Am going to order the Animal Magic book from Amazon. It looks like it would be nicer to do with markers for brighter colours. These are recommended in the Amazon reviews. Are they worth it?

Thanks!

^^ Lovely!

I've got the Mindfulness colouring book to tide me over, but finding reather weak compared to Enchanted Forest... in fact, using cheap pencils on it and saving my fineliners and watercolour pencils.

Waiting for my Art Therapy colouring book to arrive now :)

Wagglebee · 20/06/2015 19:57

The ad I'm getting at the top of this thread is for colouring in placemats. Like I need any encouragement to buy more stuff.

I think they're for kids but they'd keep me busy during dinner. Grin

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 20/06/2015 20:06

I just wrote a message and it dissappeared :( grr. The short version is: lovely colouring everyone, here is my current wip, experimenting with gel pens, I want swanky pencils...

Love the butterflies so far Reveal

Shoop my picture was done with the staedler fibre tips which have a thicker tip than the fine liners. Sorry if my post was confusing

But both packs are great and come in the same colour range. They also do a 30 pack of the fine liners

My breathe was done with the fine liners

Both gorgeous pictures. The butterflies look like they were done with pencils, they look blended. Really like the colour choices. Smile
Love the bold colours again Eeyore which book is that from? I think I'd like to do some lettering.

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 20/06/2015 23:20

It's mainly pencils (sorry confusing post!) but highlighting in gels - am not sure about them as the highlights can't be shaded, so only really works in small areas. pen people, when I've done pen I generally find it looks crap where I've unavoidably had to go over the same bit with two strokes - how do you solve that, or are you just making it work for uou?! I love the boldness of pens but like the depth of pencils too. Have tried both on same picture but I just got cross...

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 20/06/2015 23:29

And eeyore that's from art therapy mag isn't it?! I haven't braved the lettering ones yet, they are still nestled in my folder! Love the bold colours.

OwlAtEase · 21/06/2015 02:14

Train that is looking amazing!

Reveal I showed my 2 year old DD your butterflies and she said "oh! VERY pretty!" Grin

Wagglebee · 21/06/2015 03:16

I'll have to find this Art Therapy mag.

Wagglebee · 21/06/2015 03:17

I see Reveal your post does make sense, I speed read it earlier. I'm liking the effect. Do you prefer gel pens or fine liners?

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 21/06/2015 09:06

oo good question! I think if I could get felt right I would probably prefer them as you can get a tiny but of tone and cover large areas quickly. as i can't get them right it is probably gel pens atm! Def still coloured pencils overall tho. I want to try mixing, some pps (sorry can't remember who!) did some lovely mixing upthread.

Meerka · 21/06/2015 10:12

reveal about going over the same bit with pens and it looks crap - I havent found a total solution to that, but getting very good quality pens helped. with these, if you colour in a space once, you get one shade and then you can go over it again and get a distinctly darker shade. So I tend to do that, sometimes.

Also the Art Therapy Colouring book goes in more for very detailed stuff so you're not really doing large blocks of colour at once. (Im curious as to what the Animal Kingdom will be like)

Also when doing things like curved shapes, following the line of the curve when you colour in seems to help a bit. Somehow when the lines overlap it seems less obvious.

those are the only hints I know of ..

ALittleFaith · 21/06/2015 12:10

You lot inspired me, I found a 'calm' adult colouring book in The Works yesterday. It's all patterns, I started last night. I can't believe how therapeutic I found it. I'm constantly on the go, I am learning to crochet which helps but new stitches can take a lot of concentration. I started colouring last night and I love it!

Wagglebee · 21/06/2015 12:52

I'm going to get done gel pens to try Reveal I like using them to write with, they're so smooth. Just have to try not to smudge them.

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 21/06/2015 13:08

The smudging is a massive pain! If you are using other media I would suggest doing everything else first and gel last - and like nail varnish, allow longer than you would think for it to dry! I love the metallic/glittery ones as they are so different and eye catching.

Meerka good tips! what pens would you suggest? Are you another using the steadtler ones? Felts or fine liners?

Meerka · 21/06/2015 14:36

Im using Stabilo, I bought them before this thread was started and hadn't heard of the Staedtler. Not sure how they compare. They're felts but with a very fine tip, so you can either do v fine work or hold them a bit on the side and colour in more broadly.

eeyoredebbie · 21/06/2015 19:55

Yes all my pics are from art therapy mag up to and including issue 5. Just done these today as quick scribbles.

Not sure how easy it will be to get hold of art therapy mag now. The trend to stop stocking them in shops and a few people have had probs with the subscription. But there is a Facebook page where all the images are available

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 21/06/2015 20:41

Thank you Meerka! I have some berol ones (like the school ones) which I might have a crack with, see if I get on better with them.

Eeyore I'm a subscriber but it has been random - I've had issues 1-3, 6 and 7 so far! I love the pictures though, and actually really like that they can be separated into sheets, it feels better than a book for some reason.

Oo miss muffet they are so similar! Love your colour choices, so bright!

00100001 · 21/06/2015 20:48

I'm making a start on some flower pictures after my comic book pages.

I've just had an email from Hobbycraft, to tell me all about their new range of adult colouring books!

Maybe they have seen the thread. Grin

ShoopShoop · 22/06/2015 06:26

I still have no voice - I alternate between only being able to squeak and then suddenly turning into a drag queen with a 40 a day smoking habit....

Love all the pictures you've posted.

Here's my latest effort, using the fine liners and then also some metallic markers I had left over from writing Christmas cards last year.

Enchanted Forest arrived yesterday too and it's stunning. Such beautiful designs.
