Turquoise ninja is finished. I'm not sure what to make of the bamboo hooks; I was definitely slower using them & they don't feel as smooth to use. I'm just scrolling Pinterest looking for something to make to store my hooks in so will probably try them for that.

My friend's asked me to make her a ninja & dd2 wants a crewmate with a balloon so I'll sloooowly work through the rest alongside I think.

@RiverSkater

May I join please, I've knitted on a French loom a lovely chunky scarf and while It was so easy and great to create something I can wear I can't work out how to cast off!

Can anybody a recommend a really clear video or instructions for this ?

Thank you!

Do you just mean a standard loom? Think French loom is only when it’s the tiny ones that make icord. Check out loom a hat on YouTube. She’s gots loads of instructional videos and they’re very clear.

I'm just finishing an amigurumi Spiderman for my DGS. I now have to make something for his two sisters! Thinking of doing a couple of Grobus (aka baby Yoda) from the Mandalorian

lazylinguist · 10/01/2021 08:20

I was wondering if at some point it might be worth doing an MN Knit-Along or Crochet-Along (or both)? I've never done one 'in real time' - i.e. I've crocheted a blanket that was originally a CAL but long after it was released. I like the idea of people all making the same thing at the same time though - sounds fun! And it could be something pretty newbie-friendly. What do you think? It would need its own thread, because clogging this one up with comments about the KAL/CAL would be annoying for anyone not doing it! I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not!

On a more positive note, i'm finally getting the hang of getting more seamless colour changes when doing stripes on amigurumi.

It really irritates me that you often see photos of lovely striped amigurumi creatures and they're always carefully photographed so that the 'seam' isn't seen.

For Mandalorian fans (or those with dc who are), these just came up on my Instagram feed.

I love those gloves, i got a baby yoda /grogu charm for xmas.

tizwozliz · 10/01/2021 09:30

I won't let the 46 year old Mandalorian fan in this household see those. He'll be on at me to take up knitting.

I will make a baby yoda at some point, i need to wait on my next yarn order first though, i haven't got the right shade of green.

CrochetBug · 10/01/2021 13:48

@lazylinguist a CAL/KAL would be fun. Not that I've got the hang of knitting yet. I started learning last week and got bored Grin

@tizwozliz how are you changing colours for the stripes? There's a technique I found which makes the change less obvious, ill just have to remember where it was as I haven't used it for a while. I think it involved slip stitching the last and 1st stitch of each round but I'd have to check.

tizwozliz · 10/01/2021 13:56

It's a method I found on PlanetJune some time ago

www.planetjune.com/blog/amigurumi-help/perfect-stripes-for-amigurumi-video/

But I've always struggled with managing it and keeping my stitch counts accurate in the past.

sophs29 · 10/01/2021 13:58

@lazylinguist I think that's a great idea! Although I can only crochet!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 10/01/2021 14:03

Ooh, those gloves 😍 but are they worth lace and up to 4 colours per row? 🤔

DH and DS saw them and want them so at least I'd get my money's worth out of the pattern with three pairs...

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 10/01/2021 14:04

Hello all!

Currently knitting a hat, couldn't find my 4mm circs so using straights and I'll stitch it up at the end. Nice simple moss stitch zig zag pattern, which felt like an easy choice when I picked it but i have the attention span of a gnat at the minute so keep having to stop and figure out where I am in the pattern. Hoping to finish it this evening after DDs in bed, she doesn't help with the concentration span issueGrin

@tizwozliz oh I think that's the method I was talking about! I spent ages making stripey legs for a doll.

CrochetBug · 10/01/2021 14:22

Actually it might not be. I don't know now. I read so many techniques I can't remember which one I did Grin

lazylinguist · 10/01/2021 14:40

@lazylinguist I think that's a great idea! Although I can only crochet!

Ok I'll have a think about it! I could start with a crochet one and do a knitting one later.

I'm thinking of making one of these little balls each day of lockdown. Obviously I need to catch up as I've only just thought of it but at the end of it I will have a Garland. Hopefully a very short Garland! Last time I made a virus shawl using a rainbow cake.

SoupDragon · 10/01/2021 18:28

It would actually make a great "temperature project" now I think of it. Maybe better than a blanket or scarf.

lucysmam · 10/01/2021 20:20

I like the sound of a crochet along lazylinguist :)

lucysmam · 10/01/2021 20:46

Crewmate brown with bear ears...only 4 to go & a ninja for a friend 🙄 Hopefully get most of the way through another tonight

CrochetBug · 10/01/2021 21:03

Aww I love the ears on that one!

lucysmam · 10/01/2021 21:14

Cute isn't it!?

I mis-counted the remaining ones it seems; dd2 would like a giant rainbow one with balloon Hmm. I've had a quick google but can't see a pattern in the first two pages so may have a go on my own.

If I can increase to 48sc without getting myself in a tiz then I think it'll be simple enough.

CrochetBug · 10/01/2021 21:22

Using thicker yarn and a bigger hook would make it bigger too. I've made a yellow one using DK and a 2mm hook and almost finished a lime one in aran with a 4mm hook and the size difference is amazing! I'll take a photo (wheni remember where yellow is)

lucysmam · 10/01/2021 21:28

It's the ball of rainbow dk she's after. I could unwind it then re-wind it doubled up maybe but then I risk running out (which would make me unpopular since I only bought one because I wasn't sure what I'd do with it, even though she said buy two "just in case" 🙄)
