Am going to order the Animal Magic book from Amazon. It looks like it would be nicer to do with markers for brighter colours. These are recommended in the Amazon reviews. Are they worth it?

Thanks!

Can't wait to get home tomorrow, had emails to say my pens and pencils have both been delivered, so looking forward to trying them out!!

Do people keep their pens/pencils in the box they came in, or buy a pencil case?

OwlAtEase · 04/07/2015 13:17

Toasty and Testa mine are stored in their original tin/packet, in a drawer in my coffee table. I like how the colours are kept in order that way, instead of being thrown together in a pencil case.

Cuphat I don't have the polychromos yet, but my plan is to get the 120 set because I don't think I'd regret having too many colours!

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 04/07/2015 13:47

Those pintrest ones have made me despair, yet another good reason for not joining! I shall keep on looking at all your lovely drawings on this thread, which give me inspiration but not blind panic...

Right, gel pens, does anyone remember the pentel ones? They were really popular around 2000/2001, and they came in sets of 6: metallic, pastel, fluro, and normal. They had thin barrels and were bloody beautiful, and I am INTENSELY annoyed that that they no longer exist. I used to use them in school to make my work beautiful...

Invested in 20 fine liners today might give it a go tonight when dh is out (so he can't laugh at my lack of any artistic creativity)

FeelingSmurfy · 04/07/2015 17:00

I have always used crayola pens, they last well and give a nice bold colour

I haven't had a chance to colour in weeks and I'm itching to get back to it! My art therapy magazine arriving today didn't help!!!

I now have 1, 2, 5, 6 & 7 plus my giant poster and board (which will really come in handy!)

I like that the art therapy magazines give you single pages to colour, I find that easier than a book. It also means that the colour can't go through on to the next page, but its good quality paper so that doesn't matter anyway. The subscription includes a set of gel pens (colour wheel, wooden board, large poster to colour and something else) I have never coloured with gel pens before, I used them to write with but that's it, have seen a few people using them in the thread though

Get the 120 Cup

There are some colours that are very similar but you won't regret them. I think you might regret it if you only get the 60.

cuphat · 04/07/2015 18:54

Thanks Owl and U2. Very true. Decision made!

addictedtosugar · 04/07/2015 19:31

Very basic compared to the rest on here, but attached is (hopefully, never done this before) my art therapy attempt.
I have ZERO artistic talent, but enjoy the colouring - I had been known to finish the kids pictures, but the adult ones are much more satisfying.

Oh, and the blue background came pre printed in the book :)

SmileAndNod · 04/07/2015 21:24

Crikey addicted that's fantastic! I think I've ordered the same pencils from Amazon to try out and they should be delivered tomorrow along with a couple of books. Guess what I'm doing on MondaySmile

Wagglebee · 05/07/2015 02:07

Wow addicted that must've taken ages. It's gorgeous.

I hadn't heard of the art therapy thing until this thread but spotted it in the newsagents today. I didn't fancy the pics in this month's but it looked really good, especially with the pencils so I'm keeping my eye on it.

Had some anxiety today so I plan to devote tomorrow afternoon to some calm colouring. Smile

Wagglebee · 05/07/2015 02:10

Actually I kept the anxiety at bay but it was trying to sneak in, so I think a chilled out afternoon is in order.

I too thought I was the only adult colouring person but can see I'm in good company. I suffer from depression and on bad days it's the only thing that distracts me (I do it on good days too..!) I'm a bit obsessed really. I get my books from Amazon and am not so keen on the Animal Kingdom type books. I like Angie Grace or Dover Colouring books, but I've tried all kinds.

Thing is I always use felts/brush pens and have all sorts of different kinds. Pentel felt tips from Amazon are amazing and last for ever (about £15) and I've recently bought some Faber Castell fine tips, which are also lovely. Also like brush pens BUT I've never tried coloured pencils and somehow don't really like the idea, but seeing all this about these wonderful coloured pencils U2 please tell me whether they're worth the money - do you have to keep going over and over to get the colour you want?

Sallystyle · 05/07/2015 10:47

They are worth the money.

You do not have to keep going over to get the bright colour.

If you use a light touch you get a less vibrant colour but a harder touch gives you the vibrant colours.

If you have a hobby craft near you then you can buy some single pencils to try out. I think you can buy singles online as well. I don't think you will be disappointed in them, they really are wonderful.

I think childhood memories of school pencils which snapped as soon as you put them to paper after sharpening has put me off! This thread has encouraged me to give pencils another go

FeelingSmurfy · 05/07/2015 15:27

A friend has just given the kids a pack of postcard sized pictures, but one was just begging for me to colour it! Lol who needs adults colouring books Wink I was just teaching the kids to share...honestly...

That's fun, Smurfy :)

I finished my Celtic pattern and went on to a floral design. Unlike anything I've done for a long time but I really enjoyed trying out different shading and colour effects.

Really nice U2 I love the lily pad

janice1st · 05/07/2015 22:00

I got my self a adult colouring book the other day meant to help with stress gotta say I do find it relaxing brilliant idea I think keen to try other options for adults stress relief

FeelingSmurfy · 05/07/2015 23:43

What sort of technique do you all use when colouring? I always do the outline carefully and then colour the middle (don't have to be as precise as edges already done so won't go over) so I would do the edges of one leg then fill it with colour, with the green body I did the outline of body AND around all of the circles before doing the full colouring in bit

NanaNina · 06/07/2015 00:24

LOVE the from U2 - I think I'm going to buy 12 of those posh pens from Amazon to see if I like them, but might try Hobbycraft to try them out there and then. Can I ask how long it took you to do the frog - looks so perfect - must have taken hours. And blueeyeshadow I love your Celtic designs and again must have taken you hours.

Wagglebee · 06/07/2015 00:36

Love the combination of colours you've used on your flowers Blue It's another one I think would look at home in a frame on the wall.

U2 Fab Frog! Smile
