Team Hooker, now with added pictures :)

Whilst on holiday recently, I finished a hat and started a blanket. The blanket will have at least 200 4" squares in the end so I have a little way to go!

What would you say is the best yarn for crochet.

I bought a job lot multi coloured DK for practise but, when I ready to make something lovely I wondered if real fibres are better and what thickness works for blankets etc? TIA

SoupDragon · 09/12/2014 14:10

Stylecraft Special DK is great for everyday blankets. It is acrylic but lovely and soft. I have found that it pills with use though. Other than that, it all depends on budget and what you are making!

The big Woolly Hugs blankets are made from Merino - the Drops Extra Fine Merino is really nice and a good price (I get mine from Wool Warehouse). In fact all the Drops yarn is great value for money.

SoupDragon · 09/12/2014 14:11

Thickness wise, DK or Aran for a blanket. I probably wouldn't go thicker than those.

Ooooo finally somewhere I can show off my work to people that appreciate the beauty of Crochet Grin.

I mostly make amigurumi, so have uploaded some old pictures. Am currently working on a handful of projects for Christmas (not panicking about the date - oh no not me Hmm). I'll upload pics when I have finished them if you promise to keep a secret Wink.

I've tried bigger projects. I was working on an openwork bag. was pretty but took too long and I gave up. I am currently working on a ripple scarf....even working in chunky wool with a large hook its only 30cm ish....I think I need to stick to the amigurumi.

EdwiniasRevenge · 09/12/2014 18:03

And a couple more...

Those are great, Edwina!

We need a photo, Miaow!

MissFenella · 09/12/2014 23:11

Thanks - will check out wool warehouse but perhaps after christmas...

champtastic · 11/12/2014 00:32

Edwina, I neeeeddddd a Mario. Great work. I'm crap at amigurumi.

I'm now working on a new comfort blankie for my autistic son. He has had one crocheted blankie after another - the last one was made by a very kind Mumsnetter when he was ill with cancer.

Now he's in remission and the new blankie will be made by Mummy.

Happy days :-)

It's lovely!

There is a great sense of satisfaction in finishing that first project - I still remember mine.

I finished my happypotamus last night - and I am really pleased that I didn't give in to the temptation to cut all the pieces into little shreds, when I was struggling to assemble him!

I can't wait to see dh's face when he unwraps him!

EdwiniasRevenge · 11/12/2014 12:07

I'm dead excited by my latest piece. I've actually used the luigi pattern and my own colours. Got pretty fed up of all the colour changes tho....

Can't decide whether to put a belt on him or not though...would have to be red yellow and blue and think I prefer as he is.

its a Christmas pressie for DP. Can you guess what he does?

(Another photo that won't twist the way you wantI to. Sorry).

These are all great!
Hippo is adorable. He has the look of Eeyore about hmm. Grin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/12/2014 15:49

He does, a bit, doesn't he! Looking at him, I think his name is Humph - which would suit an Eeyoreish personality!

I am at wreath-assembly point. My fingers are suffering from all the needle-jabs. Am worried it is looking a bit naff. Will post a pic later in the day when I've got a bit more done.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 20/12/2014 09:39

I am sewing in pesky ends on my mother's Christmas blanket and weeping!

I have two blank polystyrene wreaths and a packet of baubles and I've not got round to making either of them :(

KinkyDoritoWithJingleBellsOn · 20/12/2014 09:53

Next year, Soup. I keep trying to remember that this is a calming hobby that is not supposed to put any pressure on Grin.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 20/12/2014 09:58

one of the wreaths is from last year! :o

I have sewing-on-fiddly-bits-fatigue. Wreaths are a faff! It's starting to take shape now though so feeling a bit happier with it.
