Am going to order the Animal Magic book from Amazon. It looks like it would be nicer to do with markers for brighter colours. These are recommended in the Amazon reviews. Are they worth it?

Thanks!

Parents have offered to buy me the 120 tin of polychromous for my birthday Grin

eeyoredebbie · 27/06/2015 22:42

Mrs NcGregor the staedler fine liners are great but only for detailed work. Check Amazon prices before purchasing from elsewhere. These were all done with them as well as the breathe photo earlier in thread

Here is attempt 1 with the lovely reward pencils! I reckon there is a strong element of placebo, but they are lovely and bright and do blend and shade really nicely. My talent doesn't match them yet... but one day!

Owl, Have the subliminal messages had any impact yet? Is your dh loitering in stationery aisles without realising? Surely it is only a matter of time...

Train! I love how you extended the glow of the sun out into the sky. Very very nice.

Reveal, that is great, I love your shading on the leaves and flowers! I'm not sure if the messages are working yet. DH is in Spain at the moment for work, he asked if he could bring anything back for me and I said "PENCILS". So I think that was a nice subtle hint.

It's ok Train, I've pointed out the specific ones I want (and creepily whispered it while he was sleeping... "polychromosssssss..... polychromosssssssss") so he wouldn't get airport ones! He knows I was just teasing when I suggested pencils (and Spanish gold doubloons). I think we can get them cheapest on Amazon, anyway. If he brings me back some airport chocolate I'll be happy Grin

Everybody's pictures are looking so lovely and some very talented people. I haven't been able to colour much this week because we had guests staying with us, but they left last night so I got to chill with my book this morning. I feel more relaxed already ????

flip there are some lovely examples on this page!

This thread is getting near to its expiry date. Worth asking for it to be moved now?

Bearfrills · 28/06/2015 13:25

I've gotten these from WH Smith

www.whsmith.co.uk/products/whsmith-artists-colouring-pencils-pack-of-36/24028318

They're showing as out of stock on the website but there were plenty instore and for only £6.49 for 36.

The difference between these and the ratty kids pencils I was using is astounding, and these are the bottom end of the scale so I can only imagine how lovely something like the Poly's must be.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 28/06/2015 17:19

Wow, love the pics! I can't decide if I prefer the subtlety of the pencils or the vibrancy of the pens, they're both lovely in their own way aren't they.

I've finally finished one of mine (from Doodle Invasion using Faber-Castell Polychromos and a Prismacolor colorless blender). Now have to decide which one to do next.

For anyone who is after a copy of The Enchanted Forest, i picked up one yesterday in my local sainsburys for a fiver!!

DawnMumsnet · 28/06/2015 22:30

Hi there,

We said a while back that we'd move this thread over to our Arts and Crafts topic so it doesn't disappear.

We think now's the time.

See you all over there. Bring your felt-tips! Grin

You lot are a bad influence! I ordered a couple of books on amazon yesterday but dragged DH and DD into the Works this morning to get more. And then to the Range to get some staedtler fine liners. My purse is empty Grin

Wagglebee · 28/06/2015 23:34

Oooh, I'm off to my local Sainsbury's tomorrow, I wonder if they stock itSmile

FeelingSmurfy · 28/06/2015 23:59

I have a subscription to art therapy magazine, but it doesn't feel like it! I think I have had 1, 3, 6 & 7 so far! Also had the poster but none of the other subscriber gifts. Not happy Sad have been putting off calling them as last time they didn't really understand me and I didn't really understand them. I know they said they had more copies requested than expected but would have expected that to be sorted out weeks ago!

Loving all the pictures, have read all 25 pages. I prefer pens as I like the bold colours and can't press hard with pencils as my hand cramps just using pens/pencils normally

OwlAtEase · 29/06/2015 01:15

Littlemonkey my DD loves your pic, she keeps saying 'want to see THAT one, mummy'!

Bollocks, I think that is one of my favourites, you have absolutely convinced me these pencils are the best! I love how they have the vibrancy of pens but you can still shade and blend with them.

littlemonkey2013 · 29/06/2015 07:44

Aww owl that's so sweet, I decided opposite colours for the next one.

I'm preferring the instant bright colours of pens for the patterns but I think if I had more pictures I would be needed some expensive pencils as my bob standard ones take a lot of effort to get depth.

golly there's some lovely pics here

We should ask MN to edit the title to warn MNers finding the thread to apply for a loan before they start reading...

too right

I've ordered Enchanted Forest ahead of the end of Dry June (well it's so close!!) but will wait for the difficult decision as to which pencils to buy til it's actually completed.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 29/06/2015 09:12

Ok, here's my first effort (be nice!) Smile I think I'll look up some pencil techniques.
