Am going to order the Animal Magic book from Amazon. It looks like it would be nicer to do with markers for brighter colours. These are recommended in the Amazon reviews. Are they worth it?

Thanks!

I've been loving this. Bought a book off The Book People. Just finished a fox that was so relaxing. Really works for me

I will take pictures of my pencils tomorrow to keep you going Meerka

Although I think you should knock dry June on the head because that sounds no fun Grin

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 13/06/2015 08:48

ALovelyTrain I like your thinking!

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 13/06/2015 09:55

Can I join the thread please?! I have subscribed to art therapy magazine. The pencils aren't amazing so I'm using childhood ones until I can justify those beautiful ones up thread, but the pictures are lovely and although I first scoffed at 'helpful hints' I have actually learnt lots of ways to make my colouring better...

okay one suggestion was doing a darker colour (or pressing harder) all around the edges of some shapes to give a slight 3d effect and make bits 'pop' - I was amazed how much better it made my colouring look!

valrhona · 13/06/2015 10:15

I couldn't wait any longer for my books from amazon so I nipped in after work and bought a set of colouring in postcards.. Started my first one last night and two hours later.... I found myself soooooooo relaxed... Even better, dd came to sit wit me and we had a lovely chat as I coloured :) Then we watched The Notebook BlushGrin so quite a pleasant Friday night Smile

Am very impressed at lemons shading! I'm just a bog standard colourerererer at the mo! Keep posting the pics everyone. This thread is so chilled out it's fab Smile

MrsMcGregor · 13/06/2015 11:04

Reveal, I think someone posted a pic up thread where they had used darker shading around the edge of a leaf. It looked fab. I've been doing it with my flowers and it really does make a difference. Val, I'm a big standard coloureriner too but it's fun! I haven't got near mine for days but have an afternoon at the kitchen table planned for today!

Love this thread, great work on here. I am definitely in the amateur stakes , but loving it.
I've bought various bits and pieces over the last year or so, but only really started colouring in the last few weeks. It's so relaxing. Only problem is I keep looking up various pencils etc that I see mentioned here, and wanting them, all of them! Then I go to my local art supplies shop, and get lost in admiring all the stuff on offer. Blush
I got lovely crayola paintbrush pens, ages ago, and I love them, but one doesn't work, and when I went looking for another pack, I couldn't get them.
As others have said, this is an expensive thread, Grin but a lovely one.
...

Sallystyle · 13/06/2015 11:11

I use darker shades around leaves. It really does make a difference.

Waiting for Mr Postman! He will be here between 12-1.00pm

Not long now.

I don't use a table, I sit on the couch and do mine so I can watch TV at the same time.

Meerka · 13/06/2015 11:18

well dry Jan is hard work but definitely worth it for some of those amazing pencils! :)

love the hint about the darker edging around the leaf.

TheSultanofPing · 13/06/2015 12:41

I'm excited for you U2.
You really will be spoilt for choice Smile

TheTravellingLemon · 13/06/2015 13:07

Lovely pics everyone. I really enjoy looking at everyone's work.

reveal that's how I start each picture. I find the biggest bit and do dark colour round the edges. It makes me feel like I've made early progress and helps me work out the colour scheme and it does make the shapes pop too.

As predicted, my snail is thoroughly enjoyable to work on. I love him already. I'll post my progress later. Much more fun than the stupid impossible jar Smile

Sallystyle · 13/06/2015 13:47

They are here. But I am teasing myself so haven't opened them yet Grin

TheTravellingLemon · 13/06/2015 13:49

Open them! Open them!

OwlAtEase · 13/06/2015 13:55

Open them! Post a photo! I need to live vicariously through you! Grin

I'm such an idiot at times. I closed them without even thinking about putting them back correctly, so loads of pencils all over the floor.

The children are having fun trying to put them back in the right order though Grin
