Am going to order the Animal Magic book from Amazon. It looks like it would be nicer to do with markers for brighter colours. These are recommended in the Amazon reviews. Are they worth it?

Thanks!

I have been using my white pencil to blend

TheTravellingLemon · 14/06/2015 21:48

binary I haven't tried that, do you find it dampens the colour at all?

eeyoredebbie · 14/06/2015 22:04

Hi fellow colourers! My DH bought me the Staedler triplus felts to accompany the fineliners I already had so I've used them to finish the top of this pic, the bottom bit was done with Wh smith felts. I'm still loving my art therapy mag so I don't have time for any other colouring. The Joanna Basford books are very tempting though!

So here is Ra the Egyptian sun god

A pencil to blend.

Sallystyle · 14/06/2015 22:06

Not a crayon. It really does work. I don't bother using my blender now.

Sallystyle · 14/06/2015 22:09

Sorry for serial posting. Had two glasses of wine at a BBQ and not really with it.

Using a white pencil doesn't dull the colour as long as you use a light touch. It just makes everything look smoother so you have no blunt edges when shading.

TheTravellingLemon · 14/06/2015 22:15

I think I'll give it a go on my next one.

Great pic eeyoredebbie. Can you easily tell the difference between the staedtler ones and the WH Smith ones?

MrsMcGregor · 14/06/2015 22:38

Love that picture Eeyore

You lot are bad news for my Amazon basket! I've just added Doodle Invasion to it! It looks like it would be great for my, as yet unused, fineliners! Both DDs (7) have asked me to get them an Animal Magic book of their own for the holidays Grin.

Thanks Lemon I love both to be honest. The Staedler are better quality and lovely bright colours but smith ones are lovely too, cheaper and a wider rAnge of colours. But the Staedler ones don't bleed which is great!
Depends what sort of picture you want to colour. I find it difficult to get 'natural' colours from any felts but they really pop out from the picture

eeyoredebbie · 14/06/2015 22:43

Thanks Mrs McGregor
Have you, or anyone, got any gel pens yet? I can recommend them for detailed pictures although you have to let them dry and be careful of smudging

couldntbebothered · 14/06/2015 22:48

Another colourer lured to the thread...now I like the look of these doodle type books, apart from doodle invasion, any others people recommend not so I can buy more than one, noooo

I have the creative colouring book for grown ups, lots of geometric patterns and repeating flower/butterfly pictures, which are good to do but I'm a bit obsessive about making the colours repeat or follow a pattern too...hence I think another style of book would be good for me to not worry about that so much!!

Wagglebee · 15/06/2015 01:18

Welcome to the colourerers thread! Cake

U2 and Binary Thanks for the tip. Going to try a white pencil on the next one.

I finished my first page in the Enchanted book. Trying to decide which one to do next. whilst eyeing up more books on Amazon

I found an amazing 'Islamic Design' book set up for the pages to be removed and coloured in. I found really relaxing. Plus the fascination of endlessly repeating patterns.

Here it is -

I found it in a library sale some years ago for DD to help with her hand to eye coordination - she only did about two of them, so the rest are mine!

REally good fun, weirdly.

OwlAtEase · 15/06/2015 12:08

That is gorgeous, ALovelyTrain!

00100001 · 15/06/2015 12:09

Good work train - the blending works well.

I've been lurking on here a while and now I have to post... I am not just a colourer (again) but an enabler! I ended up ordering the Art Therapy book which arrived Friday, and some nice Faber pencils (although not the super nice ones, they're in my basket waiting :D)
I had my son and his step-sister staying this weekend, and somehow I ended up buying them both a colouring book each, DS got the animal kingdom one and his Step-sister the Art Therapy like me - it got them off their devices even! I am ashamed to say I directed them to their own pencils and hid mine... I've spent 3 evenings on one picture and am nearly finished, so will show my picture off this evening.
Thank you for the thread OP, I've enjoyed the reading of it, the looking at all these wonderful creations and having my own colouring book again immensely. :)

I had no idea there was so much interest in Adult Colouring Books - I thought I was a bit of a freak.....! My DH looked at me all a bit Hmm when I mentioned it to him. Any how, I went and bought the Animal Kingdom book, and this is what I've done so far. It's so relaxing! I can't wait to take it on holiday with me and do some more. I've also ordered the new one, Tropical Kingdom (I think that's what it's called...!)

Lovely picture Dollybird99, my DH thinks I'm a freak too Grin

ALovelyTrain that butterfly is absolutely gorgeous. I've been experimenting with a blending too.

I used a yellow to blend the petals and a white to blend the middle. It still needs a bit of work, but you get the idea.

Afternoon fellow colourers! Another day for me with not getting near mine. More lovely pictures. My goodness Lemon your blending is amazing! Did you say you're using the Staedtler Ergo pencils? If so I can't make mine do anything as creative as that! Lovely, fab butterflies. I really like the one at the very top which has just a hint of pink.
