How much have you stashed?

My stashes are getting very big. I'm trying to use up some of it but still feel the URGE to add to the woolly stash.

I've currently got two big plastic boxes full of fabric and an archive box bursting with yarn.

What is yours like? Do you see it as a problem or love it?

I have hideous amounts of stuff in the loft. Hideous. All in plastic boxes so safe, but just boxes of fabric and yarn. I could probably start my own stall. I don't know what to do with it. I get a great craft idea, buy all the materials and then run out of time or energy to even get started.

I have stopped buying materials now but I am no closer to using up all the fabric etc. I could list it on Ebay but it would take forever. Also in my fabric stash I have loads of beautiful designer fabrics but I have forgotten their names or the range so I only know it as "blue horse" when it is Heather Ross FarFar Away unicorn in Blue colourway, for example (horribly expensive and sold-out import from USA). Thats one I do know Grin but most I have not a clue and would have to list as "pink rose cotton"... urgh.

I have probably ten balls of kidsilk mohair that cost £8 a ball? That was for a baby blanket I haven't started and never will. For example.

Wish I could convert it all back into original money :(

Heyjudith, that sounds so sad. Your collection sounds wonderful. How about making donations to woolly hugs or local craft groups which might inspire you to get going with some of those projects.

Stitchthis · 04/09/2013 23:29

I started selling my stash but it creeps back. I gave loads away too. Then I started selling my old quilts off on etsy. I still have an office to full to use and a grumpy OH. I think I'll just keep it Wink

JollyHappyGiant · 05/09/2013 03:17

I so want to start hoarding fabric so I can take up quitting when I retire the DC are bigger.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/09/2013 10:43

Hands up all those who would like to get their hands on HeyJudith's stash. Though of course that wouldn't really solve the problem - it would merely move the stash to another location.

And if I buy or acquire any more yarn, dh is going to spontaneously combust!

goodjambadjar · 05/09/2013 11:54

me!me!me! it sounds amazing, especially the unicorn fabric! (how much do you want for it?)

goodjambadjar · 05/09/2013 11:56

Bloody phone! Angry

It's like a disease, collecting for your stash! I have a beautiful fabric that I can't bring myself to use. so I take it out of the box to look at it while sighing happily

SoupDragon · 05/09/2013 18:29

Judith, I would be happy to give your stash a new home. I simply do not have enough stuff of my own...

PukousMucous · 06/09/2013 14:44

My hand is up and wiggling, like in primary school when volunteering to be milk monitor.

HeyJudith it does sound fabulous. What are some of the projects waiting to begin?

trice · 06/09/2013 15:13

I did a bit of stash busting by making all the girls a twirly skirt from here which used up most of my cotton and pincord.

I have three cupboards full of yarn but it is mostly odds and ends. I have run out of one skein projects. I do have a jumpers worth of baa ram ewe Titus which I am looking forward choosing a pattern for.

DumSpiroSpero · 06/09/2013 15:34

2 plastic boxes and an archive box Shock !

1 x floor to ceiling built in cupboard in the dining room
3 x large boxes in the spare room
2 x holdalls of sewing, fabric, x stitch
2 x knitting bags

Assorted other bags/boxes in wardrobes.

That is both mine and DD's though. It drives DH mad, and the Sad. thing is I rarely have time to do anything with it.

MasterFlea · 06/09/2013 19:39

I've come to the conlclusion that my stash is meager and needs bulking up. Grin

Love that skirt trice.

I need a special cupboard wardrobe room for it. I think that's part of the problem with mine. It doesn't have its own place so is tucked away here and there. It needs a proper home.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 06/09/2013 21:34

Mines tucked away I. Various place too!

That works for me though, if it was all in one place DH would realise exactly how much I've gotGrin

My stash grew this week. After a good few weeks of desperately needed abstinence, some balls of merino wool seem to have made their way inBlush

It's hat making season, that's my excuse!

Isoscelesnorks · 07/09/2013 11:53

I have enough fabric and wool to start several small shops. My justification is pre disabled child being family bread winner chief cook and cleaner I did make almost all my own clothes (besides just a few vintage silk Laura Ashley numbers from eBay) I would hope one day to get back to this but since DH refuses to lift a finger around the house to help out their is not much chance in the near future so for now I am stock piling.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 07/09/2013 17:14

I think we need a stash swap - we could all meet up with bagfuls of fabric and yarn, and swap it, to go home with bagfuls of different yarn and fabric!

SoupDragon · 07/09/2013 20:22

but that would involve letting stash go! Shock

goodjambadjar · 08/09/2013 10:09

Oh dear. I might have bought a new pattern book for knitted toys after getting caught up by a blog. And I might have bought 20 balls of different coloured 100g acrylic Marriners wool off Amazon because it worked out at just a over £1 a ball. And some double pointed needles because I haven't got any.

I did. I did buy the book and the wool and the needles. only now wonders where the hell I'm going to put it

I blame it on the cute knitted penguin. Blush and Grin

LadyFace · 11/09/2013 21:14

I had to clear out my stash cupboard for the dcs toys. There are 229 balls! Dh nearly fainted!
