Am going to order the Animal Magic book from Amazon. It looks like it would be nicer to do with markers for brighter colours. These are recommended in the Amazon reviews. Are they worth it?

Thanks!

I like your butterflies ALovelyTrain. I can't do subtle at all, but the doodle book doesn't really require a gentle touch! Maybe that's why I was drawn (excuse the pun Wink) to it.

I am using the staedtler pencils. I tend to press very hard to get the darker shades and I haven't had a single breakage yet. I'm delighted with them but they are running down quite quickly so I don't expect then to last very long.

Yes to the viewfinder thing! I always look at the photo and realise I've still got loads to do.

Meerka · 15/06/2015 14:04

Yes lovelytrain, I'm always missing bits =) some of the designs in the Creative Therapy book are really complex!

such lovely pics you all post

ChuckyDuck · 15/06/2015 14:23

ooh I'm glad I've found this thread! I treated myself to a creative colouring book and big pack of gel pens a couple of weeks ago and am now obsessed!

I've added fineliners and felts to my pencil case but prefer using the gel pens, although they seem to run out quickly.

Tempted to try some pencils now as well Grin. I head straight to the stationery aisle in every shop I go in!

Sallystyle · 15/06/2015 15:50

You guys are awesome!

I am working on a big huge double sided picture right now from the Secret Garden book.

Plonkysaurus · 15/06/2015 15:54

This really is an expensive thread! I've been enjoying the Secret Garden with my fineliners til now, but I've been inspired to get Doodle Invasion and some of those triangular staedtler pencils.

After seeing how well posters on here are colouring with crayons I couldn't not!

AgathaChristie01 · 15/06/2015 15:58

I agree it's an expensive thread Grin. Every time I see something new mentioned, I have to go and look it up, and fight temptation!
I have pens, colouring pencils and paint pens. I REALLY don't need anything else.
I find myself in the stationery aisle in shops, and in my local art supply shop all the time lately. Loving it!

This really is an expensive thread!

Mumsnet is expensive! it's cost me a fortune in children's and adult's books and now there's the pencils!

On Saturday night someone asked me for some black paper. It was very important they had black paper, I didn't have any so I coloured a sheet of A4 in with a marker. It was AMAZING FUN Grin

Haven't read the thread, btw.

Awks · 15/06/2015 19:43

Am def going to buy one of the books now!

00100001 · 15/06/2015 19:51

And my other WIP. No shading on this one.

His trousers are a different colour because I only just realised I used dark pink instead of red!

LadyBaelish · 15/06/2015 21:59

Lovely pictures everyone! I especially like Gerald the snail Grin

I've sliced my thumb so finding gripping pencils a bit tricky at the moment but got my eye on a few pictures ready to start again soon!

ShoopShoop · 15/06/2015 22:40

Love the WIP Binary. I'm literally counting down the hours till my Amazon haul is delivered tomorrow. I "may" have arranged to work from home especially so I can take delivery Blush. I was in Sainsburys tonight and bought The Simple Things (?? I think) magazine to take on holiday with me. It has two patterns to colour in. I haven't opened the package yet but hopefully they will be a nice thing to do over a glass of sangria or three, when DD is snoozy..... Also packed my cross stitch to take.

Does anyone else feel they live a double life sometimes?! I'm a senior manager in a very male dominated profession. I can talk football and fast cars like the best of them, (but am actually genuinely interested in sport etc)........if only they knew however I get my kicks at home thoughWink

Wow... I love it U2TheEdge...I too am loving my new hobby and this thread is the business!! What book is that from?

Sallystyle · 16/06/2015 18:40

It's from the Secret Garden :)

ShoopShoop · 16/06/2015 19:08

It looks fab U2TheEdge - really lovely. All my bits arrived today and I'm so pleased with them. I started on the fox in the Animal Kingdom book.....but it was a very hard decision!!

TheTravellingLemon · 16/06/2015 19:12

It looks amazing U2 and I love all the colours. Great choices Smile

Sallystyle · 16/06/2015 19:36

Thank you.

I like shading the bigger areas but find the tiny leaves and flowers to time consuming to shade much. I feel like I am improving.

My son is bugging me to do my own Gerald the snail. I don't normally let him read threads here but I let him look through this one as he is quite into it as well. And it is the most laid back MN thread ever Grin

I love it Train - the layering is really effective.

Here's my effort from today. Bit rubbish and if I was to do it again I'd have chosen different placement of colours. I haven't attempted shading / layering / anything clever yet.

I love the pencils and am now seriously hankering after the set of 100.....

ShoopShoop · 16/06/2015 22:39

Oops - tin of 120. Even more loveliness!

Wagglebee · 16/06/2015 23:01

Ooh those colours you've all chosen are gorgeous. Lovely and vibrant.

Are those the pencils you've used on the fox Shoop? They're so vivid, I thought you'd used fine liners at first.
