Team Hooker, now with added pictures :)

Whilst on holiday recently, I finished a hat and started a blanket. The blanket will have at least 200 4" squares in the end so I have a little way to go!

Wow these are lovely!

I am very new to crochet but loving looking at other people's makes.

Gusthetheatrecat · 25/08/2014 18:19

I am still working on a blanket which I started last October. In fact, 'still working' is v misleading, since I haven't touched it in months and months. Do all you blanket makers keep going during the summer? I felt decidedly unblankety whilst the weather was hot, and I don't think it's a coincidence that I got my squares out again this week as the weather for cooler!
Anyway. A few of my blanket squares are on my blog here:
cornerbycorner.co.uk/2013/12/07/treble-by-treble/
(Along with a cardigan I made for good measure!) I have now made I reckon nearly 120 squares of a 180 square blanket. I need to do an audit though, as I keep finding bags with squares in all over the house!
I am torn between loving and loathing the process of blanket making. Part of me thinks NEVER AGAIN and another part thinks I should make a blanket for each of my three children, oh and one for my god daughter...

OwlCapone · 26/08/2014 10:08

I'm making a blanket of squares. By the time they're all done and sewn up it will be cold enough for a blanket. OK, so it's cold enough now. I think I've done about 90 of 200 for this summer's blanket.

I love the brooch, and the pattern for the hat is now in my queue Blush. I assume it is in US terms though which I find confusing..

I really want to make blankets, but I'm not sure I'm the right sort of person for it. I want one for snuggling under whilst watching a movie so wouldn't have to be massive but.... Grin

Just marking my place to come back on later and read properly/post photos!

I love all of your projects!

Lifesalemon · 26/08/2014 12:24

Just started a blanket but usually do bears. A much bigger project than what I'm used to so may be a while before its finished!

I have got slightly obsessed with crocheting big granny squares, in all the colours of dk acrylic I possess! Eventually I will crochet them together into a blanket for Woolly Hugs, to go to Yorkhill Hospital.

I've just finished a shawl using the South Bay Shawlette pattern.
I started it last year and then put it to one side. It's in Debbie Bliss Andes so is very warm and cosy.
I like the pattern so much I'm tempted to make another one in a lighter yarn.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/08/2014 23:05

That shawl is lovely, aJumpedUpPantryBoy - was it complicated and challenging? I'd love to do a shawl this year - and I happen to have some Debbie Bliss Andes - but I am a lace-knitting-novice (I can do feather and fan).

LEMmingaround · 28/08/2014 23:16

These are just stunning. I have a granny square the size of a cushion. Must pick it back up. These have inspired me. Dont see many giant blankets done as one granny square so am bit worried it will go wrong.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 28/08/2014 23:45

STDG it was easy. It's a free pattern from Lion, you can get it in Ravelry I think.
It's just two rows that are repeated and it's only trebles and chains, once you get into it you don't even need to look at the pattern.
It did take a shocking number of skeins to make, but then I did make it large as I wanted to be able to wrap myself up in it.

FolknNorah · 29/08/2014 08:41

My ripple cushion (one side finished ATM but I'm excited about it so here you go)
The toys are gorgeous, I use do some before the dc grow up Wink. I like making grannies (ok, so I've only tried one kind) but the joining them either as you go or afterwards puts me off Blush.
The shawl is gorgeous too, when do you wear them though? A smallish one instead of a scarf I could see me using but the big ones seem less practical. I'm not sure I'm up to wandering around the house in one just yet either Grin everyone thinks it's hilarious when they see me knit or crochet Hmm
I have projects in my head, a blanket (or several) a poncho with arms/arm holes and a fitted jacket type thing for dd. Am experimenting with the jacket ATM so we'll see.

Thank you for that, aJumpedUpPantryBoy - I will go and look for the pattern. I am wondering if I could do it in lace-weight - because I have 5 balls of DB laceweight in cobalt blue. I guess it would be more fiddly, but do-able.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 29/08/2014 12:18

STDG I think that would be entirely do-able. The first few rows might be tricky but then I'm sure it would be plain sailing.
I'm planning on making it in either lace weight or sock yarn next.

If you google the pattern there is a very useful chart to follow - i find that easier than written instructions.

Cobalt blue would be beautiful, do post a picture if you make it.

MehsMum · 29/08/2014 12:26

Aw, some lovely stuff! I'm trying to finish a blanket for my eldest at the moment. Here's one I made earlier: solid squares which are dead easy and a lot of fun.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 29/08/2014 15:01

Lovely blanket Meh

Norah, I wear it as a kind of giant scarf wrapped to the side so the point bit sits on a shoulder, and fasten it with a brooch so it stays put.
Mind you, I also wear it granny style, or granny style but bunched up so it's more scarfy.

MehsMum · 29/08/2014 19:47

Thanks, aJumpedUp Smile

Lifesalemon · 29/08/2014 22:12

I am so enjoying watching this thread and seeing everyone's beautiful creations. It makes such a nice change too that everyone is being so nice to each other. Think I'm gonna lurk here for a while and stay well away from the AIBU's Grin

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 30/08/2014 20:25

I've been crocheting snowflakes so I can make my Christmas cards.
I can't decide whether to put them on black card or onto a blue and purple salted silk painted background.

The ends are still there because I want to add some beads.

OwlMother · 30/08/2014 20:37

My baby ripple blanket, two weeks in. I am ridiculously proud of it. Ignore the balls of wool - I have to take the photo to help me remember the colour order I've planned.

Lifesalemon · 30/08/2014 21:04

Gorgeous owlmother

pantryboy those snowflakes are lovely. Have you ever starched any? I was thinking of making some and stiffening them to make tree decorations but not sure what to use for the stiffening.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 30/08/2014 21:18

I haven't starched any yet but I am planning on trying it.
I blocked them and they're holding thief shape nicely, I did think I could paint them with PVA to stiffen them as well
