizwozliz · 14/01/2021 12:14

@sophs29 i learned to crochet in order to make my niece and nephew some pokemon figures

Oh my... there's Luffy! Might have to make one for DS2. What a shame ex left. He would have loved a Luffy!!!

lucysmam · 14/01/2021 13:34

Well, we have a snow afternoon so there's only one thing for it while I supervise dd2 in the garden, through the window.

I wonder how quickly I can get dd1's remaining crewmates done 🤔

sophs29 · 14/01/2021 13:41

Yes I think I'd be the same @lucysmam I lacked motivation recently too, I've finally finished making two cardigans/jackets for my MIL's friends but now because of bloody lockdown she won't be seeing them and by the time it's eased off they probably won't fit so I just didn't want to finish them - it didn't help that the pattern for the lilac one wasn't great so i just wasn't happy with the end result!
I'll attach a pic as I don't think I've shared any of my makes on here yet! Smile

And oh my god @tizwozliz that's perfect! My nephews favourite is Eevee! thank you so much!

Green is finally done; I have 2 rounds of black's left leg then his hat, backpack & helmet to do. Black's one of the ones that was turning out bigger than expected though (before I ran out of black yarn) so I've had to go up a hook size to finish off & the yarn's not an exact match.

The little toys are fabulous. I love seeing what people can do 😁 Amigurumi is on my to do list.

Two things to share today.

1, my new hug light. I can't do big overhead lights, I've real sensory issues so this has solved all my problems. Round the neck. The sides work independently and have a couple of levels of brightness. Amazing. Usb charges as well 👍🏼 perfect for beside a sleeping husband.

Secondly, my new wool I purchased while looking for other wool 😂 i was frantically looking for white wool and the ebay notification came up it was ending. In a moment of weakness I bought it. I bought other stuff of the same brand, it's 75%wool, 25 % acrylic and I really wanted to see if the DK was as nice. It's Turkish. Very pleased with myself

When are you all starting the blanket???? I've too many things on the go at the minute
