Haha @lazylinguist that photo! I'll remember that tip when I'm older and need to hide all my craft stuff! have to make sure I have a 'guest bedroom' Grin

SoupDragon · 07/01/2021 15:48

I have a large loft :o

tizwozliz · 07/01/2021 17:32

I love inside the factory, although i have to be in the right frame of mind to put up with Greg Wallace so i'll definitely check out that socks episode

petridishmystery · 07/01/2021 17:33

@lazylinguist

True. Although even when I have a reasonable yarn stash, I inevitably settle on a pattern which requires yarn I don't have! I've got plenty of yarn I could make all sorts of things with, but not the particular cardigan or jumper I'm hankering to start! Maybe I should restrain myself, have a sort through my stash and make something else.
I’m the same, I have so much yarn and yet I never have the yarn I need!
CrochetBug · 07/01/2021 17:39

@petridishmystery sorry you also have a 'heartbreak blanket. Men are such idiots at times Grin

I agree with @SoupDragon about building a stash when you can afford it. As much as aforementioned ex broke my heart he was always happy for me to spend our small disposable income on yarn. Hence I now have a yarn cupboard Grin

I started learning to knit but I got bored casting on. Crochet is so much quicker! Mum loves casting on, she said its the best bit Hmm

Suddenly I can't wait for a child to leave home!

Funny you should mention that. Dh and I were disputing earlier today whether he would get to turn dd's bedroom into a massive fish tank room when she leaves home, or whether I should get to turn it into a craft room. She's only 15 and will probably go to university and come back in the holidays. I don't think she was very impressed. Grin

In all seriousness though, I need to find a better storage solution for my knitting stuff. At the moment it's mostly in a very nice upcycled crate box thingy with an upholstered top, which my dsis bought for me (one of her friends makes and sells them). It's really not big enough though. I have a fairly spacious house. I need to claim a craft area!

Btw, massive fish tank room is Not. Happening.

Just dropping in to mention bag or box your stash in plastic and periodically check it and any stored knitwear... We had no carpet beetles for 10 years before they appeared. And webbing moth larvae briefly made an appearance after 15 years when DH brought some stuff in from the garage that had a nest (web?) and the only reason they didnt get a foothold and could be found and destroyed quickly was because it was in the dining room with no soft furnishings or carpets.

My house is now blessedly pest free aside from the children but everything is bagged and I'm a lot more paranoid about dust and keeping cupboards clearer.

Imagine an empty giant fish tank filled with yarn...
NiceCardigan · 07/01/2021 19:34

Well my DCs have all left home but their bedrooms look like they have just stepped out of them. DD2 appears to have a full wardrobe of clothes at home but never seems to have time to sort them out. Hmm

Shock Brilliant!

This is one of dh's two large fish tanks. For scale, the dog curled up in front of it is a big boy. When he bought this tank, the dc would probably both have been able to fit in it, at a squeeze. The other tank is a bit smaller. I think he has enough fish tanks. He disagrees.

We used to have a massive fish tank lazylinguist; I sold it on when only I ever did any maintenance on it.

I've finally finished pink. I think I've managed to do an extra round in it's body; it seems longer than the others, and miss a round off its left leg 🤷‍♀️

It should definitely be a yarn room. You could always crochet a couple of fish as compensation Grin

My mum and Step dad bought a 4 bed house to accommodate the 5 children they have between them. We all grew up and moved out, or on step sibs case stopped staying over. Mum turned the smallest bedroom into a craft room. Only they now have so many grandchildren that she's considered changing it back into a bedroom. Luckily having them all there at the same time was rare, and even more so with covid Grin

InTheNightWeWillWish · 07/01/2021 20:50

When you’ve really messed up a pattern, what do you do? My first attempt at a blanket and I’ve clearly missed some stitches. I’ve already joined in a second ball of wool (but joined without tying the first one off) and I’m over halfway through the bulk of the blanket. I don’t really want to undo all the blanket and start again because I’ve undone it several times and I’ve been working on it for weeks. It’s nice, soft wool (but fortunately not too expensive) so it seems a shame to waste the wool on a wonky blanket...

CrochetBug · 07/01/2021 21:07

If it was me I'd have to frog it and start again. But I guess it depends how wonky it is and how much it would bother you.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 07/01/2021 21:37

You might have to explain frog it to me, sorry! It’s pretty wonky and it’s going to bother me quite a bit. I don’t think a border is going to save it either. It’s an oyster shell pattern and I’ve started with 23 oysters and at the halfway mark I’ve got 19 oysters Sad
CrochetBug · 07/01/2021 21:38

Frog it just means undo it all basically.

lucysmam · 07/01/2021 21:40

Can anyone else see the missed stitches? & will it really irritate you every time you look at it, knowing they're not there?

If it was me, I think I would be inclined to take it right back to the first mistake I noticed otherwise it would annoy me.

I think I'm ready for a break from the Among Us crew; I started turquoise after posting pink but put it down again 5 rounds in. I was determined to only have one thing on the go at a time too

Because you “rip it”, geddit?!
lazylinguist · 08/01/2021 13:05

Because you “rip it”, geddit?!

I was Grin when I found that out as a newbie. That and the fact that undoing stitches one by one is called TINKing, because it's 'knit' backwards. Smile

InTheNightWeWillWish · 08/01/2021 17:01

Crochetbug thanks, was hopeful it was some magic stitch to hide all your wrong doings!

Lucysmam it’s quite clearly wonky. Even DH can tell it’s wonky. There’s no recipient for it yet, so if I do continue I could just make it a dog blanket but the yarn is a bit too nice for that (plus I’m not ready to admit I’m crocheting especially for my dogs yet). I’ve put it aside for the time being but I think I’ll undo it and start again but probably not for a little while.

petridishmystery now I do Grin

CrochetBug · 08/01/2021 17:24

@InTheNightWeWillWish I wish there was a magic mistake correcting stitch Grin

Is this the blanket you are making? I've just added it to my 'future project' list. I think mistakes would be very obvious though!
