Am going to order the Animal Magic book from Amazon. It looks like it would be nicer to do with markers for brighter colours. These are recommended in the Amazon reviews. Are they worth it?

Thanks!

It's great Testa loving the shading

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 09/07/2015 11:23

Ooh, I've been away from this thread for a while - some lovely looking colouring there Smile I have a couple of pics I've done recently, but only one is so far finished - will post when I get home

FeelingSmurfy · 09/07/2015 11:27

Really nice Eddie I like how each circle is a different colour, but the colours in each particular circle as similar...if that makes sense

BeedlesPineNeedles · 09/07/2015 11:52

I've been lurking for a little while and thought I should join in the fun with a picture, here is my frog! I'm mainly using polychromos, but I only have 36 so there are a few other random pencils as well.

Testa that has turned out really well! Love the wheat. So what do you think you prefer - pens or pencils?

Beedles I love your frog! Some really lovely colour choices there. I'm glad you decided to join in Smile

Difficult to say owl! I like the bright colours of the pens, but like the variation in shading/layering you can achieve with pencils! going for pens for my next picture, might just alternate!

Glad you all like my first attempt with pencils!

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 09/07/2015 17:39

Lovely shading Testa! I was out for breakfast with my dad today, and he treated me to The Secret Garden! Overjoyed I was! I keep stroking it and trying to decide which image to start with first....

Testarossa1 · 09/07/2015 19:29

Now I'm contemplating getting gel pens too! Seen some lovely effects on other people's work, fancy some metallics and some glitter ones. Anyone here use them? Can see a possible shopping trip this weekend!

Wagglebee · 09/07/2015 20:59

All the pictures are so good. Smile

I've been too ill the past couple of weeks to do any. Beyond frustrating. Sad So I need more photos of work in progress and shiny pencils to keep me going.

Wagglebee · 09/07/2015 21:00

I used a silver gel pen for the arrows and a sword on one of the enchanted forest pics. Really liked the effect.

FeelingSmurfy · 09/07/2015 21:21

That's really good Beedles

I think I'm going to have to have a go at pencils, but I hope that they work well for me as if they keep snapping and needing to be sharpened it will probably put me off for another 20+ years!

Wagglebee · 09/07/2015 21:27

feeling The Staedtler ergo soft pencils have a magic white bit around the coloured lead. Somehow it stops them from breaking when you sharpen them. No idea how but it works. Haven't had one break.

Wagglebee · 09/07/2015 22:32

Just looking at Morgan Davidson's Instagram and see she uses prismacolor pencils. Has anyone heard of or used them?

FeelingSmurfy · 09/07/2015 23:34

Ooo thanks Waggle I will order a set Smile

Wagglebee · 09/07/2015 23:41

Think they only do small (12 or 24) sets but the colours are bold and they're very good for blending. Smile

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 10/07/2015 17:34

Today's pic. The light doesn't show the tinting round the heart with pastels. I used a mix of spectrum noir, polychromos and staedtler noris pencils plus derwent pastels. I this is my second pic from the secret garden book, its just gorgeous.

Fantastic colouring everyone - have loved catching up on everyone's works of art after a couple of weeks away.

Annual bonuses have just been announced at work and by way of celebration, I've ordered the 120 polychromos Blush

This is a work in progress but I'm enjoying it. It's very fiddly and not as good as I want it to be, but I do like the colours. Have family staying this weekend so not sure if I'm going to be able to do the remaining fish until Monday Sad

Eddie I think that's one of my favourites ?? Love it!

Gorgeous ALovely that castle needed to be pink.

Shoop Lovely colours, looks like it took ages.

I'm feeling a bit sad that I still haven't done any more recently. I intend to do some and then when it gets to it I feel too tired and achy. Making it my priority tomorrow. Everything else can wait. It's therapeutic after all. Grin

Been for a trip to WHSmiths, came back with all this! took ages choosing books as I could only afford 2, then got gel pens and some pencils. I've got a pack of 48 faber castell ones, but hoping these will work alongside them ok as can't afford anymore FC ones! my OH is rather bemused by my new hobby, but happy to indulge me!!
