Am going to order the Animal Magic book from Amazon. It looks like it would be nicer to do with markers for brighter colours. These are recommended in the Amazon reviews. Are they worth it?

Thanks!

Ohhh look I forgot to do the tiny snail!

I enjoyed doing this one.

I enjoyed getting ideas stealing from that pinterest link.

Sallystyle · 06/07/2015 07:48

Frog took about four days. It was quite a quick one to do really as not much fiddly bits like tiny flowers. I don't colour for a long time in one go as it makes my hand hurt and I now have a lovely hard lump thing on my finger where my grip is too tight!

Everyone's colouring in is lovely! I think we are improving loads!

I really did find it helpful to look at the link I posted and try to copy ideas. I picked up a few new ways of shading.

Thanks, Nana and Waggle. I've been saving the double-page Celtic designs for last. One more and the book is finished. :(

Here's my first attempt! Not 100% happy with colour choice as some of the pens were darker than I expected (plus the pattern went wrong on the green one in the corner) but overall I like it, and don't think it's too bad for my first try. Going to do the next one with pencils and see what I prefer.

Lovely work Testa and Eddie! Really like your shading Eddie. Testa, let us know how you go with the pencils, I'll be interested to see if you feel the same way as me!

I've just bought an art nouveau colouring book. I'm undecided on pens or pencils, but more used to using felt tips. Any recommendations?

For many years I've been advocating colouring in for a destress. There was one rubbish colouring book on amazon that wasn't too childish. Now there are tonnes of them. Finally the world has listened.

Testarossa1 · 07/07/2015 11:46

Loving the pencils! Only just started this one, wanted to get people's opinions on my first ever attempt at shading/blending/layering (what ever you call it) I'm so not at artist, so please give me pointers to improve!

I'll post the picture when completely finished.

Having been informed on a Facebook group that my pumpkin looked like it was sitting on a pumpkin so I've added to it. 2nd attempt!

Not sure what they meant Testa but the second one does look better, think the bit on bottom right is part of that pumpkin too

Testarossa1 · 07/07/2015 14:47

Thanks for pointing out the bit I missed!!

FeelingSmurfy · 07/07/2015 15:22

I was in two minds but I know I would appreciate being told, I usually get to the end then spot something and it bugs me!

Waffly - Art nouveau colouring book sounds lovely. I'd say pencils, partly because I prefer them, but I think it might suit the colour tones better.

Like the pumpkin, Testa.

Thanks Blue. Smile

I used 3 different oranges. I don't have a blending pencils but somebody else on Facebook sad you can use a white pencil as a sort of blending/softening pencil, so I'm having a go with that. Will post a pic of the finished picture when it's done!

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 08/07/2015 15:46

Finished this one in Animal Kingdom over a couple of days. I used polychromos and spectrum noir pencils.

Finally finished. Hadn't clocked it was a double spread when I started. Had a go at shading/layering, which is easier with pencils obviously, but does take longer to complete a picture than pens. Overall I'm pleased as a first effort, though think I got a bit carried away with shading the wheat sheaf!!
