Knit, Crochet and Natter Thread

I was hoping to join a local rl knit&natter group, and then lockdown happened. Sad But knitting and crochet are keeping me cheerful during lockdown and as the nights are drawing in!

There seem to be quite a few ongoing chat threads on other MN boards, so I wondered if there might be any interest in a rolling knitting and crochet thread, for anyone who fancies chatting about knitting, crochet and life in general of course! Total beginners and scarily experienced needle-wizards and everyone in between, all welcome.

Share your projects, yarn stash confessions, pattern niggles or newbie questions. Not sure if it will fizzle out after a few posts, but hey ho, worth a try!

I did that crafty class in person with at Woollin a couple of years ago lazy it was brilliant.

Crafty were doing a years membership for something ridiculous like 5 dollars when they relaunched so I subscribed. They're still offering a years membership for 8 dollars if you're interested - it's not an affiliate link, I don't get any money or credits or anything, they just keep emailing me about it so I have the link. As long as you remember to cancel it would be cheaper than the class itself go.craftsy.com/C25592/

I've done a couple of classes at my local shop too and I definitely prefer the in person ones but I did a few on spinning and dying on Craftsy and they were good.

Oh that sounds like it might be a good idea then - thanks Flavia! The mistakes course I saw was by the very same Ann Budd who wrote my fab socks book!

You're welcome! Oh I haven't seen that one, I must check it out, Ann Budd came across as really engaging as a teacher in the interview she did with Fruity Knitting.

I did the Laura Nelkin fixing lace mistakes one. She definitely comes across better in person than online I think, I found the online one she did a bit dry.

I'm just looking ahead to the end of my jumper and I'm a bit unsure about a section of the pattern. Hoping someone can clear it up! It says:

NECKBAND
*Change to 3 1/2mm needle, k 1 rnd and dec evenly spaced 19 sts -> 74 sts. Work 4 rnds moss st. Bind off loosely in k1 p1 rib
*

Does this mean knit 1 round first (with no decreases) and then knit 1 more round, decreasing by 19 stitches over that round (and working out yourself how to space them evenly between the 93 stitches you have on the needles Hmm)?

Or does it mean that the initial k 1 rnd is the decrease round? I'm confused! Blush

@lazylinguist I would interpret that as you decrease during that initial k round!

Glad I found this thread, hello!
Sock knitting guilt at the moment. Do you ever knit one sock and then get completely fed up of the project and lack motivation to start sock number two.
Anyway these socks were going to be for me anyway but my lovely mother must have spotted them pre Covid when I could see her and has now hinted for me to make her a pair.(her birthday is in February) So a bit disappointed as would have liked them for me but how can I refuse. So going to pick up my needles at some point and start that elusive second sock. I did treat myself a few month’s ago to more sock yarn and well they can be for me.
Also have a scrummy Attic 24 dune blanket to get going with. Had started but have decided it is too small and I want to do the other pattern to it where the colours all blend in.

P.s no one ever gets the hint that I would simply love crafty gifts for Christmas. I always buy for myself. Have done a few swaps in the past though on some crafty blogs and Instagram.

These are the old pair of socks my mum sent me in a message today as a hint she wants some new ones. It made me smile 😊 I think she is trying to get me to find my knitting mojo again!

I'm a bit late to the party but would love to join the thread if it's ok. My MIL taught me the basics of crochet about 2 years ago and I've made 4 Attic 24 blankets now and last year tried a cardi which is almost unwearable.
I'm about halfway through a top down crochet jumper so fingers crossed I can wear it when it's done Grin

Wow - fab socks, Midnightstar!
PinkPomegranate - the more the merrier! You just got in as the thread is heading for 1000 posts! I'm just off to start a continuation thread for when we run out of space. Will post a link to it here.

I'll try to put a picture here of the knee length socks I've just finished. They're not perfect but wearable. I untidily added more ribbing at the top of the first one as I hadn't made it long enough and I should have stopped the patterning by the toe sooner. But hell, they're wearable and cosy. I'll get better for future pairs.

I'm not a natural knitter. At one point I had to rip the needles out, undo and start a piece again as I dropped a stitch which couldn't be rescued.

@ginghamtablecloths they look great! My first couple of pairs of socks aren't the best fit but they are warm and that's what matters!

You might want to pop over to the new thread as this one is almost full. There's a link to it in the post above yours Smile
