Knit, Crochet and Natter Thread

I was hoping to join a local rl knit&natter group, and then lockdown happened. Sad But knitting and crochet are keeping me cheerful during lockdown and as the nights are drawing in!

There seem to be quite a few ongoing chat threads on other MN boards, so I wondered if there might be any interest in a rolling knitting and crochet thread, for anyone who fancies chatting about knitting, crochet and life in general of course! Total beginners and scarily experienced needle-wizards and everyone in between, all welcome.

Share your projects, yarn stash confessions, pattern niggles or newbie questions. Not sure if it will fizzle out after a few posts, but hey ho, worth a try!

Ah bruffin thanks for the pockets video! I don't know why I'm prevaricating - I know full well I'm not going to be able to resist making the Neville cardigan. Just got to finish the socks and knitted paperchain first. Nothing to stop me checking out yarn though...

I absolutely love the pictures shared on here. I have only recently got my knitting mojo back and my list for Christmas might be slightly optimistic. I'm trying to make the skeleton gloves, a peg bag, a crocodile and a dinosaur (they might end up being something different) and one more gift- a cowl, some socks or something.

My children are now 6 and 3 and they now let me knit when they're awake. Before I couldn't as with a toddler he'd always try and mess with the wool or generally be a pain so I can get some done when they're playing.

@northender @lonelyoversharer and @seacow bring your stashes.....

Sorry people - I appear to have gatecrashed and brought friends. Can I introduce a fantastic quilter, an amazing crafter /artist and quite simply one of the best cake makers in the country. I am just hanging onto their coat tails and bimbling along and having a whirl.

lazylinguist · 15/11/2020 21:01

The more the merrier, Unescorted! It seems your username is inaccurate. Bimble to the max.

There is no such thing as too much yarn - it is all good insulation.

Zebrahooves · 15/11/2020 21:17

I'd like to join. I only started crocheting two years ago. I've not had the time I would have liked this year (moving house and redecorating has taken up a lot of time). I also keep trying patterns that are too hard.

Would love to improve my skills. I've done arigurami and am trying a basic cardigan.

I have been guilty of buying wool and then forgetting what I bought it for 😳

Zebrahooves · 15/11/2020 21:17

Amigurami - autocorrect

northender · 15/11/2020 21:18

Ooh thanks unescorted I'm definitely in if you'll have me! I'm the quilter, but over half term have picked up wool and a crochet hook for the first time in almost 40 years. So far my blanket covers my feet 😂

Only if they turn up.... I may have to change my name to Billynomates

lazylinguist · 15/11/2020 21:20

Definitely, SDT.
I'm currently debating as to whether to put away my clean laundry mountain or shut the spare room door on it and knit until bed time. What do you think, fellow knitters and crocheters?

One of my many shameful yarn ‘nests’ as my dh calls them. I’m know it’s a tip😳

north thank you Grin

lazylinguist · 15/11/2020 21:22

I'm thinking I should have given the thread a better name... The Woolpack Inn or Mumsknit or something.

Unescorted · 15/11/2020 21:23

SDT you are right - I have buildings that use wool insulation.

lazylinguist · 15/11/2020 21:28

It's hard to knit with a cat on your lap. Also the light is terrible in my living room, but at least I have my boob lights, as my family call them. Hmm

Well, I managed to do some more of my sock, in spite of the cat.

northender - I know nothing about quilting. Is it difficult?

I'm sneaking in to join if I may...

Some gorgeous projects on here. I'm envious of the knitters as I just can't master it and I've really tried!

I started crocheting about 6 years ago and now can't go a night without picking a hook up. My latest project was a single colour 'Sophie's Universe' throw. I made 2 in tandem, both with King Cole Cottonsoft DK which is a lovely yarn. One on grey, one in oyster (pictured).

Both were requests from my sister so I know they will be well received.

That's so beautiful, CutCopyPastedLikeYou! It's funny how lots of people who knit can't get the hang of crochet and vice versa. I was the same for ages - crochet didn't make sense to me at all!

CutCopyPastedLikeYou · 16/11/2020 08:04

It is funny lazylinguist - although I do blame my impatience too.

Knitting seems so slow compared to crochet. I'd be toiling away at a knitted scarf fit ages and think "sod this, I could have crocheted a throw by now" Grin

My mum was a demon knitter. Really fast and accurate. She can't craft now due to ill health and she hates crochet with a passion although I'm dying to make her a lap blanket.
