Big thanks to @petridishmystery for that video link, yes it's a regular loom, always thought they were all French 😆
Video is really clear and I think I shall be able to cast off ! 🙏

@lucysmam

It's the ball of rainbow dk she's after. I could unwind it then re-wind it doubled up maybe but then I risk running out (which would make me unpopular since I only bought one because I wasn't sure what I'd do with it, even though she said buy two "just in case" 🙄)
Ah ok. It should be an easy enough pattern to size up. DS2 wants a 'giant' blue one. As big as his giant bunny that I made, not realising it would be half* the size of him Grin (he's 14 so not exactly tiny)

*maybe not exactly half, but it is huge.

lucysmam · 10/01/2021 22:00

Oh crikey. If I made one that big, we'd be hard pressed to fit dd2 in her room Grin. She has the smallest room in the house & it's over-run with a large variety of stuffed animals. & every time I make something, I have to make two because she decides she'd quite like one too Hmm

It's the yarn in the pic she likes; she's been eyeing it up over the past couple of days

lazylinguist I’d be up for a crochet along!

I never knew how long scarves were until I actually tried to make one! I’m halfway through 2 at the moment - one for me and one for DH. But I’m planning on making a further 3 scarves after that in Hogwarts house colours. At this rate it’s going to take me all year to get through 5 scarves.

Yay! She’s brilliant. Good knit kisses and tuteate are my other go-tos.

Working on this at the moment and it makes me want a swizzels drumstick

Oh @petridishmystery that's lovely! Is it made with velvet yarn?
Love the colours! And yes I see what you mean about wanting a drumstick haha!

lazylinguist · 11/01/2021 08:18

A couple of thoughts about a potential Crochet Along - they mostly seem to be blankets/throws, which are either in a kind of 'sampler' style with different type of stitch in each week's section (like the Seaside Stashbuster one I made) or one where you make a different square each week, then make them into a blanket at the end. I'd prefer the former (I hate sewing things together!). Is anyone up for that, or would a smaller project be better, that we could just turn into a crochet along?

It’s James C Brett Flutterby chunky which is a polyester chenille texture yarn. It’s soooo soft. I had a craze on it a few years ago and I’ve got loads left but I need to clear a bit of space so I’m trying to use it up! I also use it to make preemie baby hats.
CrochetBug · 11/01/2021 10:11

@lazylinguist I think a stash buster blanket would be best. We can always adapt the size to suit us, even making it narrow like a scarf. I hate sewing up too!

@petridishmystery I've got a couple of balls of that flutterby stuff. It's totally gorgeous but with only 2 balls I'll only be able to make something small!

I'm looking at a couple of possibilities that could be done as stashbusters but which I might choose to do in all one colour. I don't have anything like enough same weight yarns to do a blanket from my stash anyway!

A blanket pattern could also be adapted to a cushion as well.

I've just gone to place a yarn order and the yarn I need to finish off half finished projects is out of stock - gah!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 11/01/2021 13:20

tizwozliz that is so cute!

The Dino I mean!

MindyMalik · 11/01/2021 18:30

Hi I know I have been away for a bit but just been so busy with the kids it's hard to even get a minute to think with this lockdown.

So I mentioned earlier o had recently put an order of some yarn from Deramores anyway I think I am colourblind because I ordered yarn thinking to myself it was black but it's actually a deep navy blue.

I wanted to do a black and white granny square blanket I had seen something on Pinterest so wanted to try it out. But I've ended up ordering loads of skiens of this navy yarn and now I don't know what to do.

My question is will the navy yarn look ok with a white. And does anyone have any blanket ideas that they could share as inspiration to use up this yarn.

Thank you ladies X

Mina

SoupDragon · 11/01/2021 18:35

Some of the navy blues are really close to black - sometimes I've had to compare them to something I know is black in order to tell!

I think it would look fine instead of black though, given it's all navy blue rather than some black some blue.

lucysmam · 11/01/2021 18:47

I think navy & white will look nice. & SoupDragon's right; navy is sometimes very very close to black.

I work Saturdays in a local prom dress shop & we often struggle to tell the navy from the black.

CrochetBug · 11/01/2021 19:52

Personally I think navy and white is nicer than black and white.

How about the lost garden blanket

lazylinguist · 11/01/2021 19:53

Navy and white go really well imo - I probably prefer that combo to black and white!

I've been trying to find a potential CAL that is a) rows not squares b) in UK crochet terminology c) preferably free or at least not expensive and d) 'sampler' style so that there's a variety of stitches which will provide variety and texture even if it's done all in one colour. No luck so far!

CrochetBug · 11/01/2021 20:07

What about one of these?
The fantasy blanket appears to be US terms, but we would just have to do trebles instead of doubles.

Or how about this one. It's in UK as well as US terminology and it's free. here

I think thats the one I thought I had saved somewhere and now can't find Grin

MindyMalik · 11/01/2021 21:37

@SoupDragon when I opened it it looked black but when I looked closer you could tell it was navy.

@lazylinguist @lucysmam @CrochetBug thank you for the encouragement to continue to work with the two colours I was just worried that the white might be bright for the navy.

Are you all doing a group crochet along?????
sorry I'm still trying to catch up on the messages I have missed and I read a few but saw @lazylinguist message about a crochet along and thought group crochet along oooo exciting so had to ask......
I am a mum of three soon to be four so the little things in life excite me🤣

lucysmam · 11/01/2021 21:42

Hmmm, I'm not entirely sure I have a big enough stash yet for a stash buster (clearly I must buy more yarn so I do!)

I could trim down to cushion size whatever is decided on though...or scarf, I do like a snuggly blanket ish scarf!
